If you do not rest it/let it repair itself you can do lasting damage to the ankle.

See, this worries me.  I sprained my ankle several weeks ago and am still limping around.  I work 8 hours a day and am constantly on my feet and walking...by the end of the day I am in tears.  I just never have time to rest my ankle.

Fitness sprained ankle---suggestions ? Jun 25 2009
20:45 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it's just a sprain.  Well resting the ankle is out...like I said I have to walk and be on my feet for 8 hours a day at work....and I am in the process of packing because I am moving...plus I have a very active 5 year old...yada yada yada..but I haven't put any ice on it yet, I will definitely try that and hopefully get a few minutes to elevate.  Thanks :)

Fitness How good is swimming for exercise? Jun 25 2009

Swimming is awesome.  Just the other day I found out that I burned 1096 calories with 3 hours of swimming.  It's the only exercise I can do right now with a sprained ankle, although  I didn't consider it much of a workout since I was having so much fun and time just flew by.  If you think about it you use your whole body so I would imagine you could work/tone the muscles a little that way.

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times already- I just found this post today and briefly skimmed through it (since I'm at work).  I have purchased the p90x DVD system, a set of 8lb weights and a pull up bar.  What else do I need for this to work ?  Do I really need resistance bands ??

Jagermeister and Red Bull......I'm not even sure of the calorie content....maybe I don't want to know.  I do know that it's ALOT.  Although I haven't stopped drinking this all together I have switched to Sugar Free Red Bull and have cut back from drinking 3 times a week down to 0-1 times a week.  (Well except for this week )

That is awesome.  Congrats !! So are you going to eliminate alcohol completely ?  That has been my struggle and really the main reason I gained the weight in the first place.  I have been trying to cut back, but I just don't think I want to stop drinking all together.  I know this hinders my weight loss, it will just take me longer to reach my goal.

Weight Loss Acitvity level - what am I? Jun 09 2009

I had just purchased a pedometer not to long ago to measure how much I walk during the day.  I work in a hospital and am on my feet and moving around for much of the day.  The results were quite disappointing however.  I only walk about 2-3 miles/day and the pedometer says that only burns 150 cals. (not quite exact on that #).   I think that I will leave my activity level at sedentary until I add on some sort of "extra" physical activity.  As far as running 3.5 miles goes; I would consider that to be light activity.

I totally get you on this one....drive on the right side of the road- makes sense to walk on the right side of the hallway or aisle ! Oh and I also color coordinate my underwear with what I am wearing for the day/night.

So glad I found this post :)  Pizza is a BIG problem for me too...just last night I snarfed down 5 slices of pizza, two bread sticks, one cinna stick and 240z of pepsi...I could have eaten more but there had to be some kind of stopping point.  I didn't even think my stomach could hold that much food

Today I binged and had about 2300 cal total today. I am mad at myself because this will usually happen once or twice a week. The rest of the week I'm doing 1200 a day.

My limit is also 1200 and I did the exact same thing yesterday.  Like everyone has said on here; just remind yourself that one day wont kill you.  I am just going to make sure that I get in some extra activity today and definitely watch what I'm eating .  Luckily I did rather well this week with calories and exercise so it shouldn't make any difference.  Live and learn right ?  I'll make sure not to do that again though!!! I did not like the feeling I had afterwards.

Weight Loss When did YOU start to gain weight? Jun 05 2009

November 2007...yup...a month after I met my current bf. I started losing sleep...LOTS of sleep, eating more, and definitely drinking more.  I basically adopted his lifestyle and it took me from 105 to 143 very quickly.  The weight gain doesnt bother him a bit, in fact he thinks I was too skinny then and likes my look better now. But a couple of weeks ago I got fed up with it and joined here.  I'm down to 135ish now and trying to figure out how to get rid of all the bad habits I've picked up from him without getting rid of him

Original Post by kawnd11:

Sedentary is at best rolling yourself out of bed in the morning then gronking out on the couch all day.

Really ? Cause I picked sedentary for my activity level just because I don't get any "regular" exercise.  I work at a hospital and do a fair amount of walking during the day there (2-3 miles/day).  On top of that I do take occasional leisure walks, housework, shopping, playing in the yard with my daughter, and have been working on building a new house on the weekends....Should I change my status to "light activity" also ??

Weight Loss Diet Soda?? Jun 03 2009

This subject gets me.....Several months ago I switched from regular soda to diet and actually ended up gaining weight.  I have read articles and what not that do say diet soda can lead to bloating which would make your midsection larger....and then some of you say that you HAVE lost weight while still drinking diet soda..... Guess the only way for me to find out for sure is to try and cut it out completely and see what happens : )

Weight Loss Number of Hours of Sleep vs Time you Sleep Jun 02 2009

Original Post by sealion311:

If you were breaking it up so it wasn't a continuous 8 hours..that would be a problem.  But it isn't a problem (per se) if you are getting 8 hours straight.

