Yeah, it doesn't seem like there is much presence/response from the folks that run the board here.  I'm sure that many have asked for this.

Exactly what I'm talking about.  I lost a 1/2 pound this past week and I want to see if my calorie deficit was right on for that weight loss.  Or maybe not...

Hello Ladies!  Well, I was here in April for the first few pages, but there wasn't much action, so I stopped posting.  That also means that I stopped paying as much attention to this site.  I'd like to come back and get back on the wagon, so to speak.  I originally started April 25th at 162 lbs, with a goal weight of 148 lbs.  I got down to about 160, then I headed back up when I was on vacation.  I was up to 169.5!  Almost back in the 170s, which I had vowed never to be again (unless I got pregnant or something).  That was in mid-July.  Since then, I've lost again and I'm down to 159.5.  So, that's a big accomplishment.  To refresh my stats here, I'm 5'10" and 26 years old (1 more month).  I'm looking to lose weight especially so that I will be as healthy as possible next year when my DH and I start TTC.  I have joint and back issues that I'm trying to lessen before I get on that path.  Anyway, here is my info and I will weigh in today too.

SW - 162

CW - 159.5

GW - 148

So, not too bad.  Looks like I'm about 11.5 lbs away from my goal.  I'm hoping to get there by mid-December.

My 9 year old was studying the 50 states and capitals.  She ran out of her room and said "Mom!  I can't find Canada on this list!"

My then 6 year old DD was telling me about her trip to the zoo.  She said that the best thing she saw were the Bamboos.  She ment baboons.

My 7 year old (then 6) told me and my 10 year old (then 8) that her teacher was having a baby.  My 8 year old asked what she was having.  My 6 year old responded, "A baby!  Duh!"

Dang it! I haven't lost a thing.  I suppose I should be grateful since I was away this weekend for a wedding and I certainly wasn't exercising or counting calories.  Just being lazy and enjoying my visit with my family.

SW - 162;  CW - 162;  GW - 148

I just have to make sure that I don't start telling myself that I'm not losing because I'm not supposed to. :)  Easy to trick yourself sometimes!

Congrats to everyone losing!  It's tough, but we're doing it.

Weddingmama - Well, I found out that I do have a tear in the cartilage in my hip.  I now have an appointment with the surgeon at the end of this month to discuss my options.   Should be interesting.

I agree that starvation mode is often overused, but I don't necessarily discount it.  I read a medical article about a year ago(which of course, now that I want to post it, I can't find it anymore) that detailed where the 1200 number comes from.  The concept was that the heart requires X amount of calories in a day to function properly, the brain requires X amount, the lungs, etc...

So, perhaps this "starvation mode" comes from the concept that if your organs need a minimum of 1200 calories or so in a day to function properly, if you are getting less than that, your body may be unable to function properly, so it hangs onto extra stuff (i.e. fat) to make sure that the brain/heart/etc can work properly later.

I would definately agree that at some point you would have to change things up to avoid plateaus.  Your body adjusts to exercise and calorie levels to create a balance and unless you shake up the status quo, you won't really see results.  So, I don't look at plateaus as doing something wrong, but rather that I need to change what I'm doing now that my body has adjusted to a certain routine.

Ok, I'm going to be travelling all day tomorrow, so I weighed in today.

SW:  162     CW:  161.5    GW:  145

So, I'm down 1/2 lb.  I had hoped for more, but...  What can you do?  I'm just going to keep up the efforts of eating right and moving more and hope I'm rewarded for it on the scale.

kkmc - I'm going to speak for everyone and say that there is always room for one more tall chick!  Welcome!

sheebz - So in just about 4 months, you lose 26 lbs!?  That's fantastic.  I too suffer from a lack of motivation sometimes, but we can definately find some support here.  I can't imagine being 134, though.  For me that would be nuts.  I think your goal of 150 or 145 is healthy goal--it's the same as mine.  However, I always reserve the right to reevaluate. :) Keep up the good work and you will get there.

