Weight Loss Phentermine Jul 10 2009

I was on phentermine for about 3 mos., prescribed by my doctor.

It works definitely but i wouldn't recommend it. It seriously cuts your appetite and makes you feel like you should RUN everywhere. I always got the urge to run to the store if we needed something,  which is about a mile away and I am in no way a runner lol.

I also developed a very excruciatingly painful kidney infection. If you have ever had one than you know what im talking about. And I drank plenty of water because it made my mouth dry. I also gained the weight that i lost plus more after my last prescription. I was so upset when I got to the last of my pills because I guess by that time my body had become addicted.

If I have learned one thing about losing weight is that there is no easy way. Some things will give you temporary satisfaction but once you resume a normal life and normal eating your weight comes back.

Reteaching ourselves how to eat and move is the only way in my opinion to maintain weight loss.

THICK is a COMPLIMENT!!! Lol

Everyone talks about how society and the media have made us believe that stick thin and bony are normal but when it gets out that they actually like women with meat on their bones you find it hard to accept?

Im not saying that every man likes it, just a lot. Everyone has their own tastes. In my community (black/hispanic) thick is a killer body no matter how much you weigh. U carry your weight in hips and azz, have large boobs, good hip to waist ratio, sturdy legs.

Some people might get offended if they are thought of as a sex symbol or the definition of..

Not me!! Someone calls me thick it well def brighten my day.

So stop bein square like spongebob and step out your box. Language is an art. Slang is a child of that art.

fiber one toaster pasries

luna or cliff bars (love them!)

instant low sugar oatmeal

boil eggs for the week, put them in a bowl and keep em' in the fridge. grab, crack, and go.

Whole wheat toast with all natural peanut butter

Chocolate milk with protien powder mixed in (the chocolate kind)..tastes very indulgent if you are a chocoholic like me

steam some rice put it in a bowl, put it in the fridge..eat with honey (raw is awsome)

umm i could probably think of more but these are what i like to mix it up with. I also can understand the not having time in the a.m. I work 7:30 to 6 everyday an hour away from where i live. I am DEF not a morning person (i literally wake up 15 mins before i have to leave..lol) so i just make sure i am prepared the night before. Hope this helps!!

They totally have this in places like Safeway and Giant.

Beware, however.  I drank this tea and was underwhelmed by a lack of results.  I didn't need the "push" so to speak, but thought I would try it anyways for detox.  I didn't see any action that seemed out of the norm, but loved the taste.  After several days of drinking one cup a night, I decided to drink 4 (during the day).

Smooth move?  Me thinks not.  I have found that apparently "4" is the magic number of herbal stimulant teas to drink before you are thrust into a world of epic misery and discomfort.

It is like a whole other level of awful.

But, to give myself some credit, it has NEVER bothered me before or even produced results, so I figured "Claims are probably bogus and not to be heeded".

SO VERY WRONG! hah.

 LMAO!!Surprised

Sorry..made me laugh out loud and stupid (i snorted) at work. 'World of epic misery and discomfort' gave me a mental picture..lol.

Fart and poop jokes always make me laugh..lol.Embarassed

There is this blog of these two guys who tried one of those detox systems to cleanse his digestive track. Google gall bladder clease + funny and i think u should find it. Hilarious! (May be disturbing for some, but i have a disgusting sense of humor)

don't worry about her...u kno how negative nancy's can be. I don't know the answer to your question but I also wonder the same things. I think unless you were eating an insane amount of food those few days its probably mostly water weight.

There are a lot of different reasons for water retention..do an google search. There are also a lot of threads on this forum that discuss this very issue.

how do you do all of that on only 1000 cals a day? If I did that I would feel light headed and nauseous by the end of my work out unless I was overdosing on caffeine. Not healthy..not healthy at all, and not sustainable.

WRONG!  A-cup my whole life - I have the the exact opposite problem from you.  All shirts are too big in the boob area and stick out weird and sag... it looks horrible.

I agree with this also, some of the cutest shirts I can not wear also. anything that has a crossover in the front my boobs will definitely not fill up.

on the other hand I feel for you girls too cuz I know my sister when hers were like a C+ she would always complain that all shirts were too short cuz hers made the shirt go up so high, just cuz her chest took all the shirt room up.

finally she just started eating clean i mean really clean about 3 months ago & this is her first time without them since grade school, we are the same size! help she is stealing all my bra's... baby sister.

Tjlo

Lol but u still get to go without a bra..lol. I have to wear them day and night if i want the girls to stay where they are supposed to..lol..and not get any stretch marks on them. I also get these stupid little indents in my shoulders from my bra using them as support. Sucks :(

They get me a lot of attention. Most of the time its unwanted. I work at a dealership so mostly dudes..I have to make sure they are looking at my eyes when they talk to me. The girls don't talk back..lol.

oh and I want to be a B..Man i would looooooooooooove it. One of my best girlfriends is a B and all her tops look so cute on her. All the tops I wish I could wear with some dignity..lol.

Weight Loss When did your body get use to the increase in water intake? How many months? Jun 25 2009

Original Post by fayeonherway:

I sit here typing this post with an urgent need to use the bathroom.  I just did 10 mins ago!  Some days aren't bad but those are in the minority.  Also for some reason I tend to go A LOT when the aftern turns around.  I dread when it hits 2 pm!  So of course I feel a bit self concious as I walk to the restroom again for the umpteenth time in the last 30 mins.  I do like getting up an moving..I would like it better if I wasn't doing a  verision of the pee dance as I scurry on my way...

