I am still at 130. Maybe the TEAM can help me with my small dilemma.   I went in to for an abdominal muscle repair surgery last Friday due to carrying the twin 11 years ago. With the doctor order,  I am not able to exercise like I used to, mainly just walk slowly around the house and with taking lots of pain medication, I have to eat more so do I need to eat the same amount of calories like before the surgery? I was hoping to lose weight after the surgery because I eat less but if I don't exercise, it's not going to help.

Maybe this is why I didn't lose the weight this week.

Vie,

I am a registered nurse and in order to heal well from your surgical repair, you need to rest and eat well. Eating well means drinking tons of water to help your body rid the cellular garbage your body is clearing away from the surgical site of healing, eating lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains in moderation, and plenty of protein! Protein is the buidling block of muscle tissue and you must have it to heal well and in a timely manner. You may not want to hear this, but now is not the time to focus on weight loss. However, you can (and should) maintain your weight by eating right and starting to incorporate gentle walking (short distances at first).Once you've healed completely you can get right back to your weight loss goals. If you rush back into it too early you could tear the muscles again and set yourself back for a long time.

I, too, had torn my rectus abdominus muscle during childbirth with my first child (a three inch wide/ seven inch long tear!) and had to have it repaired many years later. For me, I was told a full six weeks before anything vigorous (that included vacuuming and mopping as these use your stomach muscles). Hang in there and focus on healing and making your eating the best it can be. Walking will help you, too. No arm weights/exercises either, as these cause contraction of the abdominal muscles. You can also catch up on some reading about health topics and spend more time with your family during this time. See, there's always positives to be found!

Best of healing!!

Becky

Thank you all for your kinds words and expertise.  I will definitely do just that for now.  Becky, your are right.  I do read more about health topics and even the childrens have been helping out around the house.

Thanks again!

Go TEAM G0!

So I lost 11.9 lbs since 1st of June and I stopped, looks like i cant lose wait since Saturday. It is so annoying. I should up my calories and change the exercise maybe. Grrr! Well, maybe it is not a plataue, hope not. Frown

Afined.. I think uping your calories and changing up the exercise routine is a great idea. I noticed that if I go out for dinner of course I eat more calories then a normal day, but when I weigh myself a few days later I have still managed to lose weight..maybe it was because my calories were up and my metabolism increased. I also do as many different routines as I can..including weights, resistance bands, stairs, going for a walk, doing all my laundry in one day that's lots of lifting and stair work. Don't give-in I know you can do it:)

Don't dwelled on the platau side too much Afined! you are doing fantastic!  I've just got back from Hawaii today and I don't know why I've gained my 3 lbs back.  I've walk, ride bike and eat fresh fruits and fish every day.  In addition, I drink nothing but water.  I've been so good on this trip and I am so dissappointed, I thought I would lose some more weight.

Vienvien, as far as i know you should get at least 1200 calories a day. And you said you also exercise so i bet you need more than 1200 calories a day.  Maybe your body needs more energy and warns you so you feel hunger.

PS; breakfast is really important and it is easy to burn these calories during the day.

Thank you afined! I'll try to eat more during breakfast.

Since I excercise more, I feel hungrier in the morning.  My calories intakes for breakfast is around 250 and lunch around 450.  My totals calories per day is around 1000-1150.

Is it normal to be so hungry in the morning? Is it a good idea to increase my calories intakes for breakfast?

I'm headed to the beach thru Sunday. I have big plans to walk in the mornings and not have TOO MANY drinks. I know I'll have a few, but plan to make them all vodka and diet tonics. Maybe building sand castles with the kids will burn some calories. Laughing

Have a fantastic time with your kids Sawerdshy!  I just came back from the optometry for my annual eyes exam.  I've been getting a lots of strains on my eyes and experiencing blurry vision lately.  After the examination, the doctor scratched his head and said that I don't need any prescription.  The strains and blurry vision was caused by my contact lens being  too strong.  I don't have to wear glasses or contact lens anymore.

About 6 months now, I've been eating tons of vegetables, fish and less of the red meats.  Just foods for thought!

Original Post by peaches0405:

Don't be embarrassed.  It's a question that pops up here alot.  Basically the consensus is that most of the cleanses won't necessarily hurt you...but neither will they help you anymore than just eating a clean diet of unpackaged foods such as nuts, lean meat, beans, fruit, veggies, fiber, plenty of water, etc.  Stay away from the sodium-laden frozen/boxed meals and the normal colon will do just fine without you having to spend money on a cleanse.

Edited to add fuller list:

Fruit
Fresh or frozen fruit.

Vegetables
All fresh vegetables. Vegetables thought to be particularly good detox foods include broccoli, cauliflower, broccoli sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes, beets, red and green vegetables.

