| The Lounge | How much anxiety is normal? | Jul 29 2009 11:39 (UTC) |
4 |
this is weird cuz i've been having worse anxiety than normal lateley. i've had panic attacks everyday for a little more than a week now, and it's been really hard for me to do normal things (text my boyfriend, decide what to eat, do my homework, call anyone to hang out with). i seem to overthink everything, and end up doing absolutely nothing (literally in bed in the fetal position) and if i do do something, i still freak out untill the situation works out (if it doesn't work out...). oh yeah and i can't sleep (explains why i'm posting this at 3:30 am). i go to a pshchologist and that helps a bit (yay for insurance paying for that), she said that i just have anxiety induced depression. but the thing that helps the most is medical marajuana (i live in california, so it's legal) it really just calms and sooths me, allows me to be happy, and is a miricle for sleep (seriously). only bad thing is than it makes you want to eat (tea helps) and that it's frowned on by a lot of people.... but seriously how is any other medication better?.... i haven't used any in about a month now, and i think that's why my anxiety/depression is getting worse again, but i'm trying to focus on a long-term solution aka psychologist |

wow i have a great story for this! my "best friend" (still a good friend but it's complicated as you will see) is the same height as me, 5'7" but she is about 95-98 pounds. not only is she SUPER skinny, but she is gorgeous. and she eats soooo much junk. she once put on my smallest pair of jeans (size 27... i think she is like24) and walked around my house saying "omg these are HUGE, LOOK at these on me, i really need to gain some weight"... another time, i bought a sweater for my mom and when i tried it on and asked her if it was cute, she said "yeah that looks great, it makes you look skinnier!" i basically vowed to lose weight, felt SUPER self concious all the time--- i was 133 pounds and 5'7" haha i looked fine, just a tiny bit bigger than my normal weight! then i got so annoyed that i stopped hanging out with her, and steppping back from her life i realized that she has a pretty bad life! she is annorexic (the ice cream she had for lunch would be the ONLY thing she ate all day)-- her boyfriend made her crepes for breakfast one morning, before he came over she ran 5 miles. she has an alcoholic father who she never sees and a rocky relationship with her mother. she is trying to be a model, but it's pretty much just a way to get people to compliment her looks. basically, i don't envy her anymore. and that makes it easier to be her friend (she is nice and fun, and people with problems need good friends)---- but the funniest thing about all this is that after i stopped worrying about looseing weight and hateing myself, i lost weight because i started taking better care of myself :)

oh! why didn't i think of this before! can you mix some protein or recovery power into one of your water bottles?-- that stuff is high in calories and nutrients-- can get kinda sticky/sweet so maybe one bottle of that stuff and one regular watter bottle? :) |

um if you have a biking specialty store by you i'm sure they would have some kind of powerbars thay are high in calories and compact to carry... trail mix is also high in calories and pretty small and healthy. this is a hard one because unless you are stopping every couple hours to eat you may have to carry everything. sounds like a fun ride though (luuuccckkkkyyyy)!!!! good luck!!! |

grrr i do NOT like my boobd i'm a 34 D. it's annoying when you want to wear a baggy shirt and it just looks like a tent and makes you look fat. or when i try on a cute top , and the boob area is way to small. or when i just want to run around with my friends---and my boobs bounce everywhere ad make me feel uncomfortable grrr big boobs i'm learning to live with them though, mostly because my boyfriend tells me how beautiful i am everyday-- haha good for the self esteem :) |

| Fitness | runners - advice needed | Jun 14 2009 01:31 (UTC) |
15 |
hi! i'm the captain of the girls cross country team at my highschool. we run everyday except for sundays. everyone had off days sometimes, but we try to prevent them by drinking tons of water. you should try to drink half your body weight in ounces everyday. also shoes are important- you need to replace your running shoes every 300-400 miles you run (and never wash or especially never dry them-- with a machine of course) getting enough sleep isn't really an issue the day after you didn't sleep enough, but the second day after! so be sure to sleep well for at least two nights before your race :) also eating after you run is important. especially for longer workouts. 30-60 minutes after you run, you should get some fuel (a bar or just a meal)-- this is especially important for runs over an hour long because you need to replenish your glycogen stores also as you train make sure to get enough iron-- your red blood cells need iron in order to carry oxygen |

cut an apple into pieces and microwave it untell it is hot and semi mushy. you can add spices (cinnamin, cloves) and sweetener (splenda ect. if you're not opposed to artificial stuff). it's yummy like this or with some kind of rice cake (i like carmel). or with vanilla yogurt |

| Young Calorie Counters | i'm fat because i used to do uppers and make myself throw up. | Jun 01 2009 06:40 (UTC) |

