I don't think anyone can say "Do this and it will work"

But I can tell you as a 6'1-ish male, that when my stomach got too big I started jogging and it went down pretty quickly.

I don't see why ANYONE would think that diet is good for them. You need to eat different foods, including ones with carbs, in order to lose and maintain that loss.

Weight Loss Diet Soda?? Jun 03 2009

I LIKE the taste of diet soda. There are a lot of myths surrounding it as well, but I can say from experience that I've lost 20 pounds drinking it instead of regular soda. It doesn't make me crave, it hasn't held onto my stomach fats, and it isn't as bad for your health as some people would like you to believe.

That doesn't mean its GOOD for you, but it isnt going to kill you.

Also to the post above me, it isn't unknown. No credible study has ever been able to show that there is ANY negative effect to drinking artifical sweeteners (within normal amounts, meaning not eating or drinking tons of it a day) in humans.

One study did show that when people drank diet soda they had more calories the next day. The flaw is that the next day they drank regular soft drinks. So of course they had more calories.

Hi. If you are trying to lose weight I'd suggest running or jogging/walking to get smaller. Err actually running/jogging/walking with other things thrown in (like small weights, situps, lunges) that kind of thing.

Its hard to say without knowing your height/age/weight though.

I've been told it's because you don't have as much water weight to lose. So it's all mostly fat, which comes off slower. I don't know if thats true or not, but it kind of makes sense.

Weight Loss Skinny Bitch? Jun 02 2009

Original Post by sealion311:

I HATED it.  It was very condescending and vulgar.  I have been a vegetarian numrous times in my life, and although the book makes some valid points, they just took it too far-aka not funny when you're calling me a fat ass because I eat a hamburger every now and then. More than my response to it though, I hated what it did to my friends that read it. I had one friend who is very "persuadeable" and she became so preachy afterwards, eyeing everything I ate and making comments from the book. It was awful. So if you do read it, dont become her, LOL

Personally, i would rather live my life a normaly weight nice person than a skinny bitch, maybe thats just me.

Pretty much agree with that. I have also been vegetarian a few times, over a year twice. I've read the start of the book (like 1/4 of it) I just find it stupid. I don't care how good your point is, it's also how you make it. It's not like everything the book says is true either.

I'm only living once so I'll be damned if I'd let a book controll me to that extent.

Weight Loss vitamins?what's good & bad? Jun 01 2009

I strongly believe in taking vitamins, and I have a doctor that agrees with me. Each day I take 4grams of vitamin C, 400mg of mixed vitamin E, 2grams of Vitamin D, a multi, purified salmon oil, probiotics, 100mg vitamin B, & coQ10. There is no way I'm eating 400 oranges to get 4 grams of vitamin C.

I dont see why you would need to eat 400 oranges to get the correct daily value of Vitamin C considering a LOT of things have a high percentage of it.

Weight Loss I skip breakfast...so what? Jun 01 2009

Original Post by meowmeowhead:

I am so happy to have found this site.  I believe that everyone is different and that telling everyone you have to eat breakfast in order to lose weight is wrong.

As soon as I started forcing myself to eat breakfast, I started to gain weight, not lose it.  Eating breakfast just started my appetite going and I would eat tons throughout the day.

Eating breakfast doesn't curb my hunger, it somehow increases it.  I think it more important how many calories you put into your body, rather than when you eat.

The way I see it isn't that eating breakfast doesn't help you lose weight. What it does is put more energy into your body. Which means you are more likely to exercise because you don't feel devoid of energy during the day.

That's how it works for me anyway. On days I don't eat breakfast I just CANT jog for 30 minutes like I do on days where I do eat.

Vitamins have very little effect on your body period unless you take them with food. Whether or not the type of food matters I'm not 100% sure, but I would believe it does. Don't take that part as fact though, I'm sure someone else here knows more about that.

My question is that if you have to take vitamins with food to be effective, why wouldn't you just eat a vitamin rich food? That's much better for you in the long run.

Weight Loss Thoughts on fasting Jun 01 2009

It doesn't reset you at all. In fact a day of healthy eating will reset your body much better and you will feel much better. Fasting is only for people who have EXTREME amounts of weight to lose, so much so that it presents them with a major health problem, and also people who do it for religious purposes.

Soft drinks can actually dehydrate your body. When your body gets dehydrated to a certain point you often lose your thirst even though your body needs water.

Weight Loss Alternate Days Fasting!! Anyone want to join?? May 31 2009

The fact is that your body can only burn so much fat in a day regardless of how many calories you burn. That means that the other energy it gets comes from eating at your muscle and organs which can lead to severe PERMANENT damage.

If you want to do it for religious reasons thats great, but it's not a diet plan. I'm not being rude either....I'm being honest so that people don't do damage to themselves.

It's possible that you just don't have that much weight to lose. It's also possible that you aren't eating enough, depending on your height.