Weddingmama - First of all, congratulations on making the best choice.  One of the things I've learned is that we can still have the foods we want as long as we make the best choice and are willing to work for those calories!  Well, the MRI was miserable, but I have to wait a while longer for the results.  I will see my doctor toward the end of May and go from there.  I don't know whether I'm hoping for it to show a tear in the cartiledge or not.  On one hand, a tear may mean surgery, on the other hand, no tear will mean that we still don't know what the problem is.  Just knowing what the problem is can make a big difference to my peace of mind.

Happy Monday everyone!

Hopefully we all stayed on track for the weekend and didn't get tempted too much.  Well, I know I haven't lost any weight in a while, but I checked my inches on Saturday and I've lost about 1 inch since February.   It would have been more, but my legs have gotten bigger now that they have some more muscle.  I usually get discouraged when I don't see movement on the scale, but adding the inches into the equation makes me feel a lot better.

I made my husband go lift weights with me last night and get on the recumbent.  I did 30 minutes of intervals and then another 10 minutes on flat, cool-down "terrain."  I have to go to a wedding in another state this weekend, so it will be difficult for me to stay on track.  I'm committed though!  I'll need to weigh in Thursday instead of Friday because I'm flying out that morning.

Cheers everyone,

A

Ok, I'm 5'10" and 162 lbs.  I'm 26 years old.  My fitness goals are to do cardio 3 x week for 30 minutes, at least.

Like others have said, our weight loss doesn't really show as much as others because we are so tall.  The same is true for weight gain.  I get annoyed when I say I want to lose 15 lbs or so and people tell me that I don't need to lose weight.  I have begun telling them that they don't know what I look like naked and that they should trust me that I do need to lose a few more lbs.  That usually gets them.

My goal weight is 145 lbs (or so, depending on whether or not I like what I see when I reach 155, 150, and 145).  I'm concentrating mostly on whether or not I'm satisified with my shape (mostly want to ditch the belly and fat around my hips).

ETA:  My goal isn't quite 20 - 30 lbs, but I'm hoping you folks won't hold it against me.  Right now it's about 17 lbs.

vicereine - that's pretty funny.  Do you have any tips for losing weight that you could share?  Since we are so similar, we might be able to learn from each other.  When I weighed 178 lbs and lost about 15, I don't have a clue what I did to make that happen!  It just happened.  Maybe it was my diet, but I don't have a clue.  I just started losing weight.  It bottomed out at around 161, but I couldn't say why.  Now, I'm actively trying to lose weight, so I'm sure it will be a pain in the butt.  I'm going to make it happen though!  I turn 27 in October and I'm hoping to reach my final fitness/weight goal by then, at the latest.

kristinedaqueen - Looks like everyone is on holiday!

Well, happy Friday to everyone!  I'm at 162 this morning, but I kinda fluctuate from 161 - 162.  I had a medical proceedure on my hip done yesterday, so I'm taking it easy for a few days.  I'll just have to watch my diet more carefully until I can work out again.

jynx and weddingmama - Super congrats on your progress!  Great job!

I had to have an MRI on my hip yesterday and they injected dye into the hip joint, so I'm going to have to take it easy for a few days.  I normally bike for about 30 mins on my recumbant bike, but I'll have to hold off for a few days until the tenderness goes away.  I'm just going to focus more on my diet for a few days.

I would love to join this group.  My current weight is 162 and my goal is about 145-150.  I just began working out seriously again and paying attention to what I'm eating.  I'm mostly concerned with losing fat and not obsessed with the lbs exactly.  I checked my inches a few months ago and I will be concentrating mostly on losing inches.

I don't know that I'll be able to get down to my goal weight by July, but I'm certainly looking to try.

3/4 sleeves rock!  They do sit right about elbow length on me too though.  As far as jeans are concerned, I think American Eagle is great for me.  Their normal length is about a 33" inseam, with tall sizes about 36".  I have always said that a chain that catered to tall women--INCLUDING SHOES--would rake in the bucks.