I increased my water intake in March.  I drink about a gallon a day.

haha. I used to be one of those ppl who are like a camel. Most of my life, with certain exceptions, I could go a whole day and only drink about 8 oz. of ANYTHING. Lol. I would seriously only have like a glass of something to drink a day, and most of the time it wasn't water. I was just never thirsty. Idk what that was about. When I decided that I wanted to get healthier I upped my water intake. First to about 40 oz. a day then to a liter. Now to a quart and a half. My body has slowly gotten used to it but I do find myself having to pee less and less. lol.

lol r u serious? I am def a fan of fitting in some whole grain cereal in your diet..lol. I eat a lot of frosted mini wheats and honey nut cheerios. Im not so sure about the rice krispies cuz they r pretty much just white flour crispy things? Don't really know that much about their nutritional value.

As long as you stay within your caloric limits I believe you can eat whatever you want. But i would also advise u to find something with some nutritional value and that can be filling too.

Original Post by gi-jane:

Technically yes, you'd still lose weight on 1500 cals of chocolate (or of any other food for that matter.)  1500 cals of milk chocolate is about 280g or 10oz and the 144g sugar it contains might mean you retained some fluid... that would offset things somewhat.   And sugar tends to whistle through the system very quickly leaving people very hungry and irritable!!  The phrase 'skinny bitch' might have been created for followers of the 'Chocolate Diet'

 lol

Weight Loss bmr formula Jun 18 2009

I think you might be underestimating your own needs. You are a teenager so from what I have learned you youngins need more calories than us grown ups.

If I did your calculations for men it would put your bmr at 1671.50. So umm idk.

for men-

For men, use this formula:
66 + (6.3 x weight in pounds) + (12.9 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

Weight Loss bmr formula Jun 18 2009

Original Post by niikolai:

This calculation of basal metabolic rate isn't 100% completely accurate. The only accurate measure of BMR is using calculations based on lean body mass (LBM) which requires you know your percent body fat. (To calculate LBM, multiply your weight times your body fat percentage and then subtract the answer from your weight)

The Katch-McArdle formula for BMR based on LBM works for both men and women:

370 + [21.6*(LBM in kg)] = BMR

Note that there are 2.2 pounds in a kilogram.

I noticed you said that your BMR seems slightly high in this formula, this is probably because you have a higher than average body fat percentage, and because the formula is based soley on body weight, it will overestimate your caloric needs.

If you really want to know how many calories your metabolism burns in a comatose state, go get your body fat percentage measured.

I'm a 17-year-old swimmer at 5'7", weighing 136lbs with 9.7% body fat. According to the above formula my BMR is 1475 (I know it's for women, but I'm just using myself as data), if I do calculations based on the Katch-McArdle formula, it's 1,575 (tasherie's formula underestimated my needs). However, if my body fat was 25% (a little over average), my BMR would be 1371 (overestimation).

The second part of the Katch-McArdle formula is to multiply your BMR based on your activity level:

Sedentary: *1.2 (desk job, little or no exercise)

Lightly Active: *1.375 (light exercise, 1-3 days a week)

Moderately Active: *1.55 (exercise 3-5 days a week)

Very Active: *1.725 (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week)

Extra Active: *1.9 (hard daily exercise/ twice a day training or a physical job)

For me, this makes my daily caloric consumption around 3,000 calories, which is pretty close on average (some days I work harder and have to eat more, others are a little less).

The less active you are, the more accurate the formula is because there is less guesswork involved in figuring out what to multiply your BMR by.

So basically, if you really want to know what your BMR is, go find out your body fat percentage and do some number crunching with the Katch-McArdle formula.

i think we are just trying to get around guessing what our activity level is. What happens if you are between active and very active..where is the calculation for that? You are a man so it would definately underestimate your caloric burn. You are also an athlete so you know fairly well what category you fall in.

We do not. And for me this is pretty damn accurate.

Edit- sorry..got a little snappy..didn't mean it!

I just wanted to post the formula that I got from the Web md website. For me its dead on. I am not an athlete. I am just an everyday woman that goes to work everyday and gets confused (like a lot of other folks) about what category to put myself under. I know that the most accurate way to calculate your bmr is to get your lean body mass tested..but not having the money or the time at the moment I would want the best thing to it. Thanks..

Weight Loss Can you eat chocolate and still lose weight? Jun 16 2009

Hershey has these great little things called 'sticks' and they have it in dark, milk, chocolate w/mint, and chocolate w/caramel. They are in the candy isle. They are real chocolate and only 60 cals per. They are long enough where you wonder if its too much chocolate to be only 60 cals. Awsome and I have at least 2 everyday.

I am a chocoholic and I need my chocolate fix..so I see these as a blessing.

Original Post by littlemalynda:

I say go with whatever works for now, and if you8 are losing about 1-2lbs a week then you know you're on the right track. If not you need to change it up.

As yaza said, I eat about 2500 cals for maintain (not working out) and 1800 would be running a PHAT deficit for me.... I drop weight like a fly at that. I also work out like you for 60-120 mins per day 5-6x per week (weights & cardio).

I was running a 1000+ deficit for the longest and losing but not much. It caused me to lose my period tho, so be careful... you don't want to find out the hard way girly! :)

im gonna up my cals for a while and see what happens.

No worries and no, you dont seem scatterbrained.  Perhaps the person that suggested 1200 after your workout misunderstood.

I am no expert, but why would you want to eat the majority of your calories after a workout?

For me, after a workout I like a good hit of protein within a half hour of working out.  Protein for me will be a protein shake (50g protein) or a protein bar (20g) or a piece of chicken breast.  None of these have 1200 calories.  They run between 230-400 calories.

i mean total throughout the day. Because the Burn Meter says that I not doing anything at all burn about 2090 cals. I eat only about 16-1800 cals and I do about a 1000 cal work out on most days. Is that wrong that I am only consuming 16-1800 cals total? Should I eat more so that after my workout my total cals are at least 1200?