do what i did! first-- if you really did do uppers-- start running! i run about 3 miles a day, and it makes you feel GREAT. oh the endorphins :) just start off slow if you don't run. just a mile a day rest on sunday's... then move up to two miles when that feels good... then three... then whatever [jogging a mile burns off about 100 calories...in about 10 minutes!] second-- turn your love of food into a love of good food.--- i cook almost all of my meals so i can plan what i want to eat in the day and i can make it healthy and delicious... it's fun! |

aw poor runner girl! i wish you luck with your wisdom teeth. whatever you do--don't try to run just because you feel fine (of course you feel fine bc you are on vicodin) i tried to run with my team and ended up being sick all day with that lovely advice. mashed potatoes are so yummy! i just got a big microwave container of them (betty crocker?) and whenever i got hungry i ate some yum |

on my running team we sand facing a wall, a little bit away with feet shoulder width apart, and then do the toe raises (using the wall for balance) *warning-- we do these in small amounts since calves are fairly easy to strain |

hey girl! i know i'm not in college-- but i just went through my huge testing spree for this year (AP's, SAT's, ACT) and i gained weight through that whole thing. the only thing that helped me is to focus not so much on calories-- but on HEALTH i was just sooooooo stressed out, and focusing on calories was just one more thing to stress me out. and it seems like you like to be healthy... so carry a water bottle with you all the time (one with a pull top-- it helps you drink more without realizing it). eat oatmeal for breakfast with something in it other than sugar haha(fills you up!). i also would make my food myself, so that i could be excited about the yummy healthy things i could eat the next day for lunch hahaha (i understand this could be hard in college, but my sister does it so what the heck! i seriously craved sugar when i was stressed, and i found that the only thing that helped was actually NOT eating sugar. sounds weird, but once i started eating, i couldn't stop... then i would want something salty and so on. also, if you like to party on occasion like i do, i like to try to stick to one thing (like apples> great for munchies/cotton mouth) or diet soad (unhealthy, but no added calories) or subway--premade, filling, pretty healthy, not too high in calories for a 6" sandwich hope i helped a bit! |

| The Lounge | Medicating Kids | May 28 2009 06:10 (UTC) |
53 |
i know i am young, but i am the daughter of a elementary school teacher (5th grade, but the teachers all talk and the school is fairly small) and yes yes yes kids NEED medication. the children with ADD/ADHD problems are almost all medicated before 5th grade, and the teachers are very good at recognizing problems! kids aren't put on meds just for the heck of it-- the teacher that suspects a learning disability had to go throught an entire process (sorry i don't remember the exact name at the moment) of documenting the childs behavior and a series of meetings with the parents and the principal and the schools child psycologist (and this all has to be approved by the parents before it begins). the kids that aren't medicated that NEED it by 5th grade are not only hard for the teacher to deal with, but they frusturate themselves. most of these kids are so sweet and they despirately want to do good and be smart-- but they can't focus. and parents that won't medicate their children just because they don't believe in medication need to think of what is best for their kid! learning should be exciting and fun! not frustrating and near impossible! |

oatmeal! seriously-- it's the only thing that makes me feel ful in the morning (or afternoon haha) i've come up with some different varieties.. all with quaker oats (the kind in the big cylindrical container) and i put a measuring cup inside to do portion control 1/2 cup oats(dry),with cinnamin, cloves, and vanilla extract. microwave with 1cup water for 2.5 minutes then 1/2 cup of milk on top= about 200 cals 1/3 cup oats (when dry) then add a cooked scrambled egg and some seasoning (i love spike) = 170 ish calories so good so filling |

| Young Calorie Counters | How do I stop binging at night? | May 21 2009 04:14 (UTC) |

yeah i have this problem too-- especially since my house is pretty small so i do my homework at the kitchen table (ummmm in the kitchen) and on weekends i come home super late (12:30-1:00 ish) and the front door is practically in the kitchen the thinng that works for me when i'm doing my homework late is drinking hot decafinated chai tea, or hot good earth tea-- both are very strong tasting and spicy and no caffine and no calories. also-- a big discovery was when i start to think about food, i move my work to my bedroom--it's not a comfortable, but i'm not nearly tempted to eat as much when i come home late at night after a night of fun--i'm usually pretty tired and so i want to eat--so i tell myself before i go into my house (haha may sound funny) a bunch of positive things about how i'm going to just go straight to sleep. haha i'll think "yeah i'm just going to walk straight to my room, my bed is going to feel so cozy, i'm not going to pig out because then i will feel bad, if i just go to sleep now i can get extra sleep and wake up refreshed, i'm so awsome" hahaha it works! |