I'm 5'10" and currently 161 lbs, down from 178 or so.  I have a rather slender, boyish frame with basically no butt or hips, so my goal of 145-150 isn't so small for me.  I have broad shoulders though.  After I lost about 15 lbs, my friend who I hadn't seen in a long time said I looked willowy.  I can deal with willowy!  What I can't deal with is my belly.  That's my problem area, like most women.  What's funny is that everyone is throwing around the word Amazon and that's actually part of my email address--Amazon Hunter.

Vicereine--We are about the same.  I agree that although they say I have a small frame, I'm by no means as slight as the skinny gals I see.  We are also around the same weight, with a similar target.

I'm 5'10", cw: 162; gw: 145.

I have 145 as my goal weight, but I'm not really obsessed with the number.  I feel like I could lose another 15 lbs or so and still be healthy, but health is the number one concern for me.  I do plan on lifting some light weights in addition to my time on my recumbant bike, so if I gain muscle (which is very easy for me) then I won't cry about the number on the scale.

I lost about 15 lbs about a year ago, coming down from about 175.  I've since been working on my master's and some other stuff, so I haven't been as dedicated or active as before.  I've just got back on board the train and looking to stay motivated.  Now that I'm eating healthier (only for the last 2 weeks or so) and working out, it seems like I'm putting on some weight. It could just be because I'm drinking more water.  Those scales just like to mess with you.

ngibson,

I agree that it can help sometimes.  Walking is a great thing!  I can't run so I think that is great.  This time last year I was fluctuating between 172-175.  I didn't really start trying to lose weight until earlier this year and since I have lost about 12 lbs.  I think the key is what you said "The 160's are right around the corner."  I go for 1/2 lb at a time to keep me on track.  It's worked pretty well so far.  You WILL get there!  Keep up the great work!

Ok, I fell off the train for a few months, but now I'm back on and happy to report that I'm right around 161, from 169!  I don't think I've been this light in several years!  I still have more to go, but I thank everyone for sharing their stories and struggles to keep me motivated.  Thanks!!!

I see many people here are lacking in motivation like I do sometimes.  I also lack will power at times.  Here are some tricks that have worked for me for motivation.  I do get on the scale everyday in the morning, but only because it doesn't make me obsessed.  I think it keeps me focused.  I also set goals of 1/2 lb.  I do this because like some programs say "one day at a time" I think of it as 1/2 lb at a time.  I think that breaking it down into manageable goals of a 1/2 lb keeps me from getting frustrated.

A few years ago I came across a picture of a woman standing on a rock with her arms raised with the ocean splashing up behind her.  I really liked this picture just for the scenery, but also because she looked so relaxed and fit.  That picture has served to motivate me to both achieve my fitness goals and some sort of serenity (as corny as that sounds).

As far as will power goes, I make sure that I have some vanilla yogurt and cottage cheese in the refrigerator at work so that if I get hungry I can eat a little of that and still be on track for calories.  I tried carrot sticks and fruit, but they never filled me enough.  I need more protein.  Also, I love dark chocolate.  For this I buy the hershey's miniatures so that when I have a craving (almost everyday) I can have a few pieces and I haven't sabotaged myself.  I LOVE food, but I find that these few little tricks keep me from going crazy.

I also really can't stand to drink water.  A lot of people say that water is filling and good for you.  While I recognize that it is good for you, I still hate it.  I feel that it actually makes me feel hungry.  Green tea, however, is something that I really like that allows me to intake water while drinking something I like.  I keep my coffee cup and tea bags next to my keyboard at work so that it is easily accessible.

I have several injuries so I know how hard it is to keep motivated, but I hope that some of these things help.

I once met a physical therapist who said that flutter kicks were what kept him employed.  In the Army they are frequently used, but if you don't perform them properly (especially for women) it can cause tremendous lower back and hip strain.   Really concentrate on form.
