Fitness Which zone do I want to be in? Nov 24 2009
19:24 (UTC)

Through out the week I do different type of workouts that have me in different zones.  I do strength training 3 times a week.  Zumba 2 days a week, and Step 2 days a week.  I also get on the treadmill and elliptical on my strength training days.

Thanks for the input guys.

Oh yeah you would have made a big mistake by doing more.  Your body needs time to adjust to the new work out.  You don't want to do too much too soon.

LOl  When I first did Plyo I absolutely hated it. I made the mistake of not giving  it a chance and I substituted it.  Same with the abs.  After my 90 challenge I thought I'd give Plyo a try and now I love it! LOL  Give everything a chance.  As you get fit it all becomes easier.

Oh yeah you will feel the abs tomorrow.  Abs are tough especially if you don't have a lot of core strength.  That soreness won't really interfere too much with your Plyo.

I will try and post before and after pics on my profile so you can see my results.  I didn't do the full 6 days most weeks and I didn't do the abs after phase 1 but I still got good results.  In Jan I plan on doing it again and this time giving it all a chance .  I'm not gonna make the same mistake twice.

Emilyaziegler - Just wait, you'll fee it tomorrow. After day one I felt good and felt like maybe i didn't do enough.  I couldn't even do a real push up.  I was on my knees.  By day 2 though i sure felt it.  You will feel sore.  Especially for the first 2 weeks or so.  Afterwards you still feel sore but not as much.  After my 90 challenge I can now do 6 real push ups before I adjust to my knees.  My arms have toned and even have definition.  You'll like it.  Just Keep pushing play.  The first week to two weeks is the hardest.

My boyfriend came home and I told him that he should have spoken to me first.  He honestly thought I might have been going to far.  He thinks my workouts are extreme.  But when you're already pretty fit, you have to work harder to get results and I don't think he took any of that into consideration.  He says he did not know my reasons behind daily weighing.   Either way the scale is now back in the bathroom. LOL

Sokkies - That's what works for me too.

Vermicious -  He doesn't hear about it.  We get up pretty much the same time every morning and he watches me do it.  He's always teasing me about it.  I started CC back in April and he saw me losing weight and then wanted me to count his calories.  When I started doing it and weighting everything that he ate he called me "Food Nazi".  Although he was joking, it just seems that everything I do he See's me as over doing it.  I don't know  He needs to lose some weight but he's also happy with himself where he's at. He always says he liked me better when I was Jolly (he means fat).  I think part of it  is that it's making him have to think about himself and make some better changes for himself and he's just lazy and doesn't want to.

I weigh myself once a day first thing in the morning.  That's it.  There are days that I don't weight myself and it's not a big deal.  I don't not freak out if the number is higher than I want.  I look at any changes that I may have made or not made and sometimes plan my work out or meals with the number that I see.  For me it has become a tool in helping me maintain for the moment until spring.  Maybe I shouldn't depend on it like I do.  He knows why I do it.  I will have to talk to him again.  I will try a week without it though just so he can't say I didn't try.  That's if he gives it back to me. LOL

No, no control issue, LOL  but I will have to hide the remote now just to pick on him.  He's a goofball and is always picking on me.

Thanks for the feed back.

I'm not worried about losing him. LOL  We've been together almost 3 years and planning on getting married.  I told him we were past the point of the whole engaged thing.  We  know it's gonna happen so why not just do it.

I guess I'm upset at the fact that if he thinks I have a problem then he should have come and talk to me about it.  I do admit it will be a little hard to break the habit of weighting myself every morning when I get up but we'll see how it goes.

Fitness P90X???? Anyone tried it? Oct 14 2009
22:36 (UTC)

There is a P90X group.  I Started P90X in June and finished the 90 day challenge in Sept.  It's great.  In the beginning it was hard and I struggled.  I couldn't even do one real push up.  Now I can do 6 real push ups.  I still do P90X but I don't follow any of the programs.  I do it here and there.  I have toned up and lost 10 lbs.  I didn't follow their diet guide but I did watch what I eat.  The great thing about P90X is that you can modify it to fit you physical capabilities.  You really should do it.  A lot of my friends are doing it and love it.  You may not like it in the beginning but at the end you'll crave the work outs.  Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Fitness Running for the first time Sep 24 2009

I just started running outside about 3 months ago.  I was never a runner but in March I started trying running on the treadmill.  It was hard at first.  I could only run a few minutes before my chest started hurting. Running outside is different than gym equipment.

When I first started running outside I started with 1 mile and than 1.5 and so on.  I'm up to 3.5 miles now.  What I found helpful was to map and mark .5 mile to 1 mile increments of the area I run in.  I know from my door to the complex gate is .25 miles.  From there to the first small red barn is 1 mile and to the second barn it's 1.5 miles.  The road I run on makes a big circle for a total of 4 miles from door to door.  Once you have your markers just start jogging and jog until you can't anymore and walk the rest.  Every time you jog try to go a little further than you did the time before.  It has worked for me.  I Hope this helps you some.

