m_runner - thanks! you're post made me smile, lol =) I'll probably try and gain some more weight. ;) pinkflamengo - lol, it's nice to know someone else flat chested feels my pain! It only took me about a month and a half or more to gain around 13 pounds. I ate 2600-3000+ calories a day (which involved a LOT of peanut butter, haha) I did exercise lightly, but mainly stregnth training. It helped keep my appetite up and I gained muscle, so I'm glad I did it. =) Thanks for the advice! lala-Yep, I know that just because I have my period it doesn't mean I'm healthy. I was just wondering if I should gain more because I've never had a BMI higher than 18.5 in my life and I'm just a teenager so my doctor always told me I was "normal" (even though I stopped getting my period and was severely underweight! She said it was just "genetic." Yeah, right. The only reason my mom didn't get her period much was because she was underweight as well). Thank you, I think I'll take your advice. =) |

That actually sounds really good! I may just try it for breakfast (hopefully it'll win my love for peanut butter back. haha) |

Congrats you guys, you're doing so well! I'll def. try the pb and banana sammie, but maybe later. To be honest I am SO sick of peanut butter! I've been eating sooo much of it to gain weight. Almost to my first goal weight of 115 though. (I'm 5'6"). My highest ever was 112 at 5'5", so I'm kind of at a loss as to what weight I should get too...I've always been skinny and I'm (almost) 16 and small framed so do you think 115 would be okay? If I get my period? Of course I wouldn't be opposed to extra weight gain if it happened naturally... askewing, I can definetly relate to the mental thing. Sometimes I get really happy when my jeans are tight, but other times....ehhh. But I'm going shopping soon so I can get clothes that actually fit. =P I'm curious, where is your weight gain going (if that's not too personal, lol). I find most of mine is going to my tummy...haha. I mean it's definetly far from being big, but still... |

Hello, just posting to say I have the EXACT same stats as you. Well, a few weeks ago I did. I'm 15, 5'6", and was 105. Now I'm 108 and I already feel a lot better. I know what you mean about the stomach thing, but actually if you're consistantly eating 2600+ calories a day it will all even out. I still have a flat tummy. Good lucky to you =) |

Congrats on your weight gain!! I'm not quite sure exactly how much I've gained seeing as I just started two weeks ago and my weight is flectuating like crazy. According to the scale I was 110 then the next morning I was 105. So I'm not going to trust it for a while. But I'm pretty sure I've gained at least two pounds. I've been eating at least 2500 calories a day and am pretty close to getting 3000 consistantly. I'm doing weight training 3-4 times a week. I've already noticed a difference. I actually look better. I knew I needed to gain weight, but I was still a little apprehensive. Now I'm excited. And you know what? I think I'm actually growing again. I grew 1/4 of an inch since I last measured myself a month ago. Okay, so I'm not saying it's from eating more. But who knows? I just really hope my growth wasn't stunted from being underweight... Keep up the good work! |

Just posting to say that I have very similar stats to you. I'm 15 and 5'6" and was 100 at my lowest, and 103ish when I decided to gain weight. Now I'm around 107 and feel so much better already. I've even grown a quarter of an inch (not saying it's due to eating more, but who knows?)! You definetly should be eating more, seeing as you're probably still growing. At least 2000 calories, 2500+ if you want to gain (which I think is a good idea). Good luck to you! =) |

Yeah, it definetly is ironic... I was exactly the same way. I always ate a ton of junk food but was so much skinnier than almost everyone else my age. I even used to purposely eat things very high calorie just so I could think to myself "haha, I'm not going to gain weight from this!!" I think that's why I kinda freaked out when I actually started gaining weight (which I'm sure was normal-I was still very skinny). And that's what made me want to be "healthier." Sigh... haha, the chocolate shake was yummy! I added peanut butter :p |

Thank you! Good luck to you as well. =] That's exactly what I did. I started exercising just to be healthier. I can relate to the not wanting to eat more than anyone else as well, even though I should've considering my metabolism is pretty high. It's really nice to know that there are other people working towards the same goals as me. =) Well I'm off to have a chocolate shake, lol. |

Okay, thanks. There's nothing wrong with the two pounds, it just seemed a little too quick to be real and that's why I was asking. Also, I just thought my period would come back because 110 is how much I weighed when I got it. I really had no idea I would need to weigh so much more. Shows how much I know, lol. I was really just asking about cardio because of the stuff my friends and I do like go bike riding and stuff. I will cut down on that for sure. And about the eating disorder thing- I don't think I ever had one. I just starting eating more healthily and getting less calories because I thought it was "healthy" and I was doing something good for my body. I now know how bad that was. I really appreciate all the help. I'm new to this and I just want to make sure I'm going about this the right way. =) |

