No, I actually haven't weighed myself since 3 weeks ago when I started. For one, I dont own a scale. and the one at my parents house, I always forget to when Im over there. I would say, I've probably loss about 3 pounds...maybe. I'll weigh myself towards the middle-end of this week and see. And I wouldn't say Im obessessing...yet...im just really paying attention like never before to my body. When you spend X amount of time overweight and in denial, it's easy to look at your body as being "normal" or "in shape" as I really use to think it was...so now---that I actually see those areas all throughout my body (because it is spread evenly) Im probbaly just magnifying their flaws to myself. I dont' want to be mean to myself, I guess Im just a bit perturbed that I didnt notice how out of shape I had been all these years...but thanks for this insight. I'll relax a bit this week on looking so hard at myself.

CC told me to eat 1650 calories when I first joined. But I never did that---ever. Even before I joined this site and was trying to lose on my own---I was trying to stay at 1200. So, now that Im doing 1400---it works. I cant see myself adding the extra 250 calories, just for the heck of it. And if it's not muscle...then it MUST be fat. I mean, I may have over-exaggerated---as Im not HUGE. But I took nude pics of myself (front &side) and my belly was pertruding (had a seperate topic on that alone) and my thighs LOOKED swollen. Today it's seem to have gone down a bit...but I dunno. I also started my period Saturday---so I doon't know if that had something to do with it. I just thought after 3 weeks, I would began to "see" some slimmer form taking shape. But Im probably just being my impatient self. Geez! I guess too---I read where some people lose 15-20 in 8-9 weeks, whereas some it takes them almost 2 years to lose the same. I don't want to be in the latter. At 26---it SHOULD NOT take me a year or more to drop 15-20 pounds starting off---that just seems ridicoulous!

For me, it was getting tired of looking at other women my age with the bodies I knew I could have. Year after year, I would amp myself up to lose a large amount of weight in a short amount of time---only to give up once the scale barely budged. At 26, these should be my PRIME years that I can look back on and say, "WOW I had a nice shape" not, "WOW, I really was fat" So---Im finally taking the time and WORK needed to permantely drop these 35 pounds.

Thank you AGAIN everyone!! I want to individually thank you all, but I cant remember the names as I post and can't see but the last poster nancy. But everything you have shared with me makes absolute sense and does encourage me to just do what I can and make progress from there. Someone said something about my walking 5 miles Moon-Fri. Well it's actually accidental or should I say mandatory exercise. See, I don't have a car right now. So I walk that distance to get to and fro the bus to get to work. So---my higher being works in mysterious ways---because I had been saying for the last 5 years that I wanted, needed, was going to lose weight. And I had managed to shed about 15 lbs. But nothing beyond that. And now that I'll be walking 5 miles 5 days a week for atleast 2 months---Im sure that will AID in some weight loss. Thanks again for the affirmation advice. Positive reinforcement works wonders. I have a "Goal" list that's taped on my fridge door that breaks down in about 20 bullets, why I'm losing this weight. I use to say, just to look and feel better. But it's more specific than that. I want to lose so, I can do simple things some take for granted like wearing a bikini or sitting in a chair without rolls bulging out. Or running a good mile without being exhausted afterwards. I want to be the BEST me and hauling these extra 35 lbs. around makes that hard to say the least. Congrats and Good Luck to everyone!! I know we'll all reach and maintain our goals!!! Have a great weekend!!

WOW!!! Thanks to everyone!! This really lifeted my spirits this morning. And everyone is correct. It is a gradual change. I can't just expect to stop eating crap and become a warrior overnight---because thats not what I had been conditioned to for the last 6 years. I'm going to stop being so hard on myself and just take it one day at a time. Moving towards inprovement...

Thanks Amethstgirl! Yeah, I've considered that being a downfall as well...as far as tyring to do a 360 overnight. But see, with me---this isn't my first or second or even third time attempting to lose weight. I've been on L.A. weight loss, Slimfast, atkins, hardcore exercising, and some very unhealthy ways to try and lose weight before. So I do know, that this is a lifestyle...not just some quick fix. Also---I find that---when I don't do everything---it leaves room to get more and more lenient which will eventually lead me back to my same ol habits. for example...if I just took the approach of moderately exercising a few times a week and eating whatever I wanted within a certain amount of calories...I would abuse that. I would do half-ass workouts and totally defeat their purpose by consuming my calories in a pound of hotwings or something else fattening. And see---depending on the type of food---that effects the quality of my workout---cause who can workout effeciently being sluggish from a pound of greasy wings sitting in your stomach?