We all fall into a rut, you just can't give in.  I crave chocolate everyday too.  Just try and find healthier alternatives.  I find that Emerald's Cocoa Almonds and Kellogg's Chocolate Chip Fiber bars satisfies my chocolate craving.  I still eat candy bars, but I eat 2 miniature ones instead of a whole regular size one.   You can eat everything that you love but just smaller portions.   I eat pasta, buffalo chicken, and enchiladas thanks to recipes I have found from Cook yourself thin.  You should check it out.

Make sure you take cloths for all seasons, France does get cold in the winter.  Take a good amount of dress cloths.  The style over there is dressier.  You will see many women going to the market in heels and make up, not in sweats or bed pants like you see here.  Not that you have to dress the way they do, but what's the point of going to another country if you don't learn and live like them.  I don't know how much spending money you'll have but I do know that you'll want to shop there.  How much space do you have to work with?

My fiance has pics of his ex (he was gonna propose to her) in his album .  He's also got pics of other girls as well.  But  I doesn't bother me.  We all have a past.   He has a past just as you do.  it would be the same as him getting upset with you because you have pics of your ex or maybe things that your ex has bought you.

The way to see it is that he is with you.  If he wanted her he would have stayed with her.  I doubt he still really thinks much about her.  if he's happy with you then he doesn't.

I once found 2 pairs of thongs in my fiances dresser, that didn't belong to me.  I told him that I didn't mind if he kept little keepsakes or whatever of his past girls but that I'd appreciate it if he kept them out of my sight in a box stored somewhere.  He choose to throw them away.

As  If it really bothers you then do the same, express that you don't mind if he keeps any thing from his ex (including photos) but you'd appreciate it if it wasn't in your sight.  As puh8suwrux said, in a non-confrontational way.

Thank you very much.  It has taken me 1 yr 7 months to get to where I'm at now.  Post surgery 182 lbs currently 145 lbs.  the first 20 lbs or so were lost through diet alone.  the rest have been from diet and exercise.

You know maybe some of it does have to do with us turning 30 and our metabolism slows down a little. I don't know.  I'm sure once you get put on meds you will start to feel better.  Although my endocrin did say that it can take up to 6 months to get the full effect.

You look great in your pics too.  And yeah my belly is there too. LOL  what can I say, we aren't 21 anymore. LOL

Oh check out www.webmd.com  it has some helpful info on everything.

I do recommend seeing an endocrin.  They are more knowledgeable bout your thyroid than your GP.

As far as meds go, Synthroid has been great for me.  No side effects or anything.  I take it in the morning 30 mins - 1 hour before I eat.

I have found that birth control can cause more problems with the thyroid too.  I had been on BC for about 10 years.  After my surgery I developed a condition called angeoedema.  It's an autoimmune.  I ran out of my BC and didn't take them for a month.  In that time I started taking synthroid as well.  My outbreaks were almost completely gone.  the next month I started my BC again and my outbreaks worsened.  I have since stopped my BC.

If you were sitting on your couch all day eating chocolate then I'd have to say you were using your condition as an excuse.  You aren't.  You are trying to change it.  You know your body and you know how you feel, it's no excuse the condition does play a big part in it.  I always felt so frustrated because I knew something was wrong and people didn't believe me or blew it off. (including my first endocrin)

I have not researched anything dietary but after my surgery my endocrin told me to go on a low carb diet. No more than 90 grams of carbs a day.  I did that for about 2 months and lost about 15 lbs.  I wasn't even exercising at the time.

I hope some of this is helpful.

I had hypothyroid problems as well.  I had a hard time losing weight when I did diet and exercise.  And when I didn't diet and exercise i gained more weight.  I also had anxiety attacks, insomnia, and fatigue.   I had bloodwork done but it was normal. It wasn't until the unltrasound that they found a nodule.  I had blood work done every 3 months to monitor my levels, my endocrin thought I had Thyroiditis.

At first I was put on Zoloft for the anxiety and trazodone for the insomnia.  I took myself off those meds though, there must be something better for me then relying on those meds to only help the symptons and not cure them.  I was never given suppressive therapy, which I have been given. I wasn't happy with my first endocrin, I felt he wasn't doing his job so  I saw a second endocrin for a second opion and I was right.  I should have been given suppressive thrapy right away to make the nodule smaller.   My nodule grew much bigger and I had to have my nodule removed.  I only have the right lobe of my thyroid now.  I'm on 50micro grams of synthroid now.

Make sure you find a good endocrin and get a second opion.  My surgery could have been avoided if my 1st endocrin did his job right.

Are they giving you meds?  Have you had an ultra sound to make sure you have no nodules?

Fitness Scale is down but inches are up. Aug 11 2009

I am trying to have the mind  set of losing fat and not worring about weight.  Doing the monthly weight in and measurments this month just don't match my progress from the last few months.

