I too love the spray marjarine. And sometimes I sprinke Tobasco or spicy wing sauce on it. yummmmy. I pour some unpopped popcorn in a brown lunch bag and fold it's end over so it won't come open. Then I place it in the microwave, and viola' .... perfect popcorn, with none of those nasty chemicals and too much sodium of the so-called "microwave popcorn." |

| Weight Loss | How do I set my mother straight? | May 26 2009 20:08 (UTC) |

It really sounds to me like there is more going on here than a conversation about weight loss. It sounds like you feel discounted by your mom by her comments. Maybe that is a pattern with the two of you. If so, I would make my weight loss ONLY my business. I would absolutely agree about being vague and avoiding the topic. If she speaks to you like that on other subjects, you may want to calmly address with her, how it makes you feel. Hopefully, she will say that she had no intention of making you feel unheard, or even insulted. I have a suspicion that she says that because she doesn't know what to say. In the past, my weight was such a loaded subject that I don't think anyone could say the right thing to me. It truly sounds like an honest miscommunication. Take a deep breath, it may not be what you think it is. And remember, mom's are flawed humans, just like we are. Maybe you could try talking to her in a gentle, non-defensive way. Just my two cents... |

I have it! Intead of bread, you can eat corn tortillas. They also sell g.f. bread in the freezer in health food stores. It's pretty good if you warm or toast it. Not so good out of the bag. Also, all vegies, fruits, meats, fish. Just check the labels on EVERYTHING. There is very good gluten free pasta available. Look on the web, there are gluten free food lists. Also, err on the side of safety. If a label says "seasonings" don't eat it. Many seasonings can contain gluten. Also, call the 800 number on the package of food. For instance, if you thought Quaker rice cakes would be safe...they are NOT. The are made in the same factory as their wheat products, and cross contamination can make you just as ill. Also, lip products...lip stick, lip balm must be checked. Chapstick HAS gluten, Burt's Bees does not. If you have Celiac disease, and not just a sensitivity, you will feel better almost immediately. And if you accidentally get some gluten, you will know it. I have gotten splitting headaches, and sweats, and vomiting when I got some by accident. It sounds like an aweful way to live but it really isn't. It is a chance for your body to heal itself and work more efficiently. |
