Foods Toxic Food Confessions Apr 15 2008

My problem was mostly quantity. I'd eat whole bags of Doritos or Cheezits or Smartfood popcorn (and I still can, that's a hard habit to break). Sometimes I'd buy bags of fun size candies and eat the whole thing in a day. I used to eat a whole bag of butter popcorn every day after school, then I'd scrape my fingernails along the side to get the butter off the sides. At the same time, I drank at least two big MUGS of chocolate milk each afternoon. Until I found out I had high cholesterol, I would have 2 cheese sandwiches for lunch, melted in the microwave. Freshman year of college I would get a box of 6 Krispy Kreme glazed donuts and a bag of chips as my weekend provisions.

I'm so much better about all of that now... I have my occasional binges but nothing as bad as that was. Ugh. I feel horrible about having done all that.
Young Calorie Counters 5'7" or 5'8" girls! What size are you? Apr 05 2008

I'm 5'8 and I haven't weighed myself in a while, but I'm around 155. I'm US size 9/10 or 11/12, depending on the brand. My weight is always centered in my stomach and I'm very short-waisted, so my size is usually higher than those of others of my weight.

About 18% for me... chchtv11, you divide how much you lost by how much you weighed at the start, so you lost almost 15%!

No, I mean if there were no bad effects at ALL, including cost or setting a bad example. Just say you could eat as much as you wanted whenever you wanted, and nobody had to know and it was all free... would you eat constantly or just when you were hungry?

I love this idea! I just ran yesterday and today and I'm trying to make it a routine. In a couple of weeks I'm moving right next to the highway, which has a great bike/running path next to it, so I'm planning to do something like this anyway. Having a plan like this looks great!
Weight Loss I'm Confused 1200 cals? Apr 29 2007

That's generally right, but does your allowance calculation tell you to eat 1200 calories per day to reach your goal? Go to Tools and click on Allowance, and enter your stats there. It'll tell you how many calories you should eat per day to reach your goal weight by your goal date. It's probably higher than 1200.

I've lost about 30 lbs and I just went down from a 38C to a 36C. One band size. I think the fact that my upper body doesn't like to lose weight is a huge part of it.

Well, I can't be sure it's accurate, but I saw the pic and it looked just the same size as the kind I get (which is bigger than the small Pizza Hut ones). So it was more as a reference that that's how I add them.
Foods Buying junk food - humourous question Apr 25 2007

Haha! I do that *all* the time. And more than that, I grab something that looks good in the grocery store, walk around with it looking for other groceries, find something else I want but is high-cal so I'll only get it if I put the first thing back, find something else and put the second thing back, then realize the third thing has too many calories so I just walk out with nothing. It's an interesting cycle!

When I have pizza in NYC I count one slice as two on C-C. So I'd just enter "Cheese Pizza" but as two slices instead of one. It's about 280 calories.

Shsassy, Supersize Me made me and my sister crave McDonald's! Hee :)

I know how you feel, akamom2. Today I had curly fries for the first time in aaaages. I could hardly eat any of them because of all the grease. I just wasn't used to it. But they were tasty for a little while, and it definitely killed the craving!

I love it just with strawberry jam on it. I get the sugar-free kind so it's only like 5 calories to cover the whole slice! If I need more protein and fat, I'll use peanut butter instead :)

I want to feel like I have normal eating habits.

I want to look better because it increases my confidence and makes me and everyone around me happier.

I want to be healthy and stay that way for life.

I love to exercise but it's just not fun when I can't do it for long because I get tired too fast. I want to be able to run after my campers all day and then go jogging at night when I'm at camp this summer.

Vegetarian wanting to be vegetarian Apr 17 2007

I'm not a vegetarian, but I've pretty much given up on red meat. I OCCASIONALLY eat steak when my dad takes me out, but otherwise the only meat I eat is chicken. Chicken is great because it's packed with protein and very healthy (as long as it's cooked right!). I think if you're just aiming to lose weight and maybe become more healthy, gradually cutting out red meat could help, but like everyone else said, it's not at all a guarantee of weight loss. And you have to make sure you're still getting enough protein.

