Young Calorie Counters Looking for a Weight loss Friend!!! Jun 01 2009

don't be discouraged!  i had a horrible weekend as far as food goes!  had a wedding, went out for dinner a few times, drank a little bit, was too tired to workout...it happens.  i think its pretty much impossible to commit 100% to weight loss and still lead a normal life.

i think your emphasis should be on the fact that you are getting healthier.  you said you can run farther, lift more weight, and are eating breakfast every morning.  those are definitely accomplishments to be proud of!

i have a bad tendency to diet hardcore and work out tons for like 2 weeks and lose 3 pounds then in the next few weeks i get sick of dieting and working out and i gain it all back.

if you are eating healthy when you can, working out when you can, and still maintaining an active social life then don't worry if the weight loss is slow.  even if it takes you a year to lose 10 pounds that is probably 10 pounds that you will never see again because you are losing in a sustainable manner!:)

Weight Loss sharing food with roommates May 30 2009

i don't share food with my roomates except for condiments- ketchup, mustard, butter, etc.  the only reason we share those is because there are 4 of us sharing a fridge and space is limited so it really doesn't make sense to have 4 separate jars of mustard.

what about veggies and dip?  i was getting sick of packing salads for lunch and i love baby carrots, celery, cucumber, and low-cal dip.

also, i have been making pasta salad with 1/2 serving of whole wheat pasta and a ton of veggies- chopped carrots, celery, cucumber, broccoli, tomato, asparagus, etc.  even though i put in wayyyy more veggies than pasta, it still feels like i'm eating pasta salad, and not lettuce salad.

i have some friends who use Weight Watchers and i know that the more fibre that a food has, the fewer points it is.

for example:

a 100 calorie piece of bread with no fibre may be 2 points while a 100 calorie piece of bread with 3 grams of fibre is one point.  so if a person is allowed to eat 25 points worth of food each day then they can definitely consume more calories if they eat low fat, high fibre foods.

you have had incredible weekly weigh ins allibee!!!

i'm down 2 pounds this week..134! i'm really excited about this!

my boyfriend has started jogging with me a few nights each week which is awesome because he never complains about how slow i run but we're a little bit competitive so it pushes me to run that extra 5 minutes.  last night we ran for over an hour without stopping!!:)

Weight Loss knee injury messed up my progress May 21 2009

I had meniscus and ACL surgery a few months ago (soccer injury).  I definitely didn't lose any weight for 2 months after surgery, but I also didn't gain any.  After surgery I pretty much had no appetite thanks to the pain meds so this might work to your advantage.

Immediately after surgery if you're on crutches I found that having to walk with crutches is a workout in itself.  Are you planning on doing physiotherapy?  my physio now is pretty much equal to a gym workout (cycling, lunges, jumping, running, etc.).

Best of luck with everything and try to focus on healing moreso than losing weight:)

i totally get what you mean.  i do it more day-to-day than weekly though.  like some people eat exactly 1300 calories/day regardless of how much activity they do.  my job is different everyday so some days i can be sitting at a computer for 8 hours, while other days i'm literally running around for 8 hours.  also some days i go for a 45 minute run while other days i don't work out at all.  i just try to maintain a 500-800 calorie deficit each day, and then that gives me some room to indulge a little bit on weekends.

eek that's a tough one!  as much as i say i want any guy i've ever dated to be happy, it always sucks when you see them happily moved on with another woman.  i'm sure you're a stronger person for it though.

best of luck!

congrats to both you and allibee!!! that is fantastic!!

i'm at 136- technically didn't lose any weight this week but i was really good with my eating and i worked out 6 days...it is that time of the month though so i'm going to blame that for the lack of weight loss.

i like gin with club soda and a wedge of lime.

i also kind of created my own whiskey sour recipe.  i made a sort of homemade lemonade with water, lemon juice and splenda (im sure any of those calorie-free sugar substitutes would work)

pretty much any un-flavoured clear alcohol mixed with either diet pop or low calorie juice like Crystal Light is probably your best bet.

i'm totally self conscious as well!  i'm not that heavy but i'm always paranoid that i'm breathing really heavy because i listen to my ipod really loud so i can't hear myself panting.  i also hate running with shorts on because they always get hiked up and i feel like everyone is looking at my thighs jiggling.

is running at night an option for you?  i'm fortunate enough to live in a friendly small town so running in the evenings doesn't really pose any safety issues for a young woman.  i also prefer running at night because the temperature is much cooler and i never have to contend with the sun in my eyes or wearing sunglasses.

seriously though, we shouldn't let others bother us! we are the ones out running and trying to improve ourselves!

i have also heard about people doing this but i have never tried it myself:

taking a can of diet pop (i feel like orange pop or cream soda would be good for this) and freezing the pop and eating it as a frozen treat/popsicle.  i'm assuming you would have to pour the pop into an open container first to avoid an explosion disaster.  this definitely lacks any sort of nutritional value but it would be calorie-free if done with diet pop!

this evening i melted 25 chocolate chips (10 grams) (50 calories) in a bowl in the microwave with a few drops of water and then i poured it over a plate of fresh strawberries (approx. 30 calories)

heavenly!!!

congrats one 1 pound allibee!  better than nothing right?

(by the way this is amy as in the old soccerlover2)- and oprah would say i kind of well of the banwagon and i'm back to my original weight so instead of changing all my information with my old account i just deleted it as i felt the need to start fresh.

Weight: 136

back to square one:(.  not completely devastated though.  i'm really bad for eating very very little for 2 weeks and losing like 4 pounds, and then gaining it all back the following two weeks by bingeing.  i'm trying to find a balance where i'm still losing weight but not depriving myself to the point where i can only continue with the diet for 2 weeks.  i've set some more realistic goals where i'm losing weight more slowly and therefore not starving myself over short periods of time.

slow and stead wins the race right?