When you don't eat enough your metabolism slows and it really won't matter how much you burn because your body stores the calories. Also there is no reason to stop eating regular food. I eat fast food, candy, and things I like (not every day) and I lost 20 pounds.

Weight Loss Gah, birthday party calories May 31 2009

So to be technical if you burned 0 calories yesterday you'd gain a pound. The scale may say more but that's water weight, and comes off easy.

One bad day doesn't set you back really, it's letting that day become a habit which you don't seem like you'd let that happen.

Weight Loss Ate above calorie requirement and still lost weight? May 31 2009

Most likely water weight along with what has already been said.

Also just because CC says to eat 1400 calories doesnt mean you wont lose if you eat more. This site doesnt give you an exact number, its more of an estimate in my opinion.

Weight Loss Won't your metabolism slow down even if you eat more than 1.2k cals? May 30 2009

I doubt it, because by that logic you could eventually reduce your caloric need to 0 by slowly decreasing.

Your body NEEDS a certain amount of calories regardless of how much or how little you eat. To use an example, if you ate 4000 calories a day your body wouldn't learn to burn that much. If you ate 700 a day your body wouldn't learn to need that little.

I was at my calorie limit yesterday. Starving. I had a Chicken Club Sandwich + fries at Mcdonalds......then later a chocolate shake.

I woke up a pound lighter than yesterday. My point is that one bad day won't kill you. If you gain a pound....you gain a pound. You learn from it and try not to do it again.

I dont want to encourage you to eat junk like that. I want to say that you should eat normal for dinner. Just to be clear....

Hey don't feel bad....I think most of us love peanutbutter and really don't realize exactly how much we eat sometimes.

Congratulations on losing all that weight though!

I see two solutions.

One: You ask your day or whoever not to buy it because you can't controll yourself.

Two: You controll yourself and eat it in moderation. Theres nothing wrong with having some every day, you just can't eat tons of it.

It's not unhealthy. My thighs don't touch unless I stand with my legs closed together tightly, just walking they make no contact.

Now they did make contact when I had an extra 20 pounds. Just for reference I'm a 6'1 200 pound guy.

Fitness Will this count as a moderate workout? May 29 2009

Original Post by pgeorgian:

whether a workout is light, moderate, or vigorous is completely dependent on your personal level of exertion.  think about it: my 35-minute 5k might be hard work for me, but for an elite distance runner (even if she's my age, height, and weight), it's a leisurely stroll.

as long as you feel like you're exerting yourself, you're getting benefits.  if you find that it feels too easy, work a little harder!  you'll see results.

one more tip: it can take awhile to see the results on the scale, but you'll start to notice changes in fitness and strength really quickly.  try to focus on that for the first two or three weeks, and you'll be less likely to get discouraged.

That last part is so true. I started off at 200 pounds with a goal of 185. Working out the first few days my pants started to fit more loosely, but my weight didn't change at all for a week.

Weight Loss Ice Cream-How Much, How Often? May 28 2009

As little as possible. Some people will say not at all and I completely disagree with them. If you stop eating the things you like it just makes losing and keeping the weight off harder.

What you need to learn to do is eat what you like but in moderation. Watch how much you eat during the day, exercise, and have a bowl of ice cream every few days instead of every night.

I'm 19 and at home so I understand how you feel.

It is possible to eat 'what you like' and 'enjoy yourself' and still be mindful of what you are putting in your mouth. I very much enjoy going out to dinner- we go every Friday night. The whole idea is to learn how to make sensible choices and learn behavior that will allow you to eat what you want and enjoy it and still be healthy (and...dare I say, thin). Choosing not to eat 1500 calories worth of food in one meal does not mean you are not enjoying yourself, eating what you want, or relaxing.

It would be pretty hard to eat 1500 calories in one meal. That would have to include drinks and so on.

Every single decision you make in your life doesn't have to be based upon calories. Even if she was able to eat 1500 calories worth of food, that isn't even a pound. Doing that once every few weeks or months isn't going to ruin her life. I'm not saying you can't enjoy eating things that are good for you, but sometimes you have to not worry.

In reality we're talking a maximum difference of maybe 200 calories in her dish. Which is my point here. She doesn't have to choose the healthiest thing on the menu. She should choose to eat what she wants to eat. Not have to worry about "No cheese no sauce no this no that" because in reality one meal wont make a difference. The only way it does is if you let one meal turn into two...then three...so on.

I've lost 20 pounds (about 10 more to go) and I still eat fast food, energy drinks, and candy bars. Not every day of course, but those are probably FAR worse than anything she is going to eat one night at dinner.

Foods Eating for your ancestry? What is your take on it? May 28 2009

Like someone said our ancestors also worked a heck of a lot harder. Even on farms a lot of things are done with machines and computers now. Back in the day there was a lot more work. Not to say a lot of people don't work hard now, it's just different.

The food was better for you in a lot of ways, but it doesn't matter if I were to eat what my ancestors ate or what a mexicans ancestors ate. The point is to eat good foods.