Rice
All forms of rice, including rice cakes, rice crackers and rice pasta. Brown rice is typically preferred.

Other Grains
Quinoa, amaranth, millet, and buckwheat can be used instead of rice. They can be purchased at a health food store or in some grocery stores.

Beans
Split yellow and green peas and lentils are easiest to digest and require the least soaking time. Other good options include kidney beans, pinto beans, mung beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas) and adzuki beans.

Nuts and Seeds
Unsalted nuts or seeds can be sprinkled over salads or eaten as a snack. Good options include flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews and walnuts. Nut butters are permitted. Peanuts and peanut butter are usually not recommended.

Oil
Extra-virgin olive oil is a preferred oil.

Condiments
Vegetable salt, sea salt, vinegar, soy sauce or tamari, all herbs or spices.

Tea
Herbal teas, green tea.

Other Beverages
Water, lemon water, pure unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, rice milk

Daily Detox Do's
Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day, warm or room temperature.

Take the time to chew food well, especially grains.

Hello peaches0405!  Thanks for your input and info.  I do eat most of the foods you've mentioned.  Unfortunately, I don't drink a lots of water.  I have to force myself to drink water or I will go the whole day without drinking it.

Thanks!

sawerdshy- yea slimline tonic is diet tonic so there are no calories in it. I love daquiris too.. and I work in a bar, after work everyone makes themself a cocktail and i've just had to have a diet coke everytime!! it's definately not bothering me as much as i thought it might though. when i think about all the sugar that i put in other peoples cocktails it makes me feel a bit sick now!

vievien- have you lost that 3lbs just since starting on monday!!! that's amazing and what have you been doing to do that? (if not then still well done! that's definately a great start) I haven't weighed myself yet I think i'll wait till monday as to save getting obsessive about it!!

glad everyone is doing so well. afined- hope you get better soon!! :(

Good Morning Elle909!  I do my walking for an hour everyday up and down the hill and since I lived around the vineyard area, I would do a 2 hours sightseing walk on the weekend.  Recently, I've been roller skating in the evening as well.

I kept my calories around 1200 per day and I think it is beginning to pay off.

afined- make sure you drink plenty of water and try to eat foods that are soft.

Welcome to all of you new plateau fighters!

I weighed in day before yesterday, but finals kept me from posting my results.

Down to 131.80, I know it's really almost 132, but I don't care. I'm so excited to see that I'm creeping down to the 130 wall. I have been full of intense cravings the past couple of days, I think because of stress. My finals are done now so I can focus on getting my eating back on track.

I'll take my measurements later got to go collapse now.

Hey Jocalo!  I am proud of you.  Keep it up!

Hey Jodi, I used to cut out all of the sweets but I've learned that by doing that it didn't help me in the long run and it did not curb my craving.  Now, if I want cheese cake etc., I just have a small portion and I usually eat it in the afternoon.  I love chocolate!  I can eat it all day long.  Hershey came out with 60 calories stick and it is fantastic.  It's enough to satisfy the craving.

elle909...I am proud of you!

vievien- they there!  The last thing we want to do is force him to do something he doesn't want/need to do. I know he needs time but it seems that he's getting worse with time instead of better. It's hard to just stand by and watch.  I suppose we'll have to play the passive role and see how things work out. Thanks Vie.

I know it is hard but 52 years is a very long time.  Asked your father-in-law if he needs anything.  Does he have any grandchildren that visit him?  Make him feel that he is needed here also.  My mother and I still grieves the lost of my father even today. Some days and months brings back memories of him and we would cry together.

Hang in there!

My father-in-law lost his wife of 52 years in January. I understand that the grieving process can take a very long time but I'm trying to find out what is "normal"? He will go to the cemetery 2-3 times a day to "visit", he's become more depressed and withdrawn, and he makes comments that he wants "her to wait for him". He flat out refuses to speak with a counselor or therapist to help him cope with the loss.  I know that the grieving process is different for every person, but is this something that we should be worried about?

jrzgirl76- Hey, I just went through losing my father last November and my mother is just like that.  You need to be there to comfort him when he needs you.  Just leave him alone and don't take him to any counselor or therapist.  He will feel insulated by that gesture.  Just reassure him that you will be there when he is ready to talks etc..

Let me tell you, counselor or therapist doesn't know how much he misses his wife.  Only time will heals and you will know when the time is right.

Hope this helps!

Good Morning Everyone,

I woke up this morning and walked for 20 minutes on the treadmill. I workout for an hour after work, but I thought it might be a good idea to get a little jumpstart in the morning. I definitely walked into work a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed. How is everyone else feeling?

Hi sawerdshy!  Keep it up!  I am feeling great this morning too.  I played volleyball yesterday for 30 minutes at the beach and walked 20 minutes.  I also used the leg magic (130 counts) before bedtime.

