| Weight Loss | Taking a break? | Jul 20 2009 15:42 (UTC) |

Congratulations on your weight loss! I am now just getting back into my "counting calories" after my little break I took for a month. It was very hard for me to find my maintenance calories I put back on about 5lbs, but am still very happy with the way I look. I was feeling the same way, very run down and beat. I found since Ive been eating alot more that I feel more energized and that Im able to finally meet my goal. Plus I hit a huge plateau so I think restarting the metabolism should help with that too. It felt nice to be able to eat alot more (haha) Good luck :) By the way, find out what your BMR is, and try to figure out your maintenance from there, I find CC always tells you to eat more than you should!! |

Its like you took the words and feelings right out of me on this one. Ive been the same exact way lately, and I dont know how to stop myself. I put on 3 lbs in 2 weeks, I feel like crap, I feel like I look like crap, but Im still not stopping ??? all you can really do is think that tomorrow is a new day and try your best to eat the healthiest, and attempt any exercise possible. If you have time, go out for a walk instead of eating something bad for you, it takes your mind off it and you feel alot better good luck, im in the same situation, I should listen to my own advice (haha) |

I have the same problem everyday Im the same stats as you 20, 5"3 just hit my goal a while ago at 120lbs and now I vary from 117-121 everyother day. Salt intake makes a huge difference, also if you lift weights sometimes water retention could be a problem because the muscle holds onto the water to repair the muscle etc!! I eat 2000-2200 calories a day now (trying to maintain) and I have an even bigger fluctuation. I wouldnt stress it... start weighing your self once a week at the same on the same day... that way you actually see the progress your making keep up the good work :) |

Thanks guys, took long enough, but I'd rather do it slow and steady that way it stays off longer. As for the calories, Ive been eating around 1800 - 2000 the last 5 days and have gained 1 1.5 lbs. (so now im up to 120) It could possibly be that my body may need to just get used to consuming a little bit more then im used to? water weight, or even water weight due to the fact that I'm lifting a little bit of heavier weights so I know that water can sit there to try and repair the muscle. Anyways, I'm hoping that I dont start to see this weight gain lol, hopefully I stay active enough to control it. I'm cutting back on my intense cardio workouts, and going to focus more on weights so at least now if I gain some weight, but dont notice a change in clothes its just muscle =) Congratulations to you girlygirl81 for making it :) it's an awesome feeling, and when you finally come to terms of being happy with the way you look, you feel even better (took me 1 1/2 months at being where im at to finally come to realize that I should just be happy lol)

Lol, i couldnt help but laugh at the "i wont end up looking like the hulk" made me laugh. I dont think its going to make you look like the hulk, just make you look slimmer and make you feel better. I think if you feel good, and you arent tired that its good that your splitting it up in 2 sessions. 1500 calories is okay, depends what you burn at the gym and what your BMR is. You dont want to drop it to much because THAT will do you no good (i just had to recently up my calories because i wasnt feeling okay) Anyways, its good that you have that kind of motivation, and I'm going to agree with booster1, if you DO have that much energy, its always better to lose it the natural way, plus it will make you feel so much better once you reach the weight you want to be good luck :) |

| Fitness | Advice for toning and losing a bit of weight-how much cardio and weights a week? | May 08 2009 21:20 (UTC) |

I'm pretty close to your stats. 5"3, 120lbs, 20 yrs old I do Cardio everyday (6days a week, sundays are my rest days) with weights everyother day (upper body) Days I do weights, I start with just a simple 20 minute warm up, then do weights for about 30-45 minutes, then about 10-20 more minutes of cardio (running, incline walk etc) then work on my "target area" usually abs for about 10 minutes. Cardio days, basically an hour of cardio burning about 600 calories each session (20 minute walk, 10 minute run, 30 minute eliptical. I like to change it all the time though) then leg work outs (i.e. thigh machine, ham machine, leg press) that way my upper body has a "day" rest inbetween lifting again. I've been losing weight, stubborn lower belly is bugging me still though, it never seems to disappear and you cant spot reduce. :( So basically (from my experiance) I only take one day off a week, all of them involve cardio, obviously cardio days are pure cardio and weight days are just basic cardio. So personally I think what your doing is kinda what Im doing, it works, Im going on month 5 and have lost 16lbs (with a huge plateau (because of over eating junk)) Just make sure with the weights that you change up your routine every couple of weeks, or add more weight. anyways hope that helped a little good luck :)

