| Motivation | I'm confused. What do I need to do to lose weight? | Aug 01 2009 01:39 (UTC) |

you sound a lot like me! I am also 5'4" and 127lb, but I've done quite a bit to get here from 132lb. (to make things even better, I also want to be 115lb. ha!) Anyway, it is a balance issue. You are already a healthy weight for your height, so losing weight is a bit more difficult. Don't "forget the scale" if you don't want to. Eat smaller portions, more fruits and veggies, and run an extra lap around the track, that's really all it takes. Be sure to eat all of your daily calories too! It also may help to eat your maintenance calories once a week so your metabolism doesn't slow down. I hope that helps some. c: |

If sizes confuse you, all is right in the world. Don't ask why, it's just how it is. If it makes you feel better, I wear 7/9 junior size and 4/6 misses size at 125lb. It doesn't make sense to me either. |

| Young Calorie Counters | What should I do about my delicious b-day cake? Help! | Jul 13 2009 01:32 (UTC) |

It's your birthday, so eat cake! Before you have your ONE slice (make it as big as you would like! Size doesn't matter, just as long it is a slice and not a quarter or a half or even a whole! It's your birthday cake for goodness' sake!), I would suggest having a tall glass of COLD water. Eat your cake. Feeling full? Good. Then stop. It's as simple as that. c: |

Original Post by aksnovak: everyone in my family is a little overweight ( except my dad who finds eating a sin. I'm not sure why. like I said before, I like to eat!), so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that overeating is eating right. but thank you for the advice. c: |

Original Post by mike61725: can i just say the easiest way to get off soda is when you're not dieting. When i was a kid I seriously drank three cans of mountain dew a day, but now that I am older I don't drink any soda. I wondered why... it was because i slowed to only drinking one a week (over the course of a year!) ad now i only have soda maybe once a month. but anyway, i love cyrstal light. while it probably isn't the best thing for you, it's sugar free and only has 5 calories per 8 oz glass. It's awesome when you have the craving for something sweet. |

| Foods | What are you doing for lunch today? | Jun 24 2009 22:16 (UTC) |

For lunch I had some romaine salad from a bag (which are at Walmart for like $3 a bag. expensive but seriously worth it!) about a tablespoon of fat free ceasar dressing and 4 oz of lean chicken breast. It's yummy and filling. I plan on having grapes later as well. If you're really feeling hungry add a roll into the mix. But be careful on what kind and size of roll! |

Sometimes I cook my eggs without the yolk. Just add a little salt and pepper. It sure is tasty. c: If you like the yolk, you can eat it. Sometimes it'll break into my egg whites and I happily eat it anyway. It has a ton of nutrience in it. Plus (sorry if I offend anyone on saying this) God made itand expected us to eat it, so it can't hurt us one bit. |

The best adivice I can think of for you is don't be afraid to say no. Whether it be to your parents or to yourself. Do you need that extra handful of preztels after lunch? You could also get up early in the morning and go running around the neighborhood for some extra exercise. I hope that helps some. =/ |

trust me, I am NOT starving myself. (most days I hit around 1400 calories.) and if my body wants to be heavier than I want to be, my body wins there. I am not a huge fan of counting calories day after day and when I actually hit my weight I am going to be pretty happy when it's time to maintain. c: |

I reward myself every five pounds (because I am lighter than you are and already in my healthy weight zone so it is harder to lose weight.) but at 120lb I am buying myself new shoes (that's twelve pounds lighter than the start). 125 I am thinking of buying new nail polish and a coloring book. Even if it's something little it definitely does help. c: |

we are not chatty at all! I was just thinking about out group not too long ago... I think we're getting quiet because it's summer now and many of us are probably busy. Which is true, I've only been home four days in the past two weeks. How is everyone doing? Having an awesome summer? I got down to 125.5 not too long ago, but I went to camp and it's super hard to eat healthy when everyone around you is stuffing their faces and there are just not that many options of food around! And it's getting close to TTOTM, so I am bloating a little. I hope everyone stays strong! Keep going~ |