Wow, I was just wondering about that.  I noticed that almost two years ago when I started losing sleep I started packing on the pounds.  Sunday thru Wednesday I sleep from 3 or 4 am until 7 am....then on Mon/Tue/Wed if I have time I will sneak in an hour or two of sleep from 5-9 pm...Thursday and Friday Nights I almost get 7 hours...So in order to lose weight I have to get 8 continuous hours of sleep ????

I recall hearing about this several years back.  Is this the program that requires you to follow a special eating/exercise program ?  I think I was a little afraid of following the food guidelines.  Just wondering if this would work just strictly following the exercise guide ? To lose 35 lbs in 6 weeks sounds amazing !!!

Yeah, I've gone over my 1200 cal/day limit just about every day since I've joined CC 10 days ago :( OOPS However, I haven't been logging all of my activity and I'm not sure if my calorie counts are correct since I just pick the closest thing I can find that matches what I've eaten and I'm not always sure about portion sizes.  So I'm thinking that my calorie intake might actually be lower than I am logging.  I don't think you should worry at all.  Especially since you are breastfeeding.  Like the others have said, you should probably increase your calories really.  And don't feel bad..I often find myself eating what my daughter doesn't...just cause I don't want it to go to waste.   I am working on breaking that habit for sure : )  I'm sure you will get back on track soon enough.

I'm right with you girl !! I'm a little lazy myself.  Well that and I don't have much energy due to getting only 3-4 hours of sleep most nights.  By the time I get off of work I just don't have the energy.  I think my weight gain has gotten out of hand though so I am completely disgusted with myself now and I HAVE to do something about this.  I only joined CC last week, cutting my calories is a start...but I'm just going to  have to push myself and get out there and exercise :)

Weight Loss HELP! Any suggestions for a picky eater ? May 30 2009

Well for those of you wondering what I do eat here is an example:

TODAYS FOOD

LUNCH: grilled cheese sandwich and Baked Lays

SNACK:  raw baby carrots and ranch dip

Thats about it...oh and one of the doctors I work for bought me a 16oz Coke today..so 200 and some calories were wasted on that.  I'm already up to 910 calories and havent had dinner yet.  My limit is 1200 cals/day.  For dinner I plan on grilling some boneless skinless chicken breasts and maybe have some long grain and wild rice for the side.   Question about smoothies....do they fill you up ?

I actually do not do much cooking.  I've been doing the smaller portion thing already.  I don't know why I am so picky.  The texture of fruits and vegetables bothers me more so than the taste.  I usually end up vomiting from gagging if I eat something I don't like...so I don't think just "sucking it up" is going to work for me, but I'm willing to give it a shot.  I have already tried eating salad a million times cause I heard that if you eat it enough you will like it, but it just tastes terrible to me and I can barely get down a whole piece of lettuce.  Well looks like I will just have to find things I like that are low calorie, continue to cut back portions and increase my activity for now.  Thanks for the input :)

I can kind of relate to your situation.  As of September 2007 I weighed 105 lbs.  As of today I am at 141. Basically it happened like this -new relationship ~ new lifestyle ~ extra pounds.  This is the biggest I have ever been (except pregnancy).  I would love to get back down to 105; however at this point I will take any weight loss I can get.  I've never been one to exercise or watch what I eat so I'm kind of taking this one step at a time.  I figure I will cut back on calories first, then add in the exercise slowly.  I too want to stick to this for more than a month- I wan't the weight to come off AND STAY OFF !!!!  So I am also open to any advice or tips that anyone has : )

Weight Loss Small bust...bigger bottom...what to do? May 21 2009

Oh how nice it is to hear from so many of you that have a "pear" shaped body.  I too am curvy on the bottom and a little thinner up there.  Not sure why I missed out on the boob gene, but every other woman in my family - mom's side and father's side - has large breasts.  Not saying that I want DD's, but I would like a little more than I have now.  I went from 105lbs to 141 lbs over the last year and a half and still...no bigger.  Even during pregnancy they did not grow : ( So the padded bra has become my best friend... sometimes I even wear two... (shhh ...dont tell).  My five year old daughter has asked me a couple times when I was getting dressed "why do you wear two bras mommy ?"... My response was..."because it's cold outside".  Well that worked during the winter....now what do I say that it's warm out....
