Thank you everyone for all the replies I was diagnosed with hypothyroid 3 years ago (they told me that my thyroid was virtually non-functioning) and have been on meds for it since then. I have not done any body measurements...just been watching my clothes to see if they start feeling loose. I do have one pair of shorts that do seem a BIT loose on me now compared to before but everything else is fitting the same. I will definitely look into buying a food scale (can anyone recommend a good one?)...I do think that my measurements of food are probably way off. I try to always look at the food and guestimate what a serving is and THEN I take away another 1/4 of that...but I'm probably still off. |

ok thanks for clarifying. I have been walking everyday. I haven't missed one day in 3 weeks. BTW: I'm 5'2, but thanks for the boost |

My mini goal date was the end of November...but since I haven't lost anything, I will probably have to extend that as it would be considered unhealthy to lose that much that fast (more than 2 pounds a week). |

I'm sorry if I got the initials incorrect... I go to tools and click on the burn meter and after entering the info, I get 2050 as what I burn on a typical day. I assumed this was my BMR? After I exercise (the walking that I've been doing) then that number goes to 2250. I am 33 |

My burn meter is 2050...with the 1.5 miles added on, it usually goes up to 2250 (so that is even more of a deficit)! |

thank you for all the suggestions. In order to use my calendar to schedule meetings, I have to pay extra to have it connected to the internet. Not economical for us right now. I already use the once a day daily alarm on the phone for something else (equally important) and I don't want to forget to reset it. I also hope that I won't be sitting at my computer all day, waiting for an alarm to go off. I will check out the timers at walmart. Thanks again everyone! |

| Weight Loss | drinking water? | May 16 2009 12:36 (UTC) |

Thanks for the replies. I am terrible about drinking enough of anything during the day. I do have one soda everyday (sometimes 2) and maybe a glass or two of lemonade. But other than that, I don't drink anything at all Yesterday I did pretty good (for me) with drinking about 6 glasses of ice water. |

Original Post by bethie421: yes please do add me. I feel the same way. I am so sick and tired of being overweight, tired, and depressed. I have a great family and really should have very little to be depressed about. Yet all I can think about is my weight and how awful I feel and look |

thanks all, I appreciate the advice and support I'm just really frustrated with myself....this has been going on for way to long. I started doing some light weight lifting, hoping that would help me to burn fat. Instead I gained 2 pounds, it upset me. I suppose it could be muscle? I just want all this weight GONE, ya know Hey, I guess if I'm wishing...a million dollars would be nice too |

You runners really sound passionate about running! Thanks for all the GREAT replies to the thread. So many tips and advice! I appreciate them all and will try them out. I want to start running. I think that if nothing else, it will at least boost my adherence for chasing my kids in the yard |

Thank you findingmeagain! I appreciate all the excellent tips and advice. I am definitely going to be using them. It was a special day for us yesterday and so we celebrated by going out for dinner. I thought for certain that I would end up going way over my calories allotted. But I kept reminding myself that I was not going to fail...that I want to be healthier and slimmer. I only allowed myself ONE glass of soda (usually I would have at least 3 by the end of a restaurant meal). Then I left about a 1/4 of my entree on the plate. That would never have happened before. I did go over the 1200-1300 allowed, but it wasn't by much and I am so proud of myself. Even better, when I got on the scale a few minutes ago.....I had lost another pound |

WOW...I didn't expect so many responses Thanks everyone for all the great advice. The 1200-1300 calories a day I was going by was given to me by this site. It said that was a safe number for me to lose the weight I need to lose. But I was thinking last night that I might add in a few fruits even if it goes over 1300 by a little. I just fear that I am going to be so hungry that I'll binge otherwise. Water is something that I am definitely going to have to work at. I just can't seem to acquire a taste for it. But I'm forcing myself to drink it anyway. I've heard that adding lemon makes it taste better, but I don't like it that way either (actually I like it less that way). |

Thank you Kthompson! Great ideas!
ETA* I just took a look at your profile and you are doing amazing! I think I might just have to start a journal. I never really put store in that before even though I know a lot of people do it. But now I think writing down what I'm feeling might actually help with the weight loss. |

Awesome job losing the 25 pounds. I hope I can say the same for myself soon! The cheat day sounds great...but again I am afraid that I wouldn't stop. That the one day would turn into 2 days and so on. Maybe later on after I have lost some weight, I will feel confident in myself to give it a try. |

So I should pick one day a week to log it in here and then maybe weigh myself daily to see if I need to step up exercising or tone down calories? I am starting to think that maybe I am not eating enough. I just realized that it is almost 9 pm and I am only at a little over 900 calories (according to my calorie log on here and I was sure to log everything I put in my mouth, including the juice I had with lunch). I'm not really feeling hungry, but I felt this way last night when I went to bed and I woke up at 4 am starving. |

Thank you dkenworthy for your support and welcome! You are most likely correct about the calories and I have a feeling I am not going to be able to stick to 1300. I am not sure though that I should allow myself any treats (which to me would be a sweet?). I know that as weak as I am, I would not stop at one bite or even two |

Thank you for everyone for all the tips and suggestions! What great advice. It is hard not to weigh myself daily...I just want to see if it is working, ya know. But I will definitely try. |

Thanks coppertop and JTH for the welcome and advice! I have started logging my food intake and to eliminate a lot of the junk food in the house. But I have found it to not be possible (for us) to get rid of everything. My children are very active and we feel they are ok with having the occasional treat. But perhaps I can just buy something small...this way I'll know it is JUST for my kids and I would never deprive them of something so that I could pig out on it. The 84 pounds is just my long time weight goal. For right now I do have a smaller goal of losing 30 pounds by August. I have a gym membership but I don't use it as much as I need to. I tend to go steadily for a week or so and then I find a reason to skip a day, then I'm skipping 2 days, then 3 and so on. I tell myself that I wasn't seeing results from it anyway (and I wasn't...but then I wasn't really dieting either until now) so what is the point. Thanks again for your welcome! |
