Fitness Working out bare foot v sneakers? Jun 04 2009

I'm not sure if it is good for you or not, but I work out barefoot.  I seem to have more balance, and I feel like I get more out of it when I don't wear my shoes.  When I use my elipical, but that is more because the things that are supposed to help with traction hurt my feet.

I think it is hard to change eating habbits so quickly.  We didn't get bigger by eating heathy.

I think that the worst part of it that people buy into the claims.  My sister used to sell a weight loss program, and she really believed that it worked.  My cousin had a horrible seizure on the same stuff.  To me that proved that not only did the stuff not work, it was dangerous!

Just out of curiosity sack, what are you girls eating?  I feel hungry a lot, and I am trying to stick to about 1600 cal. a day.  Either I am doing something wrong or you are more controlled than me.

Great article!

I love soup.  I have been experimenting with making soups at home.  I was eating canned soup all of the time, but they are a lot higher in salt content then the homemade ones.

Ok.  I am good at chiming in late.

I don't have the money to join a gym either.  I do exercise videos.  There are some that use light hand weights.  My hubby was telling me the other day that he could see that my butt was firming up.  I have noticed that I am starting to see more definition in my arm.  I have been losing 1-2.5 lbs. a week when I am persistent and make sure that I do it 5 or 6 days a week.

I think attitude is a big part of everything.  You sound so positive about turning this around.  I believe that people can do almost anything if they put their mind to it and believe it can be done.Wink

I weigh myself every Saturday morning, naked, on the bathroom scale.  It is a lot easier for me to do just before I take a shower.  I have a hard time functioning in the morning until I get a shower (I guess it is a lot like some people and coffee).  I workout at night after my kids go to bed, so I don't have to worry about that.

Foods Diet food or LESS QUANTITY normal food? May 26 2009

I don't really like the "diet" foods either.  Give me a homemade chocolate chip cookie, and I'm happy!  I'm not real good at reading labels as far as eating "clean" goes either.  I make a lot of my foods at home because...well...it is cheaper for the most part.  I have kids so I can't just say no more pizza or pancakes (my kids could live on pancakes if I let them).  After putting that much effort into making foods from scratch for them, I need to be aloud to eat them too.

I am thining that it is possible that not logging everything.  Instead of metally subtracting on the day that you workout, you should still log your intake.  Maybe you could log your workout on the activity log as well.  You may not be burning as many calories as you think you are as well.

I like to knit, read, and do work out videos (I like looking for new ones).  I have also been known to sew.  Baking is a fun hobby, but that leads to eating too much of the wrong things :-(.

I would think that if your dr is going to have you do a bone scan, she is more worried about it than she is letting on.  I have a medical problem that requires me to take meds every day.  I never had a dr tell me the risks if I didn't take them.  I found out from research that I could have serious heart problems if I don't take it.  No dr had ever told me that!  Sometimes you just have to trust your gut instinct.Wink

One suggestion that I would have is if you know where you are going to eat, look up on their website the calorie content of their meals and plan ahead.  If you already know what you are going to eat, it takes away that anxiety.

I have a thyroid problem as well.  It is harder to lose weight with hypothyroidism, but once you are regulated on your meds it is a lot easier.  It takes about six weeks of regularly taking the meds for your body to get used to it (according to my dr).  Hang in there.

I think it is just the new meathod that CC is using to calculate the burn meter.  I am risking showing my nerdiness here, but last week there was a blog about the change in the burn meter.  Here is the link. My burn meter is about 100 calories lower as well.

If you are weighing at night and drinking that much water, it could be off.  The most accurate weight is in the morning after going to the bathroom.  I prefer to weigh myself in the buff also because then I don't have to worry about the weight of my clothes.

I think this is very individualized.

I was doing great in the exercise department for a few months.  Then, I went on vacation.  I have been struggling ever since.  I know I just need to be consistent and find that grove again.

Original Post by madamq:

By the way you can probably order a similar water anaysis from your city.  Call the water department.  They always have analysis data available and getting the report is free.  For comparison you might be able to get a similar report from your local water bottler.  It can be eye opening I think.

My city sends out a water report every year that says what is in our water.  It can taste strange in the summer, but once I get used to it, it isn't so bad.

I have seen so many news reports saying that a lot of the bottled waters are just tap water anyway.  What is the point of buying it if I am already paying for water to come into my house?

I was about your age when I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder.  I am not say that is what is happening in your case, but it is worth checking out.  There are also other medical issues that could effect your weight.  If you haven't already, I would suggest that you see a doctor and ask if they could do some blood work.

I love thses kind of unexpected compliments!  Congrats!  That goes to show that 3 pounds makes a difference.  What a great motivator to continue!

My hubby made a comment about how I was looking in my workout clothes once.  He got a great reward for that one (ok maybe that was what he was aiming for)!
