I rowed 1k today....I had every intention of rowing more right after getting water; but, alas, I completely forgot about that until I just sat down at my computer.  I must have been distracted...

At least I'm at an even 14k now!  Now bad luck for me Laughing

Thank goodness.  Now I can rest easy.  I was worried for your safety Frown

Cool picture by the way Smile

4.5KM this week for a total of 15KM over all. I won't make it to 30. There is always next month!

No worries about the 30 km goal.  You're doing great.  Keep at it.

I am back to try again!  I've been getting soft and sluggish and need to get back into my routine.  My neck and shoulders have been  tight, I thought rowing my help stretch things out. I do feel better, hopefully won't be in too much discomfort tomorrow!

So no set goal (yet), but put me down for 2.8 km for today.

Welcome back mg.  I will bet that rowing will help the soft and the sluggish.  Keep at it a little at a time.

13 km total it is.  You have to do at least 1 more km this month.  You mustn't end at 13...bad luck and all.

2x 2k yesterday - 11k total!

It must be something in the air...I've had a lot on my mind lately and erging has just not been a priority.  Also, I'm finally able to run almost every day again so that has become my preference.

Running is wonderful.  The important thing is to keep working out, regardless of what type of exercise.

4 km is great.

BAH I'm so anti-social in this thread this month...I'll work on that.

I'm just posting to say that I'm erging tonight.  If I fail to post my distance tomorrow morning I'll pay for someone to fly here and slap me.

No running will be permitted for maxx tonight and erging will take its place.

Maybe if its out there in the open I'll actually stick to it!

Is it something in the air?  I'm feeling sluggish as well; have been for a couple of months.  Ever since we moved to a new place, I'm finding it difficult to get motivated - or I should say that I'm finding outside distractions more interesting.

Keep plugging away Maxx.  We'll all get there eventually.  This is the true meaning of 'slow and steady wins the race'.

Excellent dabrock.  I know what you mean about wanting to be out on the water.  We just moved to a village by a river and I hear that there's a rowing club somewhere around here.  I'm really going to have to look into that.

Greetings Oarsman and all,  I am having trouble figuring out where to post my mileage/kilometers.  So Here is my ERG total since the 1st  24240 meters  plus yesterday we did a 23 kilometer row on the water! That is the longest I have ever rowed..or swept..or crewed...I still dont know how to figure all this.  WE had a wonderful row out. The mist was pretty bad, our bow couldn't see much more than 30 feet with his mirror. But our cox had us going  down the river over to the side and watching carefully.  Coming back we passed lots of sailboats and motor boats..."The snow birds heading South. The joys of rowing on the intercostal waterway.

I will figure out the whole milage vs meters soon.... What a wonderfull sport this is...ANd then again there is the erg...

24.24 km on the erg and 23 km on water.  That's 47.24 km total.  Wonderful.

The water row sounds fantastic.  I really have to try to get out into the real world one day.  All this indoor rowing is great, but nothing like being on water.

Keep at it and post your indoor and outdoor totals as you row them.

Nice work Maxx.  How are you finding the workouts?

As for me, I am great when I row, but getting motivated to do the work is troublesome.  I need to be about 30 years younger, methinks.

Actually, 4.5KM total (1.5KM  each on the 4th, 5th and 6th) sorry I wasn't clearer on that.

It's fun getting back into it I just need to work on the specific endurance for those muscle groups, and increase the efficiencies and I'll be moving my distances up. Forearms where the only sore spot first couple days but they have adjusted. Laughing

You may want to post your total for each session dabrock; that will allow you to be sure that I don't miss a post.

Take it slowly as you get back into it.  As you say, there are different muscle groups being worked, and they will need time to build.

That makes 3 km total, right?  From your post I'm not sure if the 11/05 entry you wrote is the same as the previous post or an additional row.

Either, you're doing great.  How do you like coming back to rowing?

I've rowed before in the past including a little on the water as well, which is a lot harder than it looks, especially if you don't want to keep swimming back to the dock. Embarassed It is great exercise and at least the machines don't require knowledge of all the technical stuff.Laughing

Just count the extra swim to the dock as cross-training Wink

I started today, kinda involuntarily because it was part of a crossfit/kettlebell workout, but I'll aim for at least 30km this month since I'm already underway and I could use a new activity in my routine.

Currently, 1.5km/30km.

