I'm actually not a really huge fan of her facial features (though she has a pretty smile), but I think her body is gorgeous. |

| First of all, congratulations on your 100 pound weight loss! That's absolutely amazing.
Secondly, I realize that the 'hanging' skin is gross (though I'm more petite, I have the same problem). I think your weight loss is at a good rate (5-6 pounds a month)! Eventually you will tone up some, but realize that because you've lost so much weight you will probably have to get corrective surgery to get rid of it all (especially if you've had a child). I try to work on my core, and that makes it better- but of course it's never perfect! If I were you, I'd be more focused on my weight goal than my stomach. I realize it's annoying to the bone, but it will get better with time if you try to work on it! |

| Weight Loss | starvation mode, help! | Jul 14 2009 19:37 (UTC) |

| First of all, I just wanted to warn you that eating 700-800 calories is not TOO healthy, in fact, it is in no way, shape, or form healthy at all! If I were you, I would see a doctor.
However if you cannot see a doctor for whatever reason, try laying off the exercise if you can, and eat at your normal maintenance level. If you absolutely insist on exercising, eat back whatever you have burned. Let me warn you that, at first, you will indeed gain some weight (not a giant, significant amount... but still, some). This is because your body is used to burning less calories than it was before for the same tasks. This will run it's course and then you can get back on your weight-loss track. There's no way we can really predict the time for you, because we are not doctors, we can only advise you on the methods to getting out of it. We don't know your body and cannot tell you when are out of starvation mode. After two weeks of maintaining (like, full on, actually trying to maintain) you may try something like lowering your calories for a week or two (never dip below 1200) and seeing if there are any results. I realize this is frustrating, but remember that in the long run you will be thankful for it. It will be better for you to get yourself out of starvation mode so you don't balloon up and gain it all back when you try to maintain your newly lost weight. Also 10 pounds in 3 months is still close to 1 pound week; it seems like a reasonable number to me! The way you have done it, however, does not seem that reasonable. |

| Fasting just to lose weight is a horrible, horrible idea! You're taking away vital nutrients that your body needs and will be damaging your metabolism! The last thing you want to do if you ever want to lose weight is hurt your metabolism. Also, your body can fluctuate in weight on an hourly basis just off what you have had to eat or drink, but eventually it will come back off (because you use the bathroom). Starving can also lead to more muscle loss than fat loss - which in turn will only make you look less fit! No matter how badly you want to lose weight never starve yourself to lose weight, you're just creating more of a problem! I think if 1-2 pounds is a lot to you (enough to make you cry from going from 108.7 to 109 pounds), you need to see a doctor! Honestly, no one notices (they simply cannot) that you've gained or lost 0.3 pounds because it is such a small number compared to your body weight. It would be like noticing someone grew 5 new hairs in their head- it's just not possible. You didn't even notice yourself until you stepped on the scale! If you're THAT concerned about a fraction of a pound, you need to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY. You're going to end up hurting your body for something no one can even see! You need help. Please, please, please see a doctor and explain to them what you're going through! Do not starve yourself, you're not helping yourself, your health, your body, or even your weight! |

| Maybe it feels to him that you're the serious type. If I was "out there" like I usually am at the party scene, I don't think you'd be the person I'd be partying with. You seem really nice and caring (especially with your faith and all), so I think you're more of a friend I'd trust and hang out with casually at the mall than get dressed up and party like I'm about to die with.
If he doesn't say hi to you, that's just plain rude rude. But I mean if he doesn't strike up an entire "deep" conversation while he's at a party - that doesn't really seem abnormal to me. I don't really think "deep" when I'm just goofing around, and if some guy was trying to get me to have a sit-down talk like we normally would late at night, I'd probably pee myself laughing (not literally). All I'm saying is, sometimes it's time to be serious and lovey-dovey and other times it's like time to goof off and have fun. That's the way it is in those kinds of relationships. It sounds to me like you need a SERIOUS attached relationship; I mean if you want your guy to be on your case all the time and do whatever you want you'll need one anyways. If you're not looking for a part-time boyfriend, don't part-time date one! |