I have the same stupid problem, sometimes I'm happy and I actually think I'm getting somewhere with this. Other days it just seems like its getting worse? Maybe it depends how much salt we eat the day before, it's possibly water weight. Still very frustrating though. |

Interval training. Meaning walking at a steady pase for a mintue, run for a mintue, walk for a minute run for a minute (anything that speeds up your heart rate then lowers it then speeds it up again) best known for fat loss, the higher your heart rate the more fat you lose (so people have said) I usually do walking in intervals on an incline i.e. walk 5 minutes 3.5 walk 2 minutes 4.0 walk 5 minutes 4.5 then back down and up again not going under 4.0 for about 30 minutes. its hard but its been helping. |

| Weight Loss | Fibre/Carbs/Protein, I`m a bit confused as to HOW much? | May 06 2009 00:16 (UTC) |

No I've never heard of that diet. I just kinda eat whatever that evens out to around 1200 calories a day (because I usually do random snacking and I always go over anyways) Ive been trying to add more fat, less carbs. I do think I have a slow metabolism, I try to eat often, and lift weights everyother day to boost it. And I'm wondering if I may or may not have a thyroid problem, its been brought up before, Ive just never gone to get it checked, I probably should Thanks for the tips =) |

| Weight Loss | Trying to figure this out, am I doing it right? | May 04 2009 21:18 (UTC) |

Ok, just to clear this up. When I had figurd out what I ate yesterday someone calculated it and it was under, so I was just trying to figure out how to eat MORE!!! not less. 1200-1300 is simply just a guidline since I snack on random things throughout the day, so in all reality I probably eat close to 1500 calories a day. Im not trying to lose that much more weight, Im trying to add more protein in my diet because Ive been concentrating more on weights lately. I`m trying to figure out if im getting enough of everything I need. I DO NOT plan on doing this on a daily basis, I was just really curious as to what exactly I was eating. Knowing that I dont have enough fat in today, Im adding extra calories through olive oil etc. No I dont use the food log, I found a website where I type in the grams I want to use and it gives me the calories, its pretty easy to use!!

Someone had brought up the grams of fat/fibre/protein/ carbs I eat a day. I was curious so I calculated how much of everything was in the food I was eating, so being extra curious I did a complete breakdown (it was nice out so i sat outside with extra time, i know pathetic) anyways, for 1g of carbs = 4 calories, 1g of protein = 4 calories and 1g fat = 9 calories. Being super extra curious I calculated how many calories I would be eating today and it added up to a little over 1300 calories. BUT when I look up the actual amount of calories that I ate (on paper) it was 1200, so I was just wondering which one is more accurate. I DO NOT plan on doing this everyday, it was simply out of curiosity since I thought I was eating enough, but really I was eating under. |

AH, really? I always feel like I go OVER my 1200 calories a day (because i usually do grab some peanuts on my way out) I should probably stop off at a bulk food store and pick up some almonds, I hear those are one of the best for good fats. I do plan on upping the fat intake (it was a quick estimate) but today Im going to use some olive oil instead of water to cook, or add to my pasta :) Maybe this is why Ive been feeling `blah`lately. I felt as though I was eating alot, but maybe I need to add more to my diet. Im super scared of gaining weight back though! anyways, thanks alot of helping out, made things much more clear for me :) |

Last night I took the time to figure out the amount of protein/carbs/protein/fats I ate a rough estimate of 36.1g - Fibre, 168.8g Carbs, 68.9g - Protein, 20-25g Fat So I do get enough fibre (never thought it was THAT much though) :S eek! I drink a green tea every morning, and usually 1-3 teas throughout the day. I hate water, so Ill add some lemon and heat up the water so its warm (feel like it surpresses my appetite sometimes as well) So I usually drink warm beverages. I have taken your advice on previous replys about adding more fats. I`ve been trying to use a little bit of olive oil. I did put avocado in my salald yesterday, and also took your advice to eat 3 larger meals and 3 smaller snacks (never thought I could do it because I like eating every hour) but it was actually better, I felt LESS hungry with larger meals and 3 snacks. Geeze your always to the rescue :) thanks alot for everything!!! Maybe I could use your help with how many calories I should eat a day (I`m thinking of upping, but scared of losing weight and have no idea what my real deficit is?) Anywho, thanks again, I`m going to lay off those pills for now, the 2 I took yesterday morning didnt make me feel so good. |

