I suck... I don't think I am going to make it for this race this year  -  I will try my best to get my time in in the next few days @ The gym!  I have been such a slacker!  DAMN HOLIDAYS!   (stupid excuse - I know!)

Good luck to all of the others out there!  :D

I have a really hard time with eating enough too -  I have been staying around 1200 cals or less, and working out almost every day - of course some days harder than others, and I have been stuck at the same weight.   I know it is because I am not eating enough.. so I am bumping up to around 1500 - to see if it helps.

I am not eating mindless calories of course, everything I add is either fruit or fiber or additional protiens.

Good luck!

The Lounge Anyone else NOT want to have children? Nov 28 2007

You are NOT alone, that is for certain.  TOO Many people have children for all of the WRONG reasons!

My fiancee and I are happy and child free and we will be staying that way!    He has had "THE" operation, and let me tell you it is so nice not having to pop a pill everyday or worry about the "accidental" pregnancy!

Anyhow - We are both in our mid 30's and feel that there is NO reason anyone should feel bad about NOT having children!

I could go on for days about this topic - but I digress so not to bore you all!  :D

Happy lives to all of you who are child-free!  It's the WAY to go!!
Weight Loss Sodium Nov 28 2007

Thanks for all of the info!  I have found that alot of the fat-free items that I eat have high sodium counts, so I may opt for a more normal fat product (of course still watching the fat content) and less sodium.. I drink tons of water, however not sure about my potassium intake, so I think I will try to work on boosting that up.

I am figuring too much sodium - water retention - no weight loss.

And I do not have any BP issues, infact my BP is usually very low.  (Maybe why I normally crave salty stuff!!)

Thanks again for the info!

I am really curious about this question too -  I know that everyone is different - but is there an average amount (grams?) of how much sodium is ok to eat in a day?    I think my numbers of sodium are really high... but I usually have an A for my daily food analysis...

Any suggestions, ideas, averages?  Please,  tell us about sodium!!

You should never eat less than 1200 calories a day, especially if you are working out as much as you are.   Trust me, I have a huge issue with eating more = losing more but if you are working out alot you have to make sure you are fueling yourself enough..

If you do not eat enough and work out alot your body will go into starvation mode and start storing fat..

Try bumping up your calories to at least 1200 for a week include a few more carbs and watch your sodium intake as well as your sugar and fats..     as Roy stated, also get measured, because measurements are way more accurate than the scale usually is.. trust me, I have had a very hard time with this as well, but be patient with your body and be sure to give it what it needs.. also, make sure you are taking a mutli vitamin - it helps!

Weight Loss Weekly Weigh in? Jan 30 2007

I am not a doctor or anything, but I have read many articles that suggest that weighing yourself everyday is not necessary, and also that if you do it too often you may be counter-productive, as in the fact that if you get on every day and it has fluctuated one or two pounds it may make you mad or want to eat less, etc..  which if you are already watching your calories and exersising then eating less may not help.   Your weight can fluctuate daily.. especially if you are female and around "that" time of the month.  Water retaining etc also comes into play.

Weighing first thing in the morning, at the same time every day after going to the bathroom is the best..    I myself weigh once a week, (maybe twice if I feel the need) but it will always be at the same time and it won't be more than every 3 days...

I hope that helps, and good luck!   We are all in this together!!  It's not easy!

Weight Loss Calories In V.S Calories Out - Proper Caloric Deficits May 31 2006

Coachdee...
Great insight here!
I am sure my question has been posed before, but here goes..
I have been working with a personal trainer, been in and out of gyms for a good portion of my life (I am now 35).  Had the Body Gem (metabolic rate test) performed and found out I need to eat almost 1800 cals I day to loose weight.
I have been trained in the brain to starve myself.. and in going on this plan, it was supposed to help me loose weight 2 lbs a week, with my proper eating, my normal fitness routine and my metabolism.
In the first few weeks, I did well, lost like 5lbs...  and now I have gained a couple back, and have not changed anything..   I have shrunk in clothing size, but the weight numbers do not show it.   My trainer told me its because I am gaining muscle mass and it weighs more than fat.   To me, that is crap because I don't want to weigh more, I want to lose 30lbs!

The only thing I can see that I might do wrong is that I work nights and have a crazy schedule and don't sleep more than 5 to 6 hrs a day, sometimes less... someone told me that if I dont get enough sleep I may not lose weight.. is this true?

How can I start losing again!  I don't want to be bulky, I want to drop 30lbs.. it has been a lifelong goal, and for once I am doing it right and its STILL not working!

HEEELLP!!!
Thanks!

I too have a hard time eating the 1700 calories I was told to eat.. since prior to that I was getting 900-1100 a day at most..  and my brain thinks that I should STOP eating, I understand the science of it all, but its the mental thing that is hard to get past..  the thinking that is instilled in you that if you starve yourself you will lose weight..

Ah how hard it is to EAT!  ;)

my 2 cents.. also if she is young and her friends are, they are most likely sucked up into the new "anorexic thin is in.."
I recently found out there is this new trend in young women.. they actually applaud anorexia...   that is disturbing and immoral to me, but it is REAL..    but anorexia is a REAL disease that can do much more to you than make you skinny..

Back to the subject at hand..  Lanicita said it all...   :)

Thanks!  I know I shouldn't weigh myself so often, its just disheartening when this "program" I am on tells me to eat so much, and that I should lose 2lbs a week, and then I don't...    errrrr...

But thanks for the suggestions! :D

Good luck in your healthy eating too!

I too have the weight fluctuation you speak of and it is so frustrating.. one day down 3lbs 2 days later up 4lbs..  it makes no sense!!
Why does our weight fluctuate so much??

It really makes it hard sometimes to be positive, especially when you bust your ass at the gym, eat right and do everything the way you are "Supposed" to.    My only saving grace is that my clothes are fitting way loose and I can tell in some ways that I have shrunk... but the NUMBERS don't match up..  and I swear if I hear these words from my trainer again  "Muscle Mass weighs more than fat"...  I will VOMIT..

I don't care if it weighs more, I am doing this to LOSE weight, not gain!!!!!

:(

Sorry for the rant!  Thanks for listening!