Woah. You have like, the same stats as me. I'm 15 and weighed 103 (I'm 5'6") when I started trying to gain weight because I haven't had my period in over a year (even though my doctor told me nothing's wrong, I thought I should do something). I recently started running, but I'm probably going to have to stop because of the whole weight gain thing. =( I'm also pretty worried about gaining in my stomach area. It's like, my favorite part of my body. But health comes first. I've been doing ab exercises so I'm still toned. They don't burn too many calories. I'm currently eating about 2500 calories a day. That would probably be a good place to start, and then try to up to around 3000. That's what I'm going for. Good luck!! |

I'm sure you know this, but there is really no upper limit for gaining as far as the calorie range goes. So please, don't beat yourself up about it. What's done is done. You should be eating more. I can relate. Sometimes after eating, even though I'm trying to gain, I feel slightly guilty. But I just push through it and remember that it's actually GOOD for me. And you say you're gaining weight fast? Remember, a lot of it could be water weight. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, I really don't know how to stop the binges. Even though most people would probably love to have to actually GAIN weight, they don't realize how hard it can be. I really wish you the best of luck =) |

Thanks for the help littlemalynda, rebelchick, and for_zev. =) I was pretty upset when I went to see the doctor, actually, because I was expecting answers and she just basically told me to not worry about it until I had kids and it was probably genetic because my mom's period is irregular. Yeah, okay, it is, but she never went more than a few months without it. 15 months is NOT normal, and I don't want to lose my bone density or my ability to have children. I get plenty of calcium, luckily, or else my bones would probably be in pretty bad shape... I've never had an ED but I've increased my calorie and fat intake a lot. And since I've just recently started to run, I guess I'm going to need a lot more. I really want to make the cross country team next year, but if running is really so bad for me I guess I should put it off for a while? |

I have the same problem, except I don't really miss mine...haha. It's been gone for over a year, and if I were to have it I don't think I'd know what to do, lol. =P jk. My doctor told me not to worry about it and nothing off came up in my blood tests, but I still think I should do something. She didn't even suggest gaining any weight, but I figure that's what I have to do to gain it back. Good luck to you! |

I'm underweight naturally too. I'm fifteen, almost sixteen. I'm 5'6" and my lowest was 100, my highest probably around 110 when I was more like 5'5". A year ago I just decided to eat healthier and didn't realize at first how much lower my calorie intake was. Before I knew it I lost weight along with my period, which was really irregular to begin with anyway. I didn't really know that I had to gain weight until a little while ago, but I've been doing pretty well. I'm at 105 and trying to get to at least 110, and from there I'll decide how much more I want to gain. Are you guys doing any strength training? I just joined a gym and recently started, and I love it! The days I do cardio I know I have to eat way more, which is hard. Basically what I do is eat A LOT of peanut butter. haha. Like my sandwiches for school have like 3 times more peanut butter than my friends. =D So do you guys have any yummy, semihealthy, high calorie recipes? One of my favorites is a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Make a normal peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and then put butter on both sides of it and grill it. Soo good. To make it even higher calorie, make the sandwich but make it like french toast. Crack an egg and mix it with milk and cinnamon if you like, and then put the sandwich in that and let it soak on both sides. Then grill it in butter, and you could even top it with maple syrup. =) |

Thanks for the responses, I think this board is really going to help me. =) I just have a few questions/concerns. First off, should I really stop exercising? I would really like to gain muscle weight as well, so would it be best to just do weight training? And do I really have to stop doing cardio? I know it burns calories, but it seems very unhealthy to just stop doing it. I've read multiple places that everyone should get some form of cardio. Is it really bad for underweight people to do cardio? It's not like I'm severely underweight, but I don't want to do anything that would get me hurt. We're going to the gym tomorrow for the first time and I don't want to do anything unsafe or harmful to my body. Secondly, and this isn't super important, but I'm worried about how my clothes will fit. I don't want to have to buy a lot of new clothes...so I was wondering how many pounds did you gain before you went up a size? Thanks for all the help and support. I'm excited but kinda scared to do this...but I should do it, right? |

Thank you, your post was very helpful! I got my period exactly two years ago. It wasn't very regular, and all of a sudden it just stopped about 14 months ago. I can now look back and realize that was about the time I started worrying about my weight. I just had some nuts and dry fruit. I'm pretty full so tomorrow I'll try and eat more throughout the day. Thanks so much again for your help, I really appreciate it! =) |
