I completed Day 1 of Level 2. It was hard! It works different muscles and the cardio moves are more challenging. Feeling it as I sit at work now... |

Original Post by crazyperson01: I do the same thing. I actually copy the pace that spinning classes go at. Hills and valleys are the best for maximum calories burned. Have you tried Banish Fat/Boost Metabolism by Jillian. If you have strong knees, I would definitely do this DVD. I have bad knees and all the lunges, squats are too difficult on the joints. But, it's a KILLER workout! I love Jillian's style and her workouts are SO easy to follow. |

Original Post by crazyperson01: Hills are great! If you have gears on your bike, pump up the resistance a few notches and challenge yourself. I did this on my own, and my quadriceps (upper thighs) and glutes became very toned. Sometimes, it's easy to ride leisurely outside, enjoying nature. My philosophy is, if you sweat (a lot), you did good! |

Original Post by crazyperson01: Absolutely...30 minutes on the bike is cardio as long as you're keeping your heart rate up and not riding too leisurely. :) Interval training is best, so ride fast for 1 minute, slow for 1 minute, etc. Most effective when burning calories. Biking has toned my ass and legs and the shred is great for arms/shoulders/abs. It's definitely a lower impact cardio workout on your knees. For 30 minutes of vigorous biking, I log that as about 345 calories in CC. So, it's around 500 calories for the shred/cardio workouts combined. Keep us posted on your progress! |

Original Post by allyson613: I'm not too technical about it, but I plug in 20 minutes of calisthenics to the activity log on CC and it gives me 184 calories burned. The most accurate way would be to use a Polaris heart rate monitor to track calories burned based upon your individual stats (weight, height...). I'd prefer to underestimate the calories burned and be surprised, than overestimate. |

Original Post by crazyperson01: Don't get discouraged. The scale wasn't budging either and went up a bit for me too. Maybe you should try incorporating 30 minutes of cardio to the workout. The shred alone isn't going to offer substantially dramatic results, but I'm surprised at your level, you haven't noticed a significant change. And you're maintaining a daily/weekly calorie deficit? You're building muscle I'm sure, causing the scale to remain the same or move up a tad. But, definitely bump up your daily cardio workouts to 30 - 40 minutes. That should work! Otherwise, I'm gonna get after Jillian because she says to email her if the results aren't there... |

Original Post by skinnycherry: Day 7 Level 1...done. 30 minutes indoor spin...done. I noticed I want to do more reps of the shred. I can do 22 push ups (girl style) vs. the 10 that were hard before I started the shred. My arms and shoulders are a lot more defined. This is my trouble area.

Original Post by lorimccallum: I totally took Saturday and Sunday off too. Nice break, but back to the Shred! I'm on Day 6 of Level 1. I wore tank tops and a bikini over the weekend and noticed my arms, abs, and legs are more toned only after 5 sessions. I'm doing 30 minutes of spinning on my indoor road bike with the shred. I feel the 20 minutes isn't enough for best results. Keep it up! |

I always try to stay 200 - 300 calories (eat meter) below my burn meter. That way, I'm never full and lethargic feeling from eating til I'm stuffed. |

Original Post by rntkcrawford: Definitely join in! I am F/28/5'7"/152. I'm aiming for 145, then 140. I don't want to be TOO thin because I like to enjoy food and have a womanly figure. Well, the scale is SLOWLY going down for me now that I'm doing the shred and definitely getting more toned all over. |

Jillian officially kicked my ass! After 3 days of shred and 3 banish fat boost metabolism...I was officially spent yesterday all day at work. Could have literally passed out at my desk on my keyboard. So...I thought I'd treat myself to a 75 minute Shiatsu massage. It was incredible! I left feeling like I could get shredded again! If anyone is feeling so sore that a workout is absolutely the worst sounding thing to do...get a massage. They can be pricey, but well worth the money if you can afford it. You will be up on your feet and back at em. So, 1 day off workout today, then back at it tomorrow for Day 4 of shred level 1. |

To answer your question, crazyperson01, I would need to know your stats and I wish I could predict the future, but you know...If you stick to your calorie deficit to lose weight in line with your goals and do the workout, I can't imagine you're really going to be gaining "bad" weight if any at all. By reading so many posts about the shred, most people noticeably toned up and even lost 5 - 10 lbs. It all depends on your activity level and how many calories you're taking in. You get it. :) I am here with you though...I want to lose 5 - 10 lbs and it's been SUCH a challenge!!!! I'm hoping the shred is going to jumpstart as I got in such a workout rut...did cardio for about 4 months straight and no toning. I lost 25 lbs total, but I have some toning to do now. Come on shred...shred me! |

Original Post by crazyperson01: I don't want to gain any weight either, but I'd rather look toned than be a flabby skinny chick. lol You may gain muscle at first, and that may add weight, but stick with it and you'll most likely see results. I'm on Day 4, but on Level 1, so I'm there with you! |