Okay. I'm 26...and the only tried and true workout regime that has ever gotten me consistent results is walking and running. I prefer walking, but it can't be an effortless walk. Currently I'm doing roughly 5.2 miles a day M-F, to work. And it's on an uphill terraine mainly. And I'm gonna start incoporating sprint/jog intervals into my weekends. Also, video workouts are swell! They can get monotonous, but they get the job done and can be done in the pivacy of your home. So far in all my most successful weight losses---it's always been a combo of intense and consistent cardio through walking/running and toning through videos. Hopes this helps you gals!

I'm sorta new on this too...so don't take my word. But I would say, did you edit any of your orignal settings? I'm 5'4 as well. But I'm 26 and my start weight was 165. Once I logged in all my BMI info, CC automatically set my projected goal date as Jan. 2010 as well as setting my daily calories at 1650. Well, I happen to think 1) 1650 is too much, because I can eat between 1300-1500 and be quite satisfied. 2) Jan. 2010 was estimated because of my "moderate activity" selection, whereas I've already increased that to "very active" so I went in and changed some of my settings to try and reflect a "sooner" goal date and lower caloric intake and the system bounced it out, telling me it was too extreme. So, maybe with your weight loss, the system saw that as drastic for some reason. Especially if you intially signed up saying you were "slightly active" or any other starter selections. You have to adjust those settings to reflect ALL your changes, because the system will critique you based on calorie intake, exercise and your BMI stats as a whole. So, maybe you've increased your excersise a bit without logging it into your "activity log"---you have to show that or CC will think you're losing the weight in an unhealthy manner. Sorry I was so long-winded. Smile

Thank you so much liskies!!! This sounds a lot like what I'm currently doing with the exception of the DVDs. I've heard a lot about that Turbo Jam on here. I have the Windsor pilates series and Tabeo series. Haven't used them since highschool ( I know) well the tabeo anyway...pilate wasn't out when I was in highschool. But I agree, I think thats just what I need in terms of firming everything up and toning. So, I'll start incorporating my DVDs in the evenings as well and do running on the weekends. (I walk M-F 6 miles total) Thanks again!!!

Howdy Goodpotatoe!

Yeah, Im a serial-carber. I love pasta, potatoes, doughy breads, etc. So this could be contributinig to my belly fat. Even though Im trying to be strict with my CC, I tend to notice that a high percentile of my daily food is carbs. But fresh/lean meat isn't always easy to make full meals out of. And I wouldn't get full from salad and veggies alone. I dont know, I want to try a little veganism mixed with occassional vegatarianism. I know I consume way too many meat and animal products...but as I said---it's hard to be creative with broccoli, salad and beans everyday. It's always easier to grill a 1/2 chicken breast with pasta or potatoe. My staples as meals for YEARS have been the traditional: meat and potatoes or meat, starch, veggie. I just haven't built a consistent relationship with the GOOD carbs---I need to make friends with them soon...very soon.

Also---just thought about this theory---MAYBE because you SHARE those treats, it gives you a false permission to over-indulge. We all know that feeling---it's doubly shameful when you're stuffing your face ALONE. But it's more acceptable and relaxing when eating badly in the company of others. You figure, "Hey it must not be that bad, hence Jessica's eating it too." But as you said, you also see that Jessica may not have your same weight struggles, metobolism or lifestyle. So, I think you should stop that candy jar and replace it with maybe sugar-free mints or something non-edible.

WoW Terri! Are you sure you dont work in MY office. I swear, she's the sweetest lady (who also happens to vocally struggle with her weight) and she also has the "sweet tooth" jar perched on her desk...full of hershey's minatures. And yesterday I went in and grabbed up 4 of them which came to a wasteful 168 calories.

But I notice particulary with her because she's always complaining about her weight that she is a serial sabatoger...like SERIAL. Almost 3-4 times a week, she also brings in bags of cookies, cakes and desserts. (Just as you said you do) and not only does she bring them in---but she BOAST and BRAGS and goes around the office from door to door cohercing (yes "cohercing") everyone to partake in the sugary, doughy treats.

