| Weight Loss | Plateau since May :( | Jul 01 2009 16:39 (UTC) |
|
I hit a little plateau and instead of changing anything (I didn't see why I should because I was happy with the routine I was in) I just stopped for a few days, ate what I liked (not overboard though). Give yourself a mini rest. It might do the trick. |

Why not try gym classes rather than the cardio machines? (you can't leave!) As for the snacking... hmm... try fruit, dry cereals, chopped up veg, yoghurt, anything low cal really. Try to focus on your weight loss efforts. Think of how less stressed and more happy you'll naturally be when you've done your best and got nearer to your target weight. |

It's true you really can't spot reduce. What you could try is targeting your calves and tummy with firming lotion (or your regular favourite lotion) and some massage to encourage better circulation. I think it's all about the massage and the time you spend on it. Why not give it a try? Good luck! |

I don't tell my co-workers nothing... this reminds me of another thread. No one knows anything. A while from now when I've lost more weight - if anyone were to ask 'have you lost weight?' i'd be way to ashamed to admit that I was a stone (14lbs) or so heavier. I'll probably have to just say, 'oh I don't think so, it's just the gym'. Or something. |

Ah, thanks gi-jane. Very usefull advice. Decided not to waste my money on the multivitamins and try to eat a more varied selection of veggies instead and I'm going to try eating a bigger breakfast some days (time is of the essence on a morning for me!! I will make the effort though). I'll take the tip on having a day at full calories. Should be good. Thanks for your advice! |

Thanks to all! I'm gonna avoid pasta as a lunch choice from now on I think. I was trying lots of water and moving about and it only helped a little. It was so warm too yesterday.

I can definitely say that it's something you should speak to your doctor about. I don't think it's something to be really concerned about but would be a good idea to get it checked out. Apparently, the bile we produce makes it green. As it passes through our intestines the friendly bacteria make it brown. If it's green it means it's passing through too quickly and the bacteria don't have a chance to process it. |

I feel the same way about mine. The thing is, they might poof out a bit at first (water retention for repair and healing apparently) but by the time your body loses the fat, they're gonna look a whole lot better if you keep up the training with them. |

Why not try a weight lifting style class? (I've heard of 'muscle mix' at one gym) They're good if you get bored easily. It might help to introduce yourself to weights. |

| Weight Loss | Not getting enough calories? | Jun 02 2009 15:32 (UTC) |

I think that sites (even this one) can only give an estimate on your calorie needs. You really have to find what works for you personally. I think this may even need tweaks along the way. I'd definitely try giving 1400 even 1500 cals a day a go. Try it for 2 weeks maybe. |

I don't know your stats (height, age, activity level etc) but I'm thinking that 1200 calories maybe a bit low. It's the bare minimum for females anyway. I don't think I could happily manage on 1200kcal. Sounds like very little food especially if you say you are exercising too. Again, I don't know what kinds of exercise activity you're including in your plan of attack. You might not exactly be in 'starvation mode' but quite possibly your body is less willing to shed the excess pounds if it thinks it's not getting enough to eat. Making it more difficult to lose the weight with your current methods. |

| Fitness | Sweat | Jun 01 2009 00:19 (UTC) |

I've got a different theory. If you're not sweating, you're not working hard enough! So I wrinkle my nose at people with perfectly quaffed hair and full makeup on in the gym. These people who don't sweat, don't look like they're trying. Each to their own I suppose though. As long as it's light and breathable and stretchy (and doesn't cause nasty heat rash) then it's good for me. |

| Motivation | Hurried, obsessed and anxious - oh my! | May 29 2009 14:36 (UTC) |

Thanks madamq I think I'm doing ok on eating enough to keep me satisfied and within my recommended calories. It's taking a bit of planning and calculating in advance to make sure I've got enough for lunch and snacks on gym days - but I'm getting the hang of it. But usually the day after an evening gym session I'm really hungry. Is this normal? I'm not usually hungry otherwise. I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. In some cases I'm eating more in comparisson to before. My deficits range from 400 cal to 800. (800kcal deficit is sometimes an accident when I've had a very active day and didn't quite calculate enough healthy snacks into my intake, It only happened once this week) I try to aim for 500 deficit. It usually does land about there. |

| Weight Loss | Ice Cream-How Much, How Often? | May 29 2009 11:32 (UTC) |

I usually just get ice-cream at the cinema. Single scoop is much more innocent on the calories. (Cheaper too! Save £s lose lbs) So I guess what I'm saying is, moderation! |

I went from 'i'm gonna have to lose weight' and not really doing anything about it to DOING something about it really quickly. It was like enough was enough really. I recommend everyone make a mission statement when they're starting out. Very useful. Good luck getting over the 'gonnas'! |

| Fitness | Something a fitness instructor should NOT say to their class... | May 26 2009 22:24 (UTC) |
11 |
Wow this has realllllly touched some nerves! I must say that alot of the instructors at my gym (the ones that teach the classes - can't really say much for the trainers who are on the gym floor with the machines etc) are really good at what they do. It's unfortunate that the staff as a whole are tainted by a few rotten apples! But yeh, as a member of the class you really pick up on what they're doing good and what they're doing badly. Especially if you're an enthusiastic and seasoned gym-goer. It makes a huge difference when they know their stuff. You feel like you're in the hands of pros. Which for the price I'm paying I should be! |

| Motivation | Are you "feelings" motivated or results/numbers motivated? | May 26 2009 14:29 (UTC) |

For me it's a bit of both I think. I want to look and feel good but the numbers on the scales can give a real all-day-buzz when they tell you what you've been waiting to hear. They let you know you've been doing something right the past week =) |

Original Post by novileigh: Normally those who do are the ones who need to lose weight but aren't motivated to put in the effort... Exactly. That kinda describes the instructor too. I always find it a bit of a mystery when the instructor isn't the picture of fitness themselves. It's lke they do the classes but don't really try? Or don't do any other exercise or eat loads. Either way I've met a few overweight gym instructors in my time at various gyms. Baffling. |

I was feeling the same recently. I tried a whole lot of different things to get 'things ticking along better - to put it nicely A good amount of fibre and water Green leaves with lunch alot during the week Not eating too much food that will definitely slow things down like heavy carbs or junk. Find out what triggers it off for you. Making sure to eat enough food. Avoid eating too little food. Just the right amount. |