I've stayed below my calories intakes and was told not to, because your body goes into starvation mode.  I am a lot closer to my real calories.  I don't know why my weight is still the same but my pants and shirts is loose.

Good Luck!

Anyone have any advice on how to survive the weekends?  I do great all week but once Friday night hits..... hanging out with friends, having a few drinks, steak on the BBQ...... Plus, with three kids and friends kids there is a lot of kid friendly food (chips, hot dogs....)  I snack without even realizing it!  So Monday morning I am at the same place I was the previous Monday!  Has anyone been there and overcome the vicious circle?

I made a promise to myself that if I I stayed with my calories count and exercise 5 days per week, than on the weekend, I reward myself.  I do it moderately!  A small portion of dessert, meats, pasta and of course 1 glass of wine.  For dinner, I eat light follow by a 30 min. walk.

You can eat whatever you want but in small portion during the mid-day but don't eat heavy dinner.  Remember, don't eat dinner past 7 o'clock.

Ladies: Strip clubs, girlie mags, pornos - it's a rite of passage for most men. You with young sons, will learn soon enough that your boys do this whether you know about it or not.

Just don't see the big deal in living and letting live. I don't sit online and surf the big nasty - but what possible difference can it make to me if someone else does?

Kathy, I have told him not to be sneaky about it and just be honest.   Recently, during our vacation trip, I decided to be relax about the "P" movies and asked him to watch it with me.  He wouldn't do it.  He said that I shouldn't have to lower my standard.

I love to watch the Travel Channel. Lately, I was watching Bridgit's sexy beaches and he would change the channel.  The minute I leave the room, he would watch it.

What do you think of that?

So here's my solution:  Lets legalize nudity in public and marijuana while we're at it.  Then, when the Rapture happens, all the die-hard Chistians can go on up to thier boring little heaven and listen to Lawrence Welk and drink Earl Grey tea and remain sexually-repressed, getting-off on feeling 'naughty.'  Then the rest of us can just get on with the business of being human.

LOL I love it . All of it.
Because its pretty much the way I feel.
Also, I think it was you lorik who made the reference about Canada being more liberal than the USA - and I think you are absolutly correct. Being a Canadian who ends up in the US multiple times per year, I see it first hand. A great example (though unrelated to the discussion topic) is marijuana usage. I'm not going to lie - I partake in said usage on a regular basis. It curbs my anxiety. It also makes me binge - but the anxiety is a far greater evil then the binging (I just don't buy junk food anymore when I buy groceries for that very reason). I live in BC, where marijuana use is even more liberal than the rest of Canada. Hell, we have a cafe in downtown Vancouver called the Amsterdam cafe - where you can not only buy pipes, bongs, endless rolling papers, vaporizers, etc., but you can roll and smoke your pot right there in the cafe, while you eat your sandwich. Yes, police/law enforcement know about it, however they are far more involved with the herion/crack/cocaine usage just a few blocks away, and generally leave the stoners alone :P I think nothing of walking down the street downtown and smoking one with my boyfriend, because chances are there is somene within a block of you doing the same. And this is the nice part of town. Then again, its extremely common to see two attractive, well-dressed men holding hands walking down the same street, and not one person even giving them a second glance.
With regards to the OP again, I agree that being lied to is not acceptable. My boyfriend knows where I stand on the topic (not even white lies are acceptable - I am brutally honest and couldn't lie to save my life, so I expect to be treated that way). However, I do think your husband shuld be allowed his own freedom of choice. Blocking his internet usage is, like others and myself have already said, something you do to a child. Not your partner.
If he can't respect your wishes, or you can't respect his, then there is clearly more dysfunction than you let on.

I didn't just block his internet, since he was caught several times, he made promises again and said I can block those sites if I want.

Trust me!  I did not treat him like a child.  My husband can do whatever he wants.  He is not someone that just sit and take whatever you dish out.  We really communicates a lots and if he just let me know from the beginning that occasionally he want to watch "P" than I can deals with it rather than to be lied too over and over again!

I don't like the sneaking around, turning the site off when I walk into the room and pretending to work! AND... when we are around our friends, the issue of "P" pops up, he would agrees with them that pornography is wrong etc..

To me that is hypocrite!

I personally think pornography is morally wrong. The biggest problem I see in it is that it portrays women as sex objects, rather than human beings. I've seen porn before, pretty much everyone at some point gets curious, and the majority is full of men talking horribly to the woman and being "dominant".

 1) Hmm... wouldn't anything having to do with sex be portraying them as objects? Same with men. Aren't the men in porn just poking machines or no better than a breeding stud?

2) There are a lot of other types of porn! If you want woman being "dominant" there is lots of that out there....whatever floats your boat (chances they have something for it)

3) At least he isnt watching this

1) Of course it's the same with men, but I'm assuming her partner is watching pornography and concentrating more on the women. I don't agree with it either way.