And like cats being led to a milk pasture---we herd in one after the other stuffing our faces with that junk. Why? Because it's there. And it's comforting. But want to hear the punchline? She rarely EATS IT HERSELF. So go figure---maybe in some strange twisted, very twisted way...lol. It helps her not to binge by being able to make the treats readily available for others BUT not herself.

As strange of a theory--it may work. I know that I LOVE to cook. And usually, once done---I have no appetitite for what I've prepared. So maybe when she's eyeing that chocolate cake at home or lusting after those cookies in the grocery store---instead of grabbing them up for herself---she figures if she could atleast get the will-power to bring them to work---that will eliminate the chance that she gobbles them all up alone.

I dunno. This is just one theory. But as I said in one of my topics---I also sabotage. In different ways though. I'll lose 10-15 lbs. and instead of keeping that up---I'll start eating like a wild woman and neglecting my workout as if to purposely guarentee that the weight loss is temporary. So we all have our vices. Again---you have to recognize them, yet not give them POWER. It's hard but you can do it!!

WOW Liskies!!!

Congrats!! You had a major loss! And our stats are a lot alike. Question? How did you lose that weight and how long did it take? Did you find that some exercises were more effective than others? Do you rid any "bad" foods from your diet indefinitely? How did you stay motivated to lose 40 pounds? lots of questions I know---but I just find that whenever I start losing---say 10-15 lbs. I STOP. Not stop as in plateau, but I get so impressed by that small difference that I start back eating and stop exercising. Crazy I know. But It's like I can't reach that 20 pound mark to save my life and then drop the extra 10-15 from there...

Hi Everyone!!!

Thanks!! It feels great to know Im not alone. If Im honest, I remember about 6 months ago when I had started another weight loss program (a combo of Atkins dieting and treadmill) my tummy sorta did the same thing...but shortly thereafter---it all started to come in alignment...lol. So I guess I answered my own question. It just gets frustrating when you're starting all over again and you suddenly get amnesia of what it was like the other 50 times you tried to lose weight...lol. So this makes perfect sense cause I surely gain weight in my BELLY first. So, I guess it's gonna stay on for the long haul until everywhere else is lean/trimmed.

I think the negative emotions are realistic. Even though I'm not 100+ pounds over weight, just being 30+ has severely wrecked my self-esteem. I find myself getting extremely jealous/envious of women who have had children and still manage to keep slim figures. Whereas, for me at 26---my body reflects that I could have had 2 by now.

I also get anxious about the expectation to keep the weight off if and when I ever lose it. Im so use to my spare flub and chunky legs/arms that I've grown use to using it as a "security blanket" that gives me justification when I get rejected or things dont go my way, cause I can always blame my "fat" as being the culprit.

But I do think it's important to realize this as self-defeating behavior, negative self-talk. As one poster said, no one force fed you those greasy/fattening foods. You played a MAJOR if not the entire role in your weight gain, so you have to take that accountability and CHOOSE to be better.

I choose to over-power my cravings, because I refuse to let a craving be stronger than me. I choose to get up and walk 6 miles everyday, because I don't want to be defeated come this time next year and I'm still the same size or worse. I choose to stop beating myself up for past negligence to my health. I can't get those years back or erase all those bad choices in food I made or the lack of exercise. All I have is NOW. And that's what I choose to optimize.

Hello smwhipple!!

Thanks for the advice!! And honestly, I've always been a walker. I think sometimes there is misconception that overweight people or out of shape people, never have been in shape or fit. And I fit in the latter catergory. I was very active all through highschool and the first two years of college. so running, dancing, working out was never unfamiliar to me. But somewhere between my junior and senior year in college and these last 4 years, post-college---I have let myself go. So, the walking is just the tip of the iceberg of what athletically I am really capable of doing. But the first week I started walking---my body REACTED. I was exhausted and I hurt all over. My thighs, calves, bum and everything was sore. But now---2 weeks in, my body is remembering what it use to be like to be in shape and is adjusting. So now, I'll have to step it up by incorporating a little more intense cardio sessions in the late evenings and weekends to challenge myself. It's always about challenge. Thanks again!!!