Welcome dabrock.  Have you ever rowed before?  If not, then I think that you'll find it a great exercise.

Welcome to crew juls.  any rowing you do in the month of the challenge will count towards the goal.

This is the November challenge, so row away and let us know how far you've gone.  And, while you're at it, tell us about yourself.  We like new people and would like to get to know you.

Oops...bad Oarsman, bad Oarsman.  I've been swamped at work and have had very little time to do anything else that's actually useful.

Okay, I've posted the November challenge

Great idea with the cross-training maxx.  I wish that I could still run, but those days are over for me.

Let's see if this month can be an improvement.

Row on everyone!

oK, sounds like a goal. I will be on water in the am and also need to do my ranking piece for C2   hope they have a rank low enought for my time. I just need to establish a base to start from.  Do most of you ERG or row on water?

Most of us are indoors.  You'll find that some of the CC rowing crew have been a little scarce here.  We're in a bit of a drop in participation; some with injuries, others just taking it a little slowly.  Hopefully you'll be able to inject some energy back into the group.

Let us know how your water-rowing goes.  I just moved to a new place and there is a rowing club very near to me.  I'm going to look at joining them after this winter.  The river here in NY is spectacular; I can imagine that rowing in the early morning will be wonderful.

I guess my goal is going to row at least 5000 meteres a day till Thanksgiving , and then to join the Holiday challange on the concept 2 site.  For the next 3 weeks I am doing to attempt the 3 week winter training plan. Plus I row on the water on the weekends.  Do I need to figure out mileage?  Holly

That all sounds like some wonderful workout sessions.  The 5000 m until Thanksgiving should be about 120 km.  I don't know aobut the winter training plan nor about the on-water rowing.  Why don't I put you down for 150 km for November and see how that goes.  Does that sound okay to you?

You are more than welcome to add the on-water rowing if you know how far you've rowed.  A good estimate will be fine too.

I'll have the November challenge up soon; maybe this month I'll actually get some decent rowing done.  Until then you can post your results here. Happy rowing.

Hi Follyhox,

Welcome to our rowing club.  The rules are easy.  You row then post your distance.  While you're at it, post how your session went and anything else that you want to share.  We all try to keep each other motivated and chat about anything and everything.

At the start of the month we set goals for ourselves, but sometimes, like this month, the goal is really just something to think about.  I personally have had a tough time getting back on the rower after a recent move to a new place.

If you want to join in, just post your goal, and I'll add you to next month's challenge.

4.5 km today. I am really slow, the more I try to focus on having faster splits the worse they become!  My husband decides to give the rower a try and gets faster splits than I could ever do. I guess I am just going to have to try to be the tortoise in this trip down the nile...

What's your stroke rate?  How many strokes per minute are you doing?

In rowing, sometimes slowing down actually speeds you up.  What I mean is that sometimes if you lower your strokes per minute it will feel that you are rowing slower, but in fact your splits may get better.

Does your rower measure the strokes per minute as well as splits?

Trying to get back into the grove. 4.2 km yesterday.

Hope to start making this a habit again.  The weather has been less than desirable, so I don't think I'll be out on the bike this week.

Looking forward to reading all of your progress!

Maxx -- bummer re: your injury.  I'd still ice and elevate to reduce swelling, even if there is no pain. An anti-inflammatory might be good too.

Getting back into this is proving to be a really difficult thing for me.  I've stopped walking and rowing.   Nice work with the 4.2 k, I know how difficult it is to get back.

10/12 - 3 miles commute.

10/13 - 3 miles commute.

Total walked: 26 miles.

The miles are definitely not what they used to be before the move.  It's time to start hiking through some of the trails we have nearby.  How would one count how many miles walked through trails?

I use walkjogrun to figure my walks around Carbondale.  It's a google map based site so perhaps your trails are there too.  Google walkjogrun and see if you can create a route for your area!

Thanks, great site.  I was using mapmywalk.com but this seems like it may be better.  Unfortunately it doesn't have any trails, but I'll see if I can fake it somehow.

And thanks brendenj and foisgras.  I will have to think about what to do.  Perhaps that pedometer will work.  I just got a trail map as well so I'll see if I can somehow map the trails on kmyla's walkjogrun.

brendenj, I am so looking forward to the fall colors.  The leaves have just started to turn, and even with the little bit of color, it is spectacular.

I lived for most of my adult life in Los Angeles.  This is better.
