That sounds good! I've tried something similar with peanut butter, but almond butter sounds interesting. |

| Weight Loss | Did you lose weight the first week you counted calories? | May 27 2009 03:17 (UTC) |

First week I lost about 5 pounds, thought it was mainly water weight, I was sticking to a 1300 calorie diet plus 3-4x a week excercise, check your body fat %- sometimes that .5-1 pound of fat could have been replaced by muscle if you are weight training, make sure to catch me up when you find out! Also, what is the quality of your calories? Because I cut out all gluten, dairy, red meat, processed food, and processed sugars. So I was/am eating only fruits, veggies, lean meat, and milk alternatives with the occasional quinoa pasta- you could try improving the quality of calorie. Good Luck :) |

| Weight Loss | Low Carb Question (And PCOS?) | May 27 2009 03:11 (UTC) |
|
It is normal, naturally on a low-carb diet (about 20 carbs per day) your body will reach a point of Ketosis where you will start to burn your body fat, and this state of Ketosis naturally makes a person less hungry, so when you say you're eating only around 800 calories, it makes sense considering you are on a low carb diet. The only thing to be weary of though is make sure you are getting your 500 calories of protein a day (lean meats, eggs prefferably), because If not on that low calorie count your metabolism will crash, you will not reach Ketosis, and you will not be hungry BECAUSE of the slow metabolism, and no one wants that. My thought is if you are eating your 500 calories + veggies, that should up your calorie intake as well as your fat burning! Hope this helped, happy low carbing! :) |

| Weight Loss | Did I mess up my metabolism? | May 27 2009 03:03 (UTC) |

Nothing is indefinate! Though sounds like you had something of an eating disorder back then, glad to hear you are trying to do things the right way now. Your matabolism might be crashed from crash dieting (assuming that is what you have been doing), but some people (such as myself) just have a slow matabolism whereas counting calories and cardio may not be enough, I really didn't start losing weight until I toned down my workouts to 3-4x a week, and cut out gluten (wheat, rice, bread etc.), dairy, and processed foods including processed sugars. And my body is so sensitive that by keeping a daily food journal, I figured that even 1-2 servings of honey a day will stall me on a 1500 calorie diet. My advice would be to definately give your body rest, working out everyday is putting alot of stress on your body, at least have one day where you don't workout, also go for a week at a time and temporarily cut out wheat, then the 2nd week dairy etc, you might find out you have a food allergy (I did) that is keeping you stalled, or even gaining weight. But, don't give up! It takes time, and if you do it the right way results will last a lifetime :-) Luck! |

Also, If you're looking for food bars sometimes I go to www.rawguru.com, they have the best stuff you can't find anywhere else. |

It's funny, though If you're wanting to learn/adapt the lifestyle I would reccommend the book "You Are What You Eat" by Gillian McKeith, it's amazing!! I've read both books, and hers is by far more informative. Though she doesn't focus on a total vegetarian lifestyle (she believes fish oils/fish/eggs can* be added if wished)- just a thought! |

I think what ibez meant by protein is meat, and not muscle tissue. If you are ketotic the body maintains lean muscle, just saying. |

Sounds like the scale might be a bit off, ask the gym if they have a caliper. Oh, and If you're pushing weights I'm guessing its fat that's going down. |

It happens ALL THE TIME to me, sometimes I'll fluctuate between 5-7 pounds, for example, 2 days ago I was 163, today I weight in as 156, it depends on how much food you eat, eat a pound of food and weight a pound or 2 more. |

To answer your question, one should never cut back on all carbs (so many people get this wrong though), because that can lead to calcium deficiencies etc. But what they are refferring to by "cutting carbs" simply means cutting diwn your carbs so low that your body is forced to use it's own fat stores as a form of Glucose, hense you are not running on carbs for energy but your own body fat. Just look at labeling, any meat (unseasoned, no additives etc.) is going to have 0 carbs, eggs and cheese have approx. 1 carb per serving, and veggies have about 5 carbs per serving. So, If you are looking to lower your carbs, I would suggest you cut out all of your breads, pastas, rices etc, and dairy such as milk, and of course some of your denser fruits, such as bananas, and ALL sugars and processed foods. Though such as any extreme diet this should be done in moderation. Basically eating only meats, veggies, and 4 oz. cheese a day. You will lose weight. The only problem with that is (sorry this is so long!) the majority of the "weight loss" you will see is water weight on this plan, and though you may lose some fat, when you start eating normally again, you will see rapid weight gain, wrether that be the water you lost, or simply your body becomes so dependant on Keloids (produced to be used in place of carbs on this plan), that an exces amount will shock your system causing over production of insulin causing you to store fat. lol Sorry this was crazy long, hope you can find some use out of this info! Luck! |

| Weight Loss | What if you don't have the desire to eat? | May 26 2009 03:35 (UTC) |

3000 calories seems like alot, and If you want to lose weight I wouldn't reccommend eating that much, unless you are thinking about body building, and even then about 60-70% of that calorie intake should be from lean protein alone. An average man that weighs around 200 lbs should be eating 2000 calories (this is with excercise not included), obviously If you are going to be working out you should compensate for the workout. But an easier way to get more calories is, like said, enjoy calorie dense food; dried fruit (though watch out for the sugar), nuts are great, organic nut butters (though a bit high in saturated fat), and a lot of lean meats such as fish and fowl ( I would stay away from red meat due to hard digestion and high iron), and legumes (beans etc.). One cup of black beans has 280 calories. Hope this helps! |

| Weight Loss | What is going on? | May 26 2009 03:23 (UTC) |

You are 128, your body naturally needs less food- someone who is 150 pounds can maintain their body weight on 1500 calories without excercise, a good rule of thumb is to take your weight and multiply it by 10 for your standard caloric intake. Then, when you start adding excercise that is when your BMR increases. So I would start focusing on including more fibrous veggies into your diet, they are low cal and you will naturally eat less calories. On this site when they give you your BMR they naturally add in movement (walking, driving etc.). So, I wouldn't neccesarily go with what this site gives you ver batum. Hop that helped a little! Luck. |