Gen, I've been on this site for a year now and I've seen your old posts too. I distinctly remember trying to help you then too. I'm sorry though, I didn't know you started to see someone about it. I'm glad you did, that's a great step to getting over your obstacles. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm sorry pandajenn if I said anything wrong, but I don't think it's right that someone like gen who's made a million posts like this should just be tolerated. Something needs to happen, because these posts are not constructive and it's obvious from them that she has a problem that she's not willing to face. I feel like if we're not at least a little harsh then she won't learn anything, because so far she hasn't! All I want to do is help her, and she won't listen to the voices of reason. I honestly don't even understand why she is allowed to post at all anymore because she doesn't listen to the people who answer her!

Gen. Yes. You can eat normal amounts of food and "not get fat." What you've eaten today is not enough. It's NOT a normal amount of food. You aren't getting the nutrients you need. If you just eat fruits and vegetables and soup, you will not be healthy. Eat a piece of chicken and a few handfuls of nuts and maaaaybe you'll be okay for the day. But if you can't bring yourself to do that, eat the apple because at least you'll get a little closer to what you need to SURVIVE.

You need to talk to somebody. You are not eating enough, and I know this is a routine for you because I've seen a TON of your posts and they're always the same. "Getting fat" takes a fair amount of time of overeating, which means eating MORE than your body burns for a significant length of time. And if you're paranoid of getting fat even though you're consistently eating less than your body needs to SURVIVE, then you are well en route to an eating disorder, if you're not already there.

You really need help. But I know you won't listen to me so I should probably just shut up now.

I think I should join this thread... in the last year I lost 30-35 lbs, but in the last month or so I've really had trouble with keeping it up. I've binged almost every day. I haven't gone to the gym. I've been eating well all day and then at night I just HAVE to run to Duane Reade and buy a bag of Doritos or Smartfood. It's happened about half the days of the last two weeks. I'm really worried about it but I don't know how to stop these cravings. They come when I'm bored, they come when I'm stressed, they ESPECIALLY come when I'm doing schoolwork and just want something to munch on. I know a lot of it is emotional. I just don't know how to handle it. It's kind of scary, kind of draining. But being able to just eat an entire bag of Smartfood comforts me somehow. I can't just eat some of it then put it away. It's like torture. And I can't help but buy it. I don't know what to do at all. My roommate is good with eating right, and we were doing it together for the last year, but now she's still doing well with occasional lapses, while I'm lapsing but occasionally doing well.

*Sigh*. I don't know what to do about it, but it feels kind of nice to get it out at least. I've been hiding it a lot.

If you burn 500 calories a day, you need at LEAST 1700 calories per day (because your body burns 1200 on its own, and you need to make up for that), probably more. Use the tools on this site to figure out how many calories you burn at your specific height and weight.

With that in mind, try for maybe a 300 calorie lunch (sandwiches and soup are good), and an extra 100 calorie snack later on (some nuts, maybe?).

You're not eating enough. You need at LEAST 1200 calories a day, more if you're exercising. And if you want to lose flab, it's probably better to work on toning than weightloss.

Really, being in college is no excuse to eat poorly. EVERYBODY says that but I'm not buying it! You know, if you do it right you can actually get some QUALITY food for LITTLE money! ;) All those college students have money for beer, but none for food! Tsk! Tsk!

It's easy to say that, but I can't cook. And I go to school in New York, so EVERYTHING is expensive. Plus, I have a meal plan, where I do eat a lot of healthy food. I need fast, easy food sometimes because I have a lot of random spaces in my schedule where I need to eat something cheap, filling, fast, and not use up a meal on my plan, and Ramen does that for me. Not to mention I almost never drink, so I'd appreciate if you didn't generalize about that. And yes, it's the pre-seasoned kind because I don't have a working stove.

Either way, I'm not giving up my Ramen. I know it's not great for me but I work it into my daily calorie count and have something more balanced with it, so I live with it. I just wanted to know the stats on the sodium. So thanks for your input on that :) I think I'll probably put it in at around 1000 mg to be on the safe side.