2) No matter what kind of porn it is, it's just using peoples sexuality to make money, which I think is wrong. There is something seriously wrong with our society if it is deemed acceptable to have sex with people on camera, show off their bodies and make money for being able to satisfy other people - rather than making money using important things like their brain.

3) I'm curious, but I won't be clicking that lol.

Also, in regards to your comment on how porn pays well. Sure it may pay well. In fact I watched a documentary on it a while back and from what I remember it pays exceedingly well depending on what you're doing, but it will bite you in the ass later on. If you decide later on to work for some big company, they do research on you, and do you think you'd get the job if they find out you were a porn star? That would reflect badly on the company. Not to mention if a friend, loved one or family member were to stumble upon it - some may be fine with it, but what if they aren't? Once things are on the internet, they are there forever... there's no erasing them.

Above all though... why would you want to stoop so low as to showcase your body for money, give away your dignity for a quick buck? It just does not seem worth it to me. I realize maybe for some that's the only option... but still.

I'm just giving my two cents... if you want to go do porn, I don't really care, I'm not going to preach, but for the sake of the thread.

Me too!! I am curious about #3 too.  Anybody click on it yet?

Well I've always wondered why so many women get upset over porn. Personally I think it is insecurity on the womans part. I don't see harm in it, I think it can spice up sex life and I could care less if my hubby watches or spends money on it. The more you cut your man off ladies the more he will tend to wander. I say watch it with him and enjoy the fact that it's you he's with. Women (IMO) are WAYYYY to uptight about sex. Sex is one thing LOVE is another. Especially in the male world. I'm not trying to generalize men but the majority of men can easily separate the two.

Maybe if some of the uptight women would loosen up on the sex subject the men in their lives wouldn't wander so much, but if your not into sex and can't give your man what he needs your going to be at high risk for affairs and him having to sneek around to watch porn. He's going to sneak and do it when your unaware of it anyway.

I have so many female friends who complain about sex and only give it up on occasion. WHY????

Having sex and him watching porn are totally different. If taking away his porn causes him to wander then he's got issues. Just because a woman may not like their man putting their sexual energy towards another woman does not mean they are not screwing like rabbits any other time, FYI.

I don't think insecurity have anything to do with not wanting a man to watch porn.  It is totally fine if both like it but in my case, before I married my husband, we talk about our like and dislike.  Porn was one of them.  If I enter into my marriage knowing that my husband likes porn, than I can deal with it by making adjustment.  Intimacy between couple is about "ART"  not PORN...  you can explore it together without the HOLYWOOD VERSION!!!

We just want consideration and honesty!!!

Don't classified a woman of being insecure.  I am a Doctor with my own bank account with a model body after having 3 kids.

You should check out Lanaii, Hawaii.  It is so beautiful and very seclusive beach to enjoy.  It is a perfect vacation for anniversary or just to get away from peoples.

There is only 2 resorts up there.  The Manele Bay which is by the beach or the Keole Lodge by the mountain.  Snorkel, horse back riding, fishing, hiking etc..  all day long.

You can also go island hoping by a ferry boat to Maui (Shopping) and come back the same day.

We are getting ready to go back on our anniversary in June for 10 days.  It is one of our favarite place to visit.  We usually go twice a year.

Check it out!

I'm the only guy I know that doesn't look at porn.  My room mates both make fun of me for it.  I am by no means a saint and its not moral reasons that turn me off to it, I just find it disturbing for some reason.

When other kids were discovering porn in High School I was still pulling the legs off bugs and throwing them into ant nests.  :X

Good for you!!  My husband is like this too (doesn't like porn) and this is one of the reasons I was attracted to him.  I cannot stand porn although I know that most men probably do look at it.  I feel porn over-sensitizes a man to sex and makes him less able to be aroused under normal circumstances.  Hubby is in his late 30s and has NO trouble in that department.  He feels the same way I do.

I would not be with a man that looks at porn.  To me it IS cheating.  It is him directing his sexual energy towards someone else.  I know I am in the minority... but heh, I've  felt this way all my life.  I don't want to hear "men are more visual", "it is the caveman thing of having more than one women", etc.  I think that men were raised to believe this was the way to be as frokusblakah said he was made fun of for not participating.

You're a lucky lady!  It is such a hassle to deal with "P". When we are intimate, I feel like he is thinking about those girls in the "P".  My husband and I are 30 years apart and it is getting harder for him to get arouse due to his heart medications, etc. and I completely understand that.  But I also think that maybe since he's used to watching "P", and now he is not, it might have some effect on him.

I can never be like those "P" girls.  I don't know why the word "Disease" doesn't pop in their head.

I know ignoring the issue will not help our marriage, but since I don't pay attention to it, I am able to focus on more productive things in life.