If you're worried about it, pack a snack to eat during a break (you must have a few of those if you're working from 3 to 10!). Maybe a high protein granola bar or some grapes. Personally, I think it's best to keep eating to keep your matabolism going. |

thank you so much for the advice! I am a carb addict, but I have been doing better... I've spread out my three bowls of cereal throughout the day rather than all at once! hahaha. I'll try the oatmeal. I've never been a big fan of it because it always was just way mushy to me. But then again, I've never liked cold cereal until recently! Maybe my taste buds are changing, so I'll have to start experimenting with new foods. c: &rosieblue: it would not surprise me if it's the crunchiness that makes me happy, I love crunchy foods. |

School is out tomorrow!! I am so happy. Next week I will be away at a youth camp for my church so I won't be able to update. Sorry guys! Anyone have any extra tips on eating up at my camp? It's not really camping, we stay in dorms and have a huge cafeteria to eat it. It was a full fruit and salad bar (usually they do), but I am really worried about the meals they serve. I can stick to cereal in the mornings, but I am going to be wanting some good carbs. Summer Goals |

Sourapple: we should totally have a long post competition. Hahaha. sorry, that was the first thing that came to my head. c: Amanda: I used to babysit a lot, but not it's spratic. But I did have a week in there where I babysat for like three or four nights (I have no social life!) straight. It's good money, so I won't stop, plus I love the kids. I did, while I was on weight watchers, pack a cut up apple and some pretzels in a baggy to munch on and that did seem to help a lot (but certainly didn't stop me from breaking into their candy. hahah. every once in a while it's alright to have a little bit. c:) Bee: I am trying to get back on my exercising. I certainly will once school gets out in a few days. I normally jog on the elpitical for about a half and hour and then walk for about 10 minutes on the treadmill to cool down. And mornings and nights I will do lunges and sit-ups and other little excerises like that. I normally go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week, but in the summer, I might end up going everyday but Sunday (I'm a Christian, and totally believe in resting the 7th day. Rock on). Everyone else who has a scale in their parent's rooms: It's so weird isn't it? ugggh. |

Amanda, you definitly not a tyrant! You're totally fine. My best weigh in days are Fridays or Saturdays. I prefer Saturdays because it's easy to roll out of bed and go weigh myself since no one else is up and around by the time I actually get up! hahah. My scale is in my parent's bathroom, so I hate walking in their room when they are in there. It's just so... weird. My statsss are Current weight: I just weighed in at 130, but that's with clothes on and I am kind of *bloating* stupid period. My last acuate weigh in read 127.5, so I'm sticking with that. Bust: I'm not entirely sure... I think I'm at like 35 or 36 inches. Skinny waist: about 26 inches Waist: 29.5 inches (yes, I must include the .5. I have been a 30inched waist girl for too long! this is measured at my belly button) Lovely handles: 35 inches. (it's all downhill from here) Hips:39 inches Thigh: 23 inches around at fullest point. Goal weight: Here I put in 110, which I would love to be! But I probably will only get around 112-115. But my ultimate goal is 110. My struggles are when I go babysitting and the parents say, "Oh, eat whatever you like, but be sure to have (insert yummy food item here)" It totally sucks because after you put the kid to bed and just want to eat. I love carbs like pretzels, white bread, desserts like cheesecake and frozen treats like ice cream... I just seem to always love high calorie, high fat things. Which totally sucks when you're trying to lose weight. (Don't get me wrong... I love fruits and veggies too. I just like not good for you food more. Like, put me in a room with twenty of my good friends and say we're throwing a party. I would touch the chips before I would touch to fruit platter, on a regualr basis. Now that I am trying to lose weight I would go for the fruit platter first.) Bee, I have friends that could care less about what they eat too. When you hang out with them just tell yourself to eat less. Order smaller portions, and don't be afraid to leave food on your plate! The best advice I ever got was when someone said "mentally cut your meal in half. When you get to the half way point, ask yourself if you feel full. Drink some more water if you don't and ask yourself again about 5 minutes later. If you are, stop eating." or something like that. I hope that helps! and wow! that was a huuugggee post!