Wow I didn't realize so many of you would reply! This is so fun to read; I love going through these! :) :)
I just wanted to add that most recently I spent some time moving and went off my diet. While I didn't lose any weight, I didn't gain any either... which made me happy and surprised! I can continue right on my path without having to re-lose the same weight yay! :D |

Wow I could not be any closer to your situation!! I'm 18-years-old, 5'7, and I currently weigh 152 (though I weighed 161-162 when I first started). I recently had to put my diet on a hold because I was moving (for college). Luckily I held my weight because though I ate weird things while moving (like fast food, frozen things) I tried to mix in some vegetables and tried not to overindulge!
I have the same problems because all of my friends are stick thin and don't need excercise (they're all size 00-4)!! On top of that they complain about cellulite but they're thighs don't even touch when they're standing straight lol! I even have a friend who is 5'9 and weighs around 120ish who complains that her tummy sticks out when she wears shirts that fit right LOL.
I just want to be healthier, happier, and be able to excercise without dying in the first 5 minutes haha! :) My goal is also to be 130ish too!! |

| Weight Loss | Deficit: how much is too much? | May 31 2009 23:32 (UTC) |

Your calorie deficit should be no more than 1000 calories per day. (1000 kcal per day = 2 lbs loss per week) There's also absolute minimum amounts of calories you should eat every day, so pay attention to that too. :) Usually the best working deficit for me is 500 calories/day which is 1 lb a week. |

| Weight Loss | Ate above calorie requirement and still lost weight? | May 30 2009 16:31 (UTC) |

Daily weight loss and weight gain do not directly correlate with how much you ate that day. Just because you at 4000 calories today doesn't mean you'll be 1.25 lbs heavier right away; you may weigh 5 lbs more or 2 lbs less it's not a direct correlation every time. I only check my weight progress 1-2x a week; all of my weekly process usually adds up at the end of the week. There are many other variables to add in than just what you ate that day for a daily weight explanation. |

| Weight Loss | Im so confused!! Advice Please? | May 28 2009 01:42 (UTC) |

I try to aim for 1300-1500 calories and I don't work out literally at all. I still lose around 1-1.5 lbs a week and I weigh 150 lbs so I obviously burn less calories there too (because I weigh less so you burn more daily)! If you're really going work out that much 1600-1700 is probably a lot more of a reasonable range for you. Just try different amounts of calories a day varying 100-200 off one another for 1-2 weeks and see what you get. I seriously think 1200 is too low for you (it's even too low for me). |

This is stupid. There's no way you should be doing this for weight loss or making your body 'stronger'. What evidence or data collected shows this is good for you? All of the data I've seen on this shows all negative effects.

If it makes you feel any better, rounder and bigger butts are generally acknowledged to be more attractive than flat butts!! You should be happy you don't have a tummy or big arms and it goes to an area appreciated to be bigger. |

I got a full ride so I have to get at least B's in all of my classes. I have mostly A's so I'm not that scared except for English because right now I have an 86 so I need like at least a C on this final but my English teacher has the most intense finals. Also my college will be the same way in terms of grades (in quarters). |

You can incorporate foods you love as a side dish or eat them in a small portion for lunch. Just makes sure to eat lot of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats to keep full that always helps too. If you're stuffed it's easier to control your cravings than when you're really hungry, obviously. You don't have to go hungry to be healthy! I'm sure all of us share the LOVE for food, but you have to remember that you're doing this for yourself. I know a lot of people have a hard time with moderation, and if you're one of them (I know I am) just don't bring unhealthy foods into the house. If you REALLY REALLY want something buy a smaller portion of it. I also really love chips so now I buy the Ruffles Baked! sour cream and cheddar chips and I can eat 10 for 120 calories (and they're big chips so it fills an entire bowl). I eat them AFTER I eat the rest of my lunch so I'm basically really close to full by the time I get to them. |

