| Vegetarian | Is this too much soy in one day? | Sep 15 2009 05:53 (UTC) |

In my opinion, that is way too much soy to be eating on a daily basis, but I avoid soy like the devil. Soy is extremely estrogenic, as you may have heard.
Like the above poster said, try to vary your protein sources. |

| Weight Loss | How to resist this food? | Sep 14 2009 21:54 (UTC) |

I have the same issue at my house- my parents buy treats that they never end up eating. It's toough to look at them every day but not eat them But you cant throw them out or give them away because your parents bought them, paid money for them and not yoy, so it's not your choice.
What you have to do is just deal with it. You can't evacuate it from the house, but you can try and put it out of your mind. Just keep the stuff you normally eat very visable in the fridge and cabinets so that they are easily accessible, and maybe push the crappy food to the less visable places of the fridge. And use some self-control. You can do it, it's for your body. You only get one, treat it with respect. |

| Vegetarian | Raw Vegans- anyone? | Sep 11 2009 02:01 (UTC) |

I've been raw vegan before for months at a time. You definitely don't need a food proccessor or even a blender.
There are many different approaches to this lifestyle, namely a low fat high fruit approach or a anything-you-want-as-long-as-it's-raw approach. For a low fat raw diet, you eat mainly fruit and vegetables, with minimal amounts of nuts and seeds and oily fruit. The anything goes approach you eat as many nuts seeds fruits and veggies as you want, in any amount. I honestly don't think either way of eating is healthy or balanced.
I think this diet is lacking in protein no matter how you slice it, but it's your choice. some people claim to thrive, I have done a raw diet for many many months at a time, and felt good, but did notice some muscle wasting, which is an awful thing. I lost muscle tone, meaning I must have gained fat but lost muscle.
rawfoodtalk.com, 30bananasaday.com, giveittomeraw.com all will give you some more information. I would also check out Beyondveg.com to give another perspective.
I highly doubt that a raw food diet will be supported on this site though; I would encourage a more balanced approach to eating, and that can be done while still being vegan. Pm me if you want more info |

| Health & Support | Gained 10lbs during a 3 day binge. | Aug 26 2009 00:03 (UTC) |
6 |
First of all, if you really consumed upwards of 10,000 calories per day, your body probably went into a hypermetabolic state because it was such a shock, meaning its highly unlikely that all of the extra weight you have right now is actually fat. If you only "gained" 10 pounds from that, a few of the pounds is DEFINITELY the food that is still in your digestive tract, and also partly water weight.
There's no doubt that you did gain fat though. Probably only a couple pounds though. go back to eating normally, try to limit salt though and drink lots of water.
Secondly, I think you need to seriously asses what caused you such a self-destructive binge!? That is very dangerous for your body. Are you underweight or been restricting calories too severely? These are the main causes for people to binge on such a severe level.
Be very careful, you only get one body! Good luck |

| Weight Loss | Does caloric source make a difference? | Jul 27 2009 06:19 (UTC) |
5 |
It definitely makes a difference in health, and even in weight loss.
Becasue if you ate 1500 calories of junk food, there would be little fiber, and your body does not get any calories from fiber, so you would end up with more calories absorbed by the end of the day, than if you ate 1500 calories of whole grains fruits and veggies, etc |

| Weight Loss | Do You Eat Healthy Foods But Do Not Exercise? | Jun 27 2009 14:03 (UTC) |
5 |
If you don't exercise wwhile losing weight, then you are going to lose a lot more muscle than if you were exercising, leaving you with a much higher body fat percentage. So lets say you lost 25 kg while exercising and weight training, you might get down to lets say 18 percent body fat, whereas losing 25 kg without any exercise could leave you at the exact same weight, but with 25% body fat. Exercise is absolutely vital to long term health, ask any doctor. Be thankful that you are healthy and blessed enough to be ABLE to exercise, and put your body to good use! |

9 cups of cherries is 780 calories, which is a lot, but not binge status. Maybe eat cherries in smaller amounts throughout the day rather than all at once, so the cherry lust dies down a bit |

Maybe try eating some protein right before you go to sleep as a preventative measure. Just so you can sleep through the night. it is not good for you to be waking up to eat in the middle of the night, you need solid sleep. |

if you are doing long distance running, there is a HUGE reason to not get all your carbs from fruits---fruit sugar is generally composed of 50% glucose, and 50% fructose. Fructose cannot bbe stored in muscle glycogen, it is only stored in the liver. The liver can only hold about 90 grams of carbs. So after that 90grams of fructose carbs is eaten, any extra will just be stored as fat, because it cannot possibly be stored in muscle glycogen. ANY other type of carrb such as glucose, which is what starches are broken down into, will be stored in the muscle glycogen. Muscle glycogen can hold up to 400 grams of carbs! This means looooong lasting energy for long runs! |

I am being honest, you look really good! Bloating can make you feel bigger than usual, so that could possibly be what has happened (although you don't look bloated at all to me). If your period is coming, that could cause bloating. Give it a few days...you look awesome by the way |

| Foods | Too much fruit a bad thing? | Jun 10 2009 04:53 (UTC) |
4 |
too much of anything is bad, that is what "too much" means. But incoorporating lots of fruits into your diet is fine, just make sure you are getting all your macronutrients in proper proportions and all the nutrients you need. Summer = yummy fruits. And if you are trying to lose weight, count the fruit calories |

| Weight Loss | Fruits - Are they actually necessary? | Jun 10 2009 04:47 (UTC) |
30 |
there are no nutrients that any fruit has that a variety of vegetbales can't provide. Fruit are generally higher in vitamins, while vegetables are generally higher in minerals, but with a variety of vegetables, it will be easy to get the same amount of vitamins as fruit provides. Vitamin C is especially high in broccoli and lettuce |

| Foods | I loathe fruit | Jun 10 2009 03:33 (UTC) |

Lookks like you got some great answers, but I just wanted to reinforce that you absolutely do not NEED to eat fruit if you are eating a lot of vegetables. Fruit is higher in vitamins than vegetables, and vegetables are higher in minerals than fruit, generally, but as long as you eat a variety of vegetables you will get more than enough vitamins. Don't just eat carrots, there is very little vitamin C in them. Vitamin C is high in lettuce and broccoli |

| Foods | Fat in Oatmeal | Jun 06 2009 18:17 (UTC) |

1/2 cup oatmeal is a lot of oatmeal if you add a lot of water, it can be a huge bowl-full! 3 grams of fat is very little! Especially for that much food! I've been eating oatmeal by the bucket load recently and am 6 pounds from my goal weight...have lost 4 pounds in the past week. |