you a totally not fat! because if you are, then I am. I am the same age, and about an inch shorter than you, and I have about the same shape as you, probably about the same size even. Gotta love those love handles and nice thighs. Cutting back a little (not a lot!!!) should help shed your unwanted pounds though. At 5'4" you probably shouldn't go much less than 107lbs. It'll take patience and time but being a teenage sucks. I have my days where I'll say "Oh my goooosshhhh... my butt is huge." (I probably sound like that too. hahah) It's just all in the process of growing up. When we're older there will be a lot more people who will be larger than we are. The healthy BMI rates go up as we get older (I think...?) Just try to love yourself the way you are. It sucks, but we all go through it. c: |

I know, I know that weigh in day is Thursdays, but Saturdays are just a whole lot eaier for me. I am a student and Thursdays are crazy! I hope it's okay for me to be way late on updating...! Any who, I did weigh in yesterday and I am thirlled to say I am down to 128lbs! (wooohoo, c:) I do expect some of that to be water weight since I weighed in before eating breakfast or drinking any water. my measurments are still about the same... (my first measurments I sent in were estimants. I hate measuring too much and sometimes I just flat out forget my numbers. How on earth do you do that?) bust: 34in(please don't get too much smaller!!) skinny waist: 26in actual waist(about your belly button): 30in love handles area: 35in hips: 39in thiegh: 23in around (which I totally haattteeee. I wish my theighs would be smaller... but hey, this is why I am doing this, isn't it?) |

like suggested, whenever I crave sugar I eat fruit! It's tasty and full of fiber and other good nutrients that help keep you full. My favorite right now is cantalope. c: you could make a parfait with some berries and yogurt and even a little granola (check what kind of granola you're getting first!). I also find no harm in 100 calorie snack packs. They have the right portion of cookies for you to eat. Just remember, you can only eat one. They ARE a 100 calories afterall. My mom and I both love Hungry Girl. She put out a cookbook full of lower calorie alternatives for fast food and a bunch of new recipies that have a ton of nutrients in them. At least half of it is sweet deserts! One of our favorites out of it are pumpkin chocolate muffins. They're only about 100 caloires a muffin (I think. I might want to check that... later). She even has a chapter on what to do when you eat out a certain kinds of resteraunts. Check out her website for even more good healthy eating ideas. I also love skinny cow ice cream! They have all sorts of yummy low-calorie ice cream treats. It's normally found near the popsicles in your frozen foods ailse. I also love the frozen fruit popsicles (I think they're put out by Dryers?), they are also way low in calories and super yummy. And if all else fails, you CAN have a chocolate bar or a real cookie, but in moderation! I allow myself to indulge in a cookies and creme bar once every two weeks. They are simple too good to give up, and it's totally okay to have one every once in a while. Just eat it slowly and enjoy. (I also have a huge sweet tooth, can you tell? haha. good luck!) |

Original Post by kupre: I am also, really similar to your measurements, except my waist is a -gasp!- 30 in, and my bust is a bit bigger... and I weigh 132 instead of 130. but I have to say, it's a good start! You have to kknow where you are to improve.. yes? even if you weigh yourself once a week and feel awful about it, there is no way you can improve. |

Gerbersmirf, I agree with hot_fudge on the undereastimating calories. I was shocked to find out what I really was eating. While I definitely wasn't overconsuming, I was doing a good job maintaining! I love boca burgers as well, and if you chop them up they go great in salads for a good healthy lunch, just don't get carried away on the dressing! I wouldn't get carried away with the peanut butter or other high-calorie foods like it. It is great to have in moderation. But when I am hungry, I always think "what fruit or vegetable should I eat?" because they are low in calories, high in fiber, and just way good for you. Low calories=you get to eat more!! That is my problem with dieting; I love to eat! Another thing I've heard is eating more in the morning (things like peanut butter on toast or an apple) will curb food cravings later in the day. I normally eat 200-350 calories for breakfast. I hope that helps. |