I've done BFBM twice and I felt like throwing up both times I did it. Am I doing something wrong? I finished the whole workout, but I felt nauseous. I think it's a REALLY awesome workout, a challenge for me and I'm in pretty good shape. I like how there are no weights required, so I alternate days with the 30 Day Shred. Should I eat something before? I do the workout just after waking up in the morning before work, so I eat breakfast after the workout. Help! :) |

I completed Day 4 of the shred and it's getting easier. JM is right, one's endurance and stamina increases with more practice. More motivation to stick with it. Plus I've noticed my legs look more toned. I guess I can deal with the toned look of my arms if I know they're getting stronger, not BIG looking. :) Incorporating 20 minutes of pilates after the shred feels good after that workout. Really relaxes and works different muscles in a variety of ways. I also am doing an hour walk at night. Keep up the hard work everyone!!! |

Yvarner...I'm using 3 lb weights. It's challenging, but I also know I am capable of lifting 5. I just don't want to get too muscular. I hear 3 lb is good to start. Hmmm, retaining water in my muscles? I've never heard of that. I will start measuring too as sometimes eyeballing the size isn't the most accurate method. Thanks! |

Has anyone noticed their arms getting bulky doing the shred? I'm concerned about this...as I don't like that look. OK, I'm only going on day 4 of the shred, so maybe I should wait...Any thoughts? |

I am on day 3 of the 30 day shred and I have noticed a difference already. Prior to starting the shred, I was in a workout rut. Level 1 is challenging and I consider myself to be in pretty good shape. Jillian is easy to follow, the moves are basic, yet challenging, and I sweat a ton in just the 20 minutes the workout runs. The combination of strength, cardio, and abs are definitely the best way to get shredded fast. I am switching between the shred and Blast Fat, Boost Metabolism (both workouts are on youtube). On shred days, I do a 20 minute Mari Winsor pilates dvd and the next, just the BFBM. I would love to stay motivated with other CC members. |

I'm not very busy at work and I also sit all day at an office job, so I am really dilligent about logging my calories and planning my meals/snacks. I eat to fuel my body, so I don't get sluggish sitting here all day. I also drink a lot of green and herbal hot tea. Really keeps me full and awake. Anyways, when I get home, I eat my nice healthy dinner and then all I want to do is eat everything in sight. So, I blow it frequently. I don't keep any food/snacks in the house that will really sabotage my weight loss efforts, but I'll eat 3 apples or 3 cups of soup or 2 sweet potatoes with a ton of ketchup. Anything salty or sweet is my weakness. I find if I have an alcoholic drink at night, it triggers the bingeing even more. Basically, when we do this, we are filling a void emotionally because trust me, I'm definitely not eating all that food because I'm hungry. Sounds bad, but if you're gonna binge, try to binge on fruits and veggies. Candy and fast food burgers are the WORST offenders! Also, go on a walk, it really helps to get out of the house and your mind off the food there. |

I've called in sick because of how ill I felt from bingeing the night before. I've probably missed 4 days of work due to this...over the past 4 years or so. I feel horrible for doing it, and for eating SO much junk food in one sitting. |

I can totally relate to you. I too lost about 30 lbs over this past year. I took it slow, the healthy way, had many bumps in the road. I lost the weight the healthy way for once. And, it's finally staying off. But, yes, lately, I too have become bored of the workouts, the healthy foods, and have been having free days a little too often. I gained 5 lbs and I'm not totally bummed about it. I know what I did to gain the weight...binge drinking then binge eating. I think if I gave up alcohol altogether, I would absolutely achieve my weight loss goals much faster. But, I want this to be a lifestyle change and not a diet. I can't say no to having wine with girlfriends or throwing back a couple drinks out on the weekends. No matter what, I always seem to eat way too much after I drink and there's all my progress out the door. If you're sick of your workout routine, try something new. If you are bored with the same old healthy foods or meal plan, then switch it up. I have recently done both and feel back on track. I even was able to have a small glass of wine tonight with dinner and passed on all the yummy desserts everyone else was indulging in. If nothing works, then maybe consider seeking the advice of a therapist. Something is definitely triggering your desire to binge after all your hard work. Sometimes, I feel like I need a project to work on, so gaining weight and losing it, is kind of like a project. Journalling and maybe joining a local OA group. You will discover there are so many people out there dealing with the same issue and you can really learn a lot from their struggles/recoveries. Good luck! |

I just bought a food scale and I was really surprised at how much I was underestimating the amount of protein I was eating. The size of chicken breasts varies so much, in thickness and weight, so having this scale is really going to help me accurately count calories. I bought the Biggest Loser scale. It is digital, so easy to read and was only $20. Worth it. |

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