Thanks Claud, themassageguy and agaffka!!! I sincerely appreciate ALL of your advice and will heed it. And WOW Agaffka---First---Congrats on such a big loss!! We sound like twins, because I too---despise running. I was daydreaming as I walked to work this morning, and I came to the conclusion that at my most healthiest and lowest weight (113 lbs.) I was dancing which is something I LOVE---and everytime, I think about that or walking or other exercises---they don't seem like exercises not because they are effortless, because trust me---walking uphill terraines can get intense---but I enjoy those things. Whereas I have never liked running. I use to run track as a child and I get butterflies right now thinking about the dreadful run and being out of breath. But I do think incorporating some intense cardio with my walking will get the pounds off more consistently.

Hey Sweens!!

You know, there is a lot of truth to what your saying. This guy I use to date ages ago---who was 42 (I know...lol) but he was in top notch shape. Better body than most 22 year old men I've seen. And he always told me, running would melt my fat right off. He was a avid runner who trained for marathons and got up every Saturday and ran for about 7-8 miles. I never understood his discipline or sheer love for running, but it has rings truer than ever now. So, though i hate getting out of breathYell---I know the end results will be worth it. I think I'll start with intervals, incorporating short sprints into my daily walks. Then on the weekends, I'll run for but an hour on the treadmill. Thanks for advice and encouragment!!!

Thanks ocarina!! Congrats to you for your success. I soooo look forward to the day, when I can also say "I use" to be chunky too---but I'm not there. Yeah, I find that walking/intervals has been the ONLY consistent exercise I can stay with. Whenever I try to do too many difficult workouts, I burn out easily. So, I guess consistency and persistency is the name of the game. Thanks for the encouragement!!!

Thanks again GI-Jane. And I think you're exactly right. Because I am evenly fat all over...lol. Sometimes, I wish I was a true pear and only carried the weight from the bottom half down, but I am a true apple mixed with an hourglass. I carry my weight primarily in my stomach but also evenly distributed. So I think you're on it. Once, I drop these 30+ pounds, a leaner silohuette will be waiting under all this excess fat.

Motivation How EXTREME and DETERMINED are you TO LOSE? I need an EXTREME MOTIVATOR!! May 11 2009

Welcome All!!

Thanks for the encouragement and feedback. Well today starts the second week, that I'll be hauling it to work by foot (with the help of the transit system) I can already feel and SEE the difference. Last week, I was huffing and puffing just to get up hills and feeling exhausted by the time I got home and  today, I barely got out of breath, which just inspires me to speed my pace up or even start intervals. I'm also gonna start this home workout in the evenings, which will consist of lunges, jump-squats, regular squats and floor crawls. I read that this workout is KNOWN to target belly fat and tone legs, along with it being good cardio. And on the weekends, I'll be jogging moderately on the treadmill for bout an hour on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I have significantly cut back on my alcohol intake, which not only makes me feel better the morning after---but I honestly am losing my flare to even want to drink. I have exactly about a month (4 weeks) to go until my prospective goal date and even if the difference isn't seen in pounds loss on the scale, I can already SEE the leaner more shapely body taking form. I think I'm going to start focusing my diet on more leaner proteins and veggies and reduce my carb intake to maybe 50-80 grams daily. I really want to work on Trimming this excess body fat I have in my middle section, arms and thighs and I know carbs just aid in their thickness. Have a Happy Diet and Fitness week everyone!!!!!Laughing

Also, I wanted to say---I know that my personality will come off very aggressive and assertive. I am a very driven and outspoken woman. I always have been with EVERYTHING so weight loss will be no different. But I don't want to miscontrue my struggles, as they are exactly that. Me creating this topic was to help motivate others but motivate myself as well. That's why when I receive comments that are not adding anything positive to my mission---I address them as such. I'm not physic. I very well may not lose anymore weight before June 10th, but what would be the difference in the outcome except my attitude? I've spent years, whining and moaning about being over weight. And getting discouraged and losing tempo shortly after I get all riled up to make something happen, only to let a naysayer or some "statistic" stifle my determination. I'm not prentending I have all the answers, I'm just hoping that some of my motivation will rub off on others and push them a little further than they were before and vice versa. So what if it takes me 5 more years to get completely where I want to be. I know that atleast I have the RIGHT attitude RIGHT NOW to keep me going and that's been my whole point. Sometimes, the main reason people struggle with weight is because they can't accept where they are and they also BEAT themselves up so bad, that it's seems impossible to ever reach. There is so much power in positive affirmation. Which is why, the trite saying has so much truth:

"If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all."
