Original Post by coach_k: :) Because I plan on using it to make hundreds of delicious chocolate truffles which I will hide and share with no one. I have a bit of a sweet tooth lol. I try not to judge people based on their shopping decisions, but I love trying to analyze their personalities with the few clues I'm given. When I was younger, I used to follow people through the mall for about 15 minutes at a time and deduct what I could about their psyche from the stores they visited and what they looked at or bought. I don't do that anymore though because I'm afraid I would be mistaken for a stalker and held up by mall security. I miss being a little kid... |

I don't think we should rip on her for her weight until we know her height. I'm a little over 4'11" and 105 pounds would put me at a healthy BMI of 21. That being said, if she's even a few inches taller than me, I'm editing my post to lay down some healthier guidelines... Niceoneman, cheat days are perfectly normal. Although at your age, assuming that 105 is a healthy weight for your height, you really shouldn't be concerned with counting calories at all. Live a little and have fun with your food while you have the chance! Even a little bit of junk food is okay to have every day, as long as you don't go completely overboard with it. There's no need to restrict the sweets if you're eating them in moderation. :) |

| Games & Challenges | November calorie deficit challenge (posting now open!) | Nov 02 2009 08:00 (UTC) |

This sounds like fun! I'm in. :) Name: Kat Challenge Starting Weight (11/1/09): 109 Goal Weight (12/1/09): 102 I'm doing the 7,000 deficit challenge. BIO: Well I'm really short (4'11") and my ultimate goal is 97 (where I was in May without restricting or overexercising or any of that crap). I started at 112 in August (darn those summer vacations... ;p ) and was down to 102 until about two weeks ago when my stress levels hit the roof and what do you know, I (very) quickly gained back to 112 again. I know some of it was water weight though because I am 109 pounds again as of today and I know I couldn't really have lost three pounds in two days eating as much crap as I have in these last few weeks... I know my deficit goal doesn't exactly match up with my weight loss goal for the month, but I think I have about another pound or two of water weight in me so I'm compensating, plus I'd have to undereat in order to have a higher deficit, although I do admit that I could exercise more (like, a lot more). My "official" goal for November is to lose what I gained in the last half of October, but I'll probably only end up at around 105-106 pounds and then I'll go from there. Week One deficits: (11/1) 330, (11/2) 149, (11/3) maintenance, (11/4) maintenance, (11/5) 384, (11/6) maintenance (I think I need to step it up a bit!! This is getting ridiculous) Total deficit: 863/7,000 (12.3%) |

Well that's good, I'm glad the charcoal worked! :) I consider all things in pill form 'medicine', plus of course all the other forms of medicine (liquid, chewable tablet, etc.) that come alternatively in pill form. I don't know, unless it's prescribed by a doctor (and even then I'm iffy about it), compacted chemicals or other non-whole-food items in pill or other 'medicine form' scare me. I think it's because I've had such bad reactions to every generic medicine I've ever tried (although the name brands are mostly fine with my immune system, I guess it just has an expensive taste) and also some antibiotics and pain killers. I've never had any food allergies, though... hmm. |

:( Well I hope you feel better soon!! You'll have to tell me how the charcoal works. I've never tried it before but then again I reeeeally don't like taking medicine, even if it helps me... :/ |

Well if you have some calories left in the bank (or even if you don't, because I find this to be a miracle worker when I have a stomach ache and it's definitely worth going a bit over for): 1. Drink a full mug of hot (herbal) tea with a piece of candied ginger and a teaspoon or two of honey stirred in (or you could just have ginger tea with honey). 2. If that doesn't do it (it usually only helps me halfway), have a slice of whole wheat / multigrain bread with a bit of Greek yogurt and a few banana slices on top. And if you have everything on the list, and choose high calorie versions of everything, it's still only about 250-300 calories, and that's pushing it... it usually only totals up to about 175-200 for me and I feel a whole lot better afterwards. 0-calorie options include using a heating pad, exercising, going to the bathroom... Feel better! |

I get this, too! My family is incredibly pushy with food and to be honest, I think they are proud of themselves for knowing the definitions of medical/nutritional terms and want to show off by saying them whenever they find a chance to sneak the words into their conversations. I'm at a healthy weight though, and my goal is reasonable and healthy as well, so it gets frustrating after a while! Bethym - that's actually a really good idea, I never thought of doing that before! I'll have to try it next time... Oh and btw how tall are you? Just curious. :) |

Original Post by burtofur: Also remember that food has weight, so whatever food/drink is in your stomach when you weigh yourself is contributing to the weight 'gain.' It will probably take about two weeks or so for your body to start processing the food quicker and not store so much in your stomach before getting rid of it (through a raised metabolism and going to the bathroom more). After 2-3 weeks, the weight gain will be slower and you'll have to eat more to keep it going. Another option, if you really feel like you can't eat enough in the day to reach your calorie requirements, is to cut back on the exercise a bit... If you're curious about whether or not you have an eating disorder, but haven't been restricting because you want to lose weight/maintain a low weight, and just see yourself as 'eating healthily,' it's possible that you *might* have orthorexia - that is, an obsession with being healthy. This is a good article explaining what exactly orthorexia is and how it differs from other eating disorders and just eating healthily. This article is a more technical explanation of orthorexia nervosa and its diagnosis. Here are some questions to consider, sort of as a self-test. And this is my favorite article that I found. It's written by an orthorexic so it gives good insight into the disorder's mind (just remember that the author is still recovering when you read it!). Feel free to message me if you have any questions - I know a good bit about orthorexia (I'm about 99% positive that my dad had it, plus I've done my fair share of research on the topic). In any case, congratulations on recognizing that you have a problem and for working to correct it before it gets any worse! It takes a really strong person to be able to do that. :) |

Height: 4'11.25" Bust: 31.5" (small, I know) Waist: 25.5" Hips: 35.5" Thighs: 21" My biggest goal right now is just to flatten my stomach and tone my butt/thighs. Of course I'd love to tone everything else, too, and lose a few more pounds, but I'd be satisfied if I could just get a firmer tush and legs again, like I used to have when I swam competitively (I quit 2 years ago). :) Edit: These were my measurements on Tuesday (it is now Friday). I measure once a week. |

I don't force myself to draw out meals to 20 minutes, but I try to wait at least 20 minutes after eating a small meal and then eating one more portion of something if I am still hungry. I'll repeat this until I'm full. I end up eating a lot of one-portion mini-meals throughout the day, although they are mainly centered (time-wise) around traditional lunch and dinner times. I also snack a lot throughout the morning and at night. I don't know if it's ideal, but it works for me and has helped keep me from bingeing. |