As far as pasta goes, you can have a portion of whole wheat or just regular pasta for around 150-200 calories. Sometimes I add 1-2 slices of cheese slices and 2 tablespoons of milk to make a 300 calorie macaroni and cheese bowl when I really crave it. When the pasta is cooked I just add those into the microwave and swirl around when it's melted my fork and it gets all cheesy. Sliced and baked sweet potatoes are a great alternative to fries. You can also just bake potatoes instead of frying them and eat them in smaller portions. As far as ice cream goes, I pretty much hate diet ice cream, but I do like the skinny cow and weight watcher ice cream cones. The cones are layered with chocolate and the bottom even has chocolate just like a drumstick ice crema cone would! They're also drizzled with chocolate on top and I think they're pretty darn good for diet ice cream (I didn't even know they were diet the first time I tried these). As far as cinnamon rolls go, you can make healthier treats using cinnamon like low-calorie cinnamon pancakes. Instead of icing you can use whipped cream which is far lower in calories. I don't really think you can replace cookie dough because mainly what's so good about it is the high-sugar, fat, and chocolate content but you can try to eat something chocolatey instead. :) |

Woohoo!! Back down to 156 is great Carrie!!! :D I'm just glad I didn't gain weight last week and maintained haha. Next week is FINALS for me. I'm kind of nervous because it's annoying. Also yes my school is in quarters... but they're also in semesters it's kind of confusing. You get a semester and quarter grade so IDK. I've been soooo busy this last week and I know this week is going to be stressful so I'm trying to plan for myself haha. It's kind of upsetting to know it's already summer and I still have so much to lose, but I think next summer will be exciting!! |

I can't wait until next week is over so I can be done with school!! Lauren I agree that every once in awhile you should be able to have an 'unhealthy' meal... after all it's going to happen after you gain weight so why not get used to it before you try to maintain??
I didn't start doing this until very recently, but every once in awhile I do need a little "mini-break" and i eat closer to maintence level of calories because I'll add a slice of pizza or bowl of pasta in replacement of my lower-calorie dinners. |

Weigh in: 151.8 (same as last week) Goal For Next Week: 150.8 lbs I normally plan around 1250 calories, and then give myself a 100-200 calorie extra padding for whenever I get hungry throughout the day. That always helps! Nicole what kind of the ice cream did you get? The cones or sandwiches or bars?? There's so many choices for 150 calories! |

Right now I don't really have access to a gym, but I do have my mom's handy eliptical. I'm not really sure what happened today but between the sleeping, homework, classes, and napping I only managed to eat a mere 922 calories and it's 8:00. I guess I'll eat a late dinner. This time of year I forget to eat every now and then... it's a good thing I'm counting calories!
P.S. What are you guys limiting your calories to?? I find 1300-1400 calories works best for me. I haven't lost any weight this week though because I've eaten at maintenence most days. :( Oh well. |

First off, you might be upset or surprised at the current number. Just know though, that nothing feels better than knowing you made real progress, so it's definitely worth it!!
I use a scale and it DEFINITELY encoruages me. Sure I don't see a smaller number EVERY time, but I know I'm on the right track. I usually weigh myself 1-2 times a week. Don't focus TOO much on the scale, but I definitely like to know somewhere around where I am. |

Hahaha today I tried both the Skinny Cow & Weight Watchers ice cream cones (I split 1 of each with my sister) and I have to say I rate them both an A+ on taste. For 150 calories, they're well worth the treat every once in awhile... as long as I have someone to eat them with so I don't eat more than one that is :) Normally I hate the fat-free or diet branded ice cream, but this definitely tasted like a regular ice cream bar from top to bottom. That made me happy today to know I have another snack/dessert item I can add to my list! |
