Weight Loss Plateau since May :( Jun 30 2009

I have heard a lot of people say, in times where you reach a plateau that the best thing to do is to stay consistent. Consistent with your eating habits and exercises and eventually the body will shed the pounds. I try to keept this in mind myself if and when I reach my plateau which will be kinda of hard because for some reason I can't bring myself to buy a scale. The only way I know that I've lost weight is because my clothes are at lot looser. Yay! I agree with dkenworthy, maybe you body has reached its limit. You have to listen to your body.

Boy did I mess up last night.  Went to go visit with my wife's maid of honor from our wedding and her husband.  Haven't seen thim in almost 15 years.  We had a great time...but I ate things that I shouldn't have.  I had three pieces of pizza, along with 2 cocktails.  I did use Diet Coke in my drink vs the great tasting regular Coke.  But when I got home, I stept on my scale before I got into bed, like I usually do, and found that I went UP 2 pounds.  I was very discouraged.  But I had such a good time.  And...OMG did that pizza taste good!!!!!!!!

I'm getting back on track today.  Gonna watch what I eat today and definately get down to the station to work out tonight.  Maybe I can get that two pounds, and then some, off again.

UGH!!!!!

No worries. It's a learning process and we're human. Treat yourself from time to time. Just be mindful and/or work off your excess calories.  As long as you continue to get up when you fall...you're going to do just fine. I love your motivation and your enthusiasm. Just remember it's a journey and not a race.

Hi joditiki,

I'm 5'6 sw 237 (when I last checked) cw 236. I don't have a scale. I know....shame on me. I gained my weight after I married my husband 6 years ago and I've entertained the thought many of times to loose weight. Now after educating myself, the fear of getting diseases associated with being obeased and the oh so painful plantar fasciitis...I thought...enough is enough. I'm up to 6 to 7 bottles of water now and I've completely changed my eating habits which is still work in progress. I would love to join. I'm trying to get down to 135 by next August. I think that's a good time. I got to get me a scale. Laughing

Motivation Ho do you make yourself go to the gym? May 27 2009

i know there are all kinds of tricks to getting to the gym. I love how creative you all have been in your stories.

however, this is just like anything else. We cant lose weight just because we wanna look good. We cant go work out cause we wanna look good. We can do mental gymnastics to try to propell us there. But it will not last.

Even if we muster up the will to goto the gym, sooner or later we will stop going. Its like anything else. Most of us do what we ENJOY.

we all enjoyed eating -lol.  We need to find  a joy in a new lifestyle that has to be permanent or it will not last. If we have to 'con' ourselves to goto the gym, we find no pleasure in it at all except the CHORE of losing the weight and this SUPER BOD dancing around in our heads.

There are 100 other ways to get active and keep fit. Which ones do we remember doing? Do that. Do it for the love of it -not the CHORE of losing the blub.

Sadly, i know from personal experience the agony of losing all the weight, all to gain 25 of it back. There is very little point of going thru all this hassle if we are just gonna wait till we look good then revert back to our old habits.

In fact, its better for me just to concentrate how much better i feel from my new diet and lifestyle. Regardless of the other fringe benefits of losing weight are. I want to permanently change so i can live longer and be heathy. I NEVER ever want to carry around this huge 'bag o blub' on my body ever again.

The great bod and the other obvious fringe benefits that go along with this lifestyle will tag along, dont worry.

Well done, tomdavie. This understanding and some other factors was what I was missing and ultimately it has kept me from losing weight. It has to be about a healthier you FIRST...then a great looking you AFTERWARDS. You just have to put the hard work in and it doesn't have to be done in a gym. Gym's are not for everyone anyway. Gym's are for prospectors anyway in my opinion. You have to get in shape just to go to the gym. LOL. There's plenty that you can do on your own and most of all....it's free and you're not so stationary (in so many words) like you would be on the stair stepper at the gym. Mellyjohn, you don't sound all that convinced about the gym anyway. Save your money. Besides...you either want to go to the gym or you don't.

Motivation Help! The weekends are killing me! May 27 2009

Same boat here as well. I tend not to eat as much on the weekends. I've found, recently, that if I make it a personal challenage it tends to stick. Maybe you can challenge yourself on the weekends.  Based on what the experts say, it only takes two weeks to change a bad habit into a good habit. I've just finished a two week "drink nothing but water" challenge. I'm up to 6 or 7 (1-pt.) bottles a day now and I don't crave any soda's, kool-aid, etc. And, my skin is looking a little better too. Pick something small (because you have to start slowly or it won't work) like...no steak for 3 weeks. Then have a steak maybe - one time - during the forth week. I say this because you have to feed the body what it likes but you don't have to over indulge it. If you take it completely out of your diet - all of a sudden - you're going to crave and over eat.  Your reward after the challenge...a healthier you. It's worth a try.