Quick question though. So I just used your calculations, and it says I burn about 1686 calories per day (which seems a little low since I`m at the gym about 6 days a week doing cardio and weights) Is that possibly because I hit a plateau for a month or 2 ? I started out at 135, down to 120 and have been dieting for about 108 days roughly. |

I'm not 100% if I get enough fibre. I eat oatmeal in the morning, I eat at least 2 apples a day (sometimes 1 or 2 more) I eat a banana once and a while. Ive been eating kidney beans everyday (about 1/4 of a cup per meal) Im not huge on the nuts. The only thing I eat sometimes is a tbsn or half a tbsn of peanutbutter. I usually eat 100g of broccoli a day (sometimes less sometimes more). I drink about 8-10 glasses of water a day. And I'm usually constipated. Some days I'm fine, some days Im not at all. These are all natural pills, and they do have Psyllium in them. I eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day for sure though. Ahh, I took to this morning and then came on here to see if people had responded. I don`t think I`m going to take the afternoon pills. Maybe I`ll wait on it and calculate how much fibre I get a day. Thanks guys!! |

| Weight Loss | My experiences with using a scale to weigh food after estimating | May 03 2009 03:32 (UTC) |

I started weighing all my food about 2 months ago. I found cereal was pretty accurate like you had mentioned, sometimes even a little more then what I though. Peanut butter, geeze I was going WAY over. I couldnt believe how little of an amount you get with 15g. Veggies, I found I was under estimating alot. Like a cup of zucchini I was about 1/2 off to 1/4 off. Its pretty crazy what you think is the amount, and what the ACTUAL amount is. Thank God for my scale, I have no idea where I would be without it now haha!! I cant go anywhere without that thing, and I weigh absolutly everything Oh and again like posted earlier, I also found that fruit is considered "large" which kinda sucks because I always thought mine were either small or medium"ish" |

| Foods | I can't control my junk food eating lately! | May 03 2009 03:18 (UTC) |

Hm, Ive done that a couple times. Then I feel completely guilty. You just have to think about what you want more. Sure you get to enjoy those types of food for the few minutes that you eat them, and then what? you spend days and days trying to get back what you lost for those silly 5 minutes that it took to eat the ice cream, or the few seconds that it took to eat the cookie. so what do you want more? The satisfaction for those few minutes enjoying the cookie, or ice cream? or the 24 hours of everyday knowing that you have will power and a smaller belly that you actually worked hard for. Just have to think about what you really want, and find the will power to just say NO!!! It's worked for me :) I've worked way to hard the last 4 months to give up a few lbs for pointless calories and junk. It's not benifiting you in anyway to put that food in your mouth. Instead of eating a cookie, eat an apple. 100% the apple has less calories, and WAY more benifits to your health, and it takes alot longer to eat, and will actually make you more full then the cookie!!! |

thanks so much for the responses guys!! I'm really worried, I went to his house today to see if he was there so we could talk because I feel really bad but he wasnt so I wrote him a note saying I just came to get my mail and wanted to tell you that I love you, hopefully that puts a smile on his face. as of right now, I know for the last few months hes been really dizzy, hasnt been able to taste much, and walks funny because his leg or his foot is numb, and he also complains about his back hurting. I just hope hes going to be okay, I feel like a horrible daughter :( |

I do believe it has protein. Its pasta for people who are trying to eat healthy. Its a white pasta with "whole grain" additives or something along the lines of that, so they added all the good stuff to the "white" pasta including iron, and more fibre and protein I believe :) |

Im 5"3 and 120, kinda close But instead of just "walking" try messing with the speeds walk 3.5 - 5 minutes walk 4.0 - 5 minutes walk 4.5 - 5 minutes then back down and up again. once you get back down, sprint for 1 minute then do it alllll over again for as long as you can.
i wouldnt work to hard on cardio though because you seem pretty small already, and your body is probably just at its resting weight. meaning it doesnt want to lose any more!!!!

What are your stats? and try doing more intense cardio and weights if its only a 40 minutes workout everyday. try everyother day intense weight training with 20 minutes simple cardio, and the days you dont do weights just do 40 minutes of intense cardio. |
