WOO HOO GO ME!!!!! Yesterday I did 2.25 miles in 33 min! I am so happy I found a routine that works!!!!

Good job on the running!  I started jogging 3 weeks ago.  we are both moving at about the same pace.  We won't qualify for the Boston Marathon just yet, but it's still a big accomplishment.

Everyone off to a good start?  I've had 2 good days.

My focus this month is on being positive and feeling good about what i do.  I read an article about how everyone hits what they focus on.  Whether it's throwing a baseball, shooting an arrow, or getting healthy.  If you spend most of your time thinking about failures and disappointments, you increase those events.  If you think about successes and positive experiences, more of those will occur.

Hurray, this is the week I went from obese to overweight.  Celebrated by getting some running shoes and jogging 2 miles.  I love jogging and I've finally lost enough weight so I can train safely.  Signed up to run a half marathon in Memphis with my 23 year old daughter on December 5.  Time to start training!

Yes it is possible to lose weight with a walking program.  I've been successful in losing weight and my only regular exercise is walking.

tbachi9, I love the idea of stacking up cans that equal your weight loss so you can see each day how far you've come.  I might go with bricks because I'm cheap but it sounds like a great daily reminder.

I'm in for another month.  This is the month I go from obese to overweight.  I already feel alot better from the weight I've lost.  Another 50 pounds and I'll probably just walk around laughing all the time (until they throw a net over me and haul me away)  Glad to see so many enthusiastic folks on board for September.

I think the days of losing 5 pounds a week are over me, but so is wearing size 48 pants.  The last half definitely comes off slower than the first half.  No worries.  Time to focus on the exercise and the eating routine for the long term.  Congratulations to so many of you who are posting successes.  Very motivating!

Hurt my knee so I was only doing light walking this month.  I think my big drop at the beginning of the month was mostly muscle.  Still, I'm really happy with the month.  I had to give away my clothes and buy thrift store clothes.  The knee is good now and I'm looking forward to a big month next month.  Happy Birthday Kelly.  Glad to see you back Oarsman!  Congrats to everybody for another month of focusing on getting/maintaining a healthy level of body fat.

The first paragraph of your statement makes no sense at all to me. People from different cities, great families, and something about college??? What the heck are you talking about???

Yeah, I reread it four times and I still am trying to figure out what s/he meant.

I think they are  pointing out that the advertisement can tell where you are located (from your computer's IP address).  From that, you get a sales pitch about a person in the same area.  The pitch is the same but the location of the person and other specifics are changed to match your location.

It doesn't necessarily make the seller dishonest.  However, someone selling weight loss solutions that involve anything other than healthy food in appropriate quantities and a regular exercise routine should be suspect.

Foods Nuts: too much or not at all? Jul 19 2009

I have the same problem with cashews.  I can't keep a pound of salted cashews around for more than 2 days.  I solved the problem by buying unsalted almonds.  I weigh one ounce servings and put each serving in a seperate zip bag.  I can then take out one or two bags each day, depending on what's on the day's menu plan.

The unsalted almonds are a great replacement for chips at lunch time and have allowed me to replace unhealthy fat in my diet.  However, I don't like them enough that they are a binging threat!

Switching to an unsalted nut that is okay but not irresistable might be a solution for you.

Weight Loss My new diet Jul 12 2009
22:51 (UTC)

Congratulations on your new life.  I started at around 290 pounds and I was eating around 2300 calories a day back then.  I was losing weight steadily and I wasn't haven't much trouble with getting hungry.  I'm not suggesting you eat 2300 calories, I'm just saying you should figure out what a 500 calorie deficit is, and then develop a routine that works for you, based on that goal.

If your going to go any higher (and there is no reason you should), at least wait until you've got a routine established.  As your weight drops, you want to go back to edit your settings, look at the calorie section, push the "advice" button and recompute your daily calorie numbers to match your new weight.

Don't be afraid to try different ways of eating to figure out what works for you.  I never believed in the importance of protein, but after a couple months I tried adding some protein to my all carb breakfast and wow what a difference in how long it took before I got hungry again.

Also, don't be afraid to post questions and spend time searching the archives for things you're wondering about.  This site is full of ideas and information and people that want to help you.

How's my diet?  It's great.  I'm down 47 pounds and I'm eating healthy and getting lots of exercise.  I get compliments almost everyday.  You will too.

Best of Luck!

Thanks for noticing Kelly!

Having a lot of weight to lose probably helps.  The tools, advice and support at CC have made a big difference.  The lesson that's finally gotten through my thick head is that it's not about dieting, it's about eating right and exercising.

Vegetarian Getting enough dietary fat Jul 01 2009
00:42 (UTC)

I needed to increase my dietary fat so I replaced my 140 calorie bag of chips for lunch with 1 ounce (170 calories) of unsalted almonds.  They are delicious and for some reason I go ALOT longer without getting hungry now that I'm eating those nuts every day for lunch.