Thanks for your advice.  I will have to try  and mix up my work outs like you suggest.  thanks

Here's roughly what my weekly work outs were over the last month:
monday - Chest, shoulders & triceps  55 mins (with warm up and cool down) weights and push ups
tuesday - Kenpo X - 55 mins (with warm up and cool down) This is cardio with a lot of boxing moves.
wednesday - Back & Biceps, & Ab ripper 75 mins (with warm up and cool down) weights and pull ups
thursday - Yoga X 90 mins (with warm up and cool down)
friday - legs and back 55 mins (with warm up and cool down) weights and pull ups

I'm sure I need more carido.  I average between 1700 and 1800 calories a day.  I usually eat chicken or turkey breast (lunch meat), whole wheat bread, green beans, green leaf lettuce, asparagus, mushrooms,  apples, strawberries, low fat cheese and milk, almonds, and peanut butter.  I do indulge in chocolate which is with in my 1700 to 1800 calories a day.  Now I do eat 1 serving of chips or cheez its from time to time.  There are days that I don't eat as healthy as I should but for the most part I try to keep my carbs between 40%-50%, protein at 30%-40% and fat at 20%-30%.  The weekends get me though.  Either I'm out of town or we have guest so my diet isn't as controlled as it is during the week.  I hope this answers all your questions.  any help is greatly appreciated.

Weight Loss what am I doing wrong?! help! Aug 03 2009

I have been using P90X and here's what I learned from it.  You should not work out the same muscles every day, which would mean don't workout your abs every day.  Alternate your days and muscles you use.  I'll give you examples from my work out.

Monday - Chest & back & abs
Tuesday - Cardio
Wednesday - Shoulders & arms & abs
Thursday - cardio
Friday - Legs & back & abs
Saturday - cardio

Any combination will work. You can do back and biceps or chest and triceps.  Switching up your routines keeps your body from getting used to the work out.  Also Yoga is great.

You really should up your calorie intake. You are more than likely burning more calories then you think and your body is holding on to what it has.  As the last poster stated your body  memorizes the set work out program you are doing and the set calories you intake.  You need to keep your body guessing.  You need to reset your body, throw it off so it works more effectively for you.

I tried HIIT for the first time today on the treadmill.  I did 10 mins of warming up making my way to 4.5mph.  Then I ran at 8 mph for a min then went down to 4 mph for a min.  I was out of breath at the 8mph.  I finished a little over 30 mins ago and my thighs are still warm and tingly.

I found though that it is hard to do an full min for the simple fact that the treadmill takes a a few seconds to adjust to the new speed.  I did 8 intervals of running and 7 intervals of walking.  I then went to 4.5 mph for about 15 mins and then lowed it to 4 mph for 5 mins and lowered it againto 3.5mph for 5 mins as a cool down.

Is 4 mph a good gap between the two speeds? Also In reading though this post, it says not to do HIIT until so many hours after weight training.  I did the HIIT this morning and later today when my boyfriend gets home around 5 ish we will do P90X Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, and maybe the Ab ripper X , depending on how I feel.  Is is ok to do weight work out 7 hrs after the HIIT?

A few years ago i was given zoloft for anxiety attacks and trazadone for insomnia caused by my thyroid.  I didn't gain any weight from taking them.  But I found that every month or so they were upping my dose because my body  got used to them and they weren't working for me.  I took myself off of them and found that I slept better.  I still get insomnia from time to time but I take melatonin when it gets bad and it seems to help.

He should get a cat scan as soon as possible.  A guy that works with my boyfriend went to the ER and they sent him home.  The next day he went in for a second opinion to another hospital and it turned out it was his appendix. He was operated on immediately.  I  don't want to freak you out but the sooner the test get done the better.  Sometimes you have to get on doctors to do tests and do whats right.

I know how you feel.  I am 5'9 as well and currently weight 146 and between a size 6/8.  Only my shorts are size 6's.  At my biggest I was up to 182.   My boobs have shrunk, which sucks.  Not that they were big to begin with but they were more than what they are now.  I do have curves as well.  I hate that I have to buy a size up in jeans to fit my thighs and butt and then have the waist be big.  I have the bump in my belly.  I wish it were flat but I feel great when i put on tee shirts and the bump is hardly noticeable.

Now that I'm down to roughly my ideal weight Im trying not to focus on the number on the scale anymore or what size Im wearing.  I'm trying to focus on inches.

I'm currently doing P90X with my boyfriend.  I'm trying not to be obsessive about my workouts and eating.  Some days are harder then others.  Most days I eat pretty well balanced diet and with in my calorie rang and try to work out 6 days a week.  For the last few months I've been living to work out and diet where as now I'm trying to adjust to working out and eating better to live.

So long story short, my focus is to tone but at a slower pace and not beat myself up if I don't.  I'm happy where Im at.  You should be happy too.  If you want to tone then add 3 workouts a week for weight lifting.  For us curvy women no matter how skinny we get our curves won't go away.  Appreciate them, there are many women that would kill to have curves.

smwhipple- you do look like Jessica Biel.  Alot more then I do.

Friends, family and even new people I meet tell me I look like Jessica.  I don't see it.  Maybe my face shape and my complexion?  I get that even with the curly hair, you know I could maybe see with the straight hair but not curly.  I'll take the compliment though because she is beautiful. She's got a great body too.

When I was younger I was told I looked like Mariah Carey.
