| Weight Loss | calorie intake question | May 11 2009 19:57 (UTC) |

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I'm just trying to make sense of weight loss, fitness, calories, etc. You'd think I'd have a handle by now, but I don't. I would like to change my exercise routine, but getting out to a gym is not possible. I may try to buy more DVD's when I can. I really think I need to consdier bumping up my strength training. I've thought about taking more thanone day off, but I'm not sure I could wrap my brain around that. I even make it a point to work out on days I'm sick. I just can't NOT workout, ya know what I mean? I don't adjust my calories on days I do extra workout...I figure if my BMR is around 1380, then anything I burn off via exercise will be a deficit. I'm only burning around 300-400cals/day, so it'd still take me more than a week to lose a pound, and that's if I don't go over my BMR calories. (At least I think that's how all that works). Again, thank you so much for responding. |

This is my 2nd thread that I have started with no reponse; perhaps this is not the community for me. |

I eat more of the foods I'm not supposed to when I visit my mom as well. Now, I bring my own foods...enough for 3 meals each day and several snacks for each day. This makes me feel like I have control over my eating rather than the other way around. And if I feel like I must "binge" (probably from the stress of not being at my home), I know I can reach into my stash and hopefully get my fix with a fiber bar and a banana, or a piece (or two) of peanut butter toast. If I had to eat what was available from my mom's house, I'd no doubt have to choose the mms, the donuts, the chips & dip, the ice-cream...whew, it's tempting there, but having my own back-up plan really helps me a lot. |

I'm married with 4 kids (all under 12), and we budget about $225/week, although we often go over for things like extra milk, bread, and eggs throught out the week. This number also includes non-grocery items like diapers, wipes, shampoo, laundry deteregent, kleenex, etc. |

I try not to have any cheat days, but weekends do get me sometimes, especially if we eat out with friends. I cannot say that I have any luck with any cheat days as I've been trying to lose 5 pounds for a year, hehe! |

| Weight Loss | Face or Body? Which would you choose? | May 10 2009 22:53 (UTC) |

This is a tough question, especially if the numbers on the scale drive your motivation. I have lost a lot of weight recently, and it definitely shows in my face, although I'm still not happy with the way my body looks or the way my clothes fit. In fact, my cousin told me recently that she thought my face looked better when I weighed a little more. But since we can't spot-reduce, we cna't gain 5lbs and tell it where we want it to go. |

| Weight Loss | Has anybody lost 60+ pounds without exercise and without extra skin? | May 06 2009 00:13 (UTC) |

Hi! I've lost about 75 pounds. At my heaviest, I weighed 189...I am now, and have been, holding steady at about 115-117. It took me approx. 10 months to lose it and I have kept it off for almost a year. I do have some extra skin, but it's manageable (although I'm considering a tuck in the future). I have alo had 4 kids, so that it moreso the reason for the ksin, I'm thinking. I exercise -- I don't know how to lose that much weight without doing so. I still exercise each day, about an hour of cardio 5-6 days a week, with alternating strength 3-4 days a week. My diet is full of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and as little processed foods as I can find. I try to think of food as fuel, so I am making it a habit to RARELY eat for pleasure. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | What do you do to properly count calories for home-made food? | Apr 20 2009 22:41 (UTC) |

I also use a food scale and measuring cups and spoons ; I count everything that goes into the meal, then I divide that total number by the number of servings. The recipe calculator is great, but I just pen and paper in the kitchen as I cook. i cna't say it's completely accurate, but I'm guessing it's a very close estimate. |

| Weight Loss | Snacking!! | Apr 20 2009 22:37 (UTC) |

Oh, I have no idea, lol! I've only recenlty started to try The Zone bars, but since they have chocolate, I'd assume they have milk. I do like Kashi cereal bars, but they're not exactly meal replacements. I have heard of these before: http://www.amazon.com/Met-Rx-Replacement-Pean ut-Butter-3-52-Ounce/dp/B000GX7M02. I don't know if they ocme in stores though. You may could try using a search engine for meal replacement for lactoce intolerance. |

I've done very well today, but yesterday had about 1/4 of a donut ... my little guy's leftover. But last week, I stayed out of town at my mom's and spent the week helping her finish off a double-layer coconut creme cake.. It was SO good, but I can't say it worth it since I have to spend this week paying for it. :) |

Oh, I've also found that keeping a "meal replacement" bar in my purse is always nice, especially when life just changes your daily plans, ha! |

I personally don't like to spend the day snacking b/c it does make me feel like I didn't get a good "meal," then I feel jipped on the eating part of my day, lol! I try to make it a point to sit down and eat full, planned meals each time. I wonder if you would be able to take a quick break to run to small store to get a healthy micro-meal or deli-salad? I also find that I tend to underestimate my calories when I spend the day snacking. My one "motto' (if you can call it that) is to eat on purpose. This helps me to focus on avoiding eating things that aren't nutrionally beneficial. |

I wonder if you would like to workout with DVDs as a change of pace from machines? I've never worked out with a machine, so I can't speak personally on that, but I love my workout DVDs. |
