i agree, if they approached the show (or if the show itself was designed with) a healthy outlook i think it'd be much more watchable (they were literally feeding each other cake last night!) that's what i was trying to get at by bringing up biggest loser. now that's a great show! but i know there are some people content with their bodies, and we should all strive for that. and ps. you look freaking fantastic! congrats on your success so far |

brtaylor, i totally agree. and x17star17x, Your point is very valid - this show is just as bad as all the other crap that's on tv. It's all awful & you're right on there. The only difference, in my opinion, is that those other shows all promulgate stereotypes that, we are led to believe, are a result of free will (the rock of love girls are wrking to be less trashy & drink less excessively etc). This show portays fatness as something of a disability, something many of these girls were "cursed" with & cannot change. I know there are genetic influences & issues that make it harder for some to lose weight but the fact is, the vast majority of fat people got there on their own. (I know bc I was one of them). A show like biggest loser, I'm all for it. Teach these unhappy people how to change the situation they're in. Some may say "what if they don't want to change? they just want to find fat person love!" Well in my experience, there are very few ppl who are trulyyy ok with being severely overweight. If they can own it, more power to 'em, but the sad sobbing girls on that show didn't appear to be owning anything. They kept saying how they hated always been treated differently bc of their weight but the show is doing exactly the same thing. Sectioning off a subset of the population (fat ladies) & giving them a fat guy to swoon over because, well, no one else wants them. It just seems counter-intuitive to me. |

i just saw it for the first time tonight. OH MY GOD. i am so irritated by this show. it was just one big sob fest. like i understand feeling inferior because people have treated them differently because of their appearances - fine. but they all are head over heels on day 1 (for a guy who, not for nothing, seems like a bit of a creeper) simply because he's giving them the tiniest bit of attention! what a terrible stereotype to promote - the desperate clingy fat girl - how sad. and putting them in bathing suits & feeding them cake? c'mon now. i think these chicks need to get their acts together. maybe they should consider that the reason "no one has ever loved them" isn't because of their weight, but because of some sort of character/personality flaw that is an internal issue (perhaps the real reason they've been & stayed fat). i think it does all of us (as people actively seeking to better ourselves) a disservice. oy, thanks for listening to my rant! |

i eat anywhere from 1200-1300 on weekdays, more on weekends. i am particularly strict during the week in order to give myself some room on Fri & Sat. i'm also only 5'2'' and very small framed. i keep my deficit between 500-800 a day & have plenty of energy to do what i've gotta do, including my workouts. my numbers have me theoretically losing about 1 lb a week which is a healthy loss rate |

generally i aim for 20/20/50 (prot/fat/carb). as far as the workout is concerned, i wanted to avoid having to buy books & things like that since i have some resources (like you guys) to tap into already. thanks for your response! |

thanks! that makes sense - that might have been what he said too i probably just misunderstood. i'm starting out with 10 lb dumbbells which are definitely heavy enough for now. the flys are really hard, everything else so far seems manageable. and it's good to know i can cut out those repetative supersets if i'm short on time some days. thanks again! |

today's plan: bf- coffee with half & half and splenda, 0% fage greek yogurt with 1/2 cup kashi go lean crunch mixed in (225) lunch- salad (lettuce, cucumber, celery, carrots, red onion) with 1/3 cup dried cranberries, 1 tbsp flaxseed and 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar, 1/2 cup of strawberries (256) snack- 1 cup baby carrots (70) dinner- i'm going out to eat with friends but i found the menu online & the plan is to get the Chopped Veggie Salad (grilled zucchini, squash, asparagus, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, artichoke hearts & grilled chicken) with their lightest possible dressing, prob oil & vinegar. perhaps a light beer or 2 (hopefully less than 700 cals all together) and nice plan katie above me! i wish i liked avocado in forms other than guacamole haha oh also, i don't know if you're picky with your milk choices but i really like Skim Plus skim milk - it's only 55 cals for 1/2 cup & tastes pretty good considering |

i'm 5'2'', small frame. my starting weight was about 140 - current weight is 120.4 - i am so close to breaking 120 i can taste it!!! my ultimate goal is 110, just to see what it looks like on me. if i'm comfortable there & can maintain it then great but i'd be fine with floating around 115. good luck everyone! |

cheese is a big one for me also. chocolate too - some types don't tempt me at all, but when there are reeses or m&ms in the house, i'm in trouble. fyi lovegrowsontrees, lately i've been hooked on low fat graham crackers with a tablespoon of light cool whip. stick those babies in the freezer & they make a great little ice cream sandwich! |

| Fitness | ok so how many cals should I eat? | Jul 02 2009 20:35 (UTC) |

okay but here's the thing. when i enter height/weight/age & set to sedentary (which is what i have been doing) my burn meter says 1530. fine. when i exercise i burn somewhere between 300-400 cals bringing me to 1830-1930. also good. so if i eat 1200 cals i have somewhere between a 630-730 deficit each day. that doesn't seem entirely unreasonable. CC says it's a healthy rate of weight loss. and yet every forum & many posts seem to doubt whether it's enough. this is why i'm confused. |

that's what CC tells me is the minimum - when i enter my current weight, height & age that's what they give me |

you're definitely eating too little. you should be consuming AT LEAST 1200 a day (that's the minimum for me and i'm 5 inches shorter than you.) |

Original Post by eddiepotter: thanks eddie haha. i dont really want to be "skinny" actually. i'd be very happy floating between 115-120 but i kinda want to get to 110 just to see how it looks, i don't necessarily want to maintain it. anyway, even tho skinny is a "no no" as you put it, a firm belly & tone arms are definitely a yes. any suggestions there? |
