It was REALLY hard and demotivating. I even started running and worked my way up to 30 minutes at a time and the scale still wouldn't budge. I guess waiting out that stubborn month long plateau finally paid off! |

I also experience lonliness from time to time. I am really way too careful and cautious about putting myself out there enough for people to get to know and like me. I'm usually very reserved and agreeable when I'm around people that I haven't known for a long time. It takes me a long time to open up. I think that is a huge contributor to my lonliness. I can't get over the fear of rejection enough to give meeting new people a try. I am very close to my mom as well and consider her to be my best friend. I've slowly become more aware though of what I do that makes people less likely to pursue a friendship with me and have been trying to improve on it. I see a therapist about 1x a month (can't afford any more) and do dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) sessions. Just being aware and "mindfull" of what it is that I'm doing wrong seems to be helping me feel more comfortable and complete around other people. I definately used to feel like I was constantly on the outside looking in on everybody when I hung out with more than 1 person at a time. To a certain degree I still do sometimes but it's a work in progress. Keep your head up and if you ever need anyone to talk to about anything you can private message me. I'm on here alot. |

| Foods | Question about oatmeal | Jul 15 2009 16:52 (UTC) |

It depends on your carb intake during the rest of the day really. In the mornings I eat 1/2 a cup of oatmeal made with water and 81g of banana cut up and on top of it. I usually eat a yogart with it (low carb yogart b/c it has more protein) so that the macro nutrients aren't leaning so heavily towards the carbs and so that it keeps me full longer. That's 49 carbs which is kindof high (45 w/out the yogart). I used to put artificial sweetner in it (equal) until I found out how bad they are for your metabolism. I cut way back on the equal now and just put in a tsp of brown sugar in it. IMPO, I think that it's better to eat most of your carbs earlier in the day and then lower carb more fat and protein rich foods after 3:00 pm. I have been losing weight more quickly than I was before I started doing this. I got the idea from one of my friends who is a personal trainer. |

http://caloriecount.about.com/cheating-diet-i ncrease-fat-loss-ft7139 This is like, the 4th time I've posted this link in a response. LOL, but it's because it's definately been working for me. I also had a 2 week plateau, but I definately started coming off of it since I followed the advice from the link above. I was 107 on July 4th and now 104.8 at 4'11. I was going to try eating maintence calories for a little while, but the advice in the thread has been good for my weightloss. Also, 45 grams of fiber is ALOT. You might try cuting back to 30 or 35 and see if that helps. Usually if I eat over 30 g. of fiber in one day, I do not get to go to the bathroom the next day, and it makes me very sad. I was going to try eating maintence calories for a little while, but the advice in the thread has been so far true for me. |

| Weight Loss | birthday splurging? | Jul 13 2009 16:05 (UTC) |

I don't know what your stats are but personally on my "splurge" days I try not to go over my maintenece calories. If, for example, I know we're having cake I'll try to find out what kind it's gonna be. I check nutrition on the box the mix is in if its gonna be a homemade one or select something in the CC food database that is close to it. But just practice some portion control and do eat what you want. I tried to keep track of what and how much I ate by logging stuff in on here so I didn't go completely overboard. Even if you go above maintenence, it's gonna be ok. On the 4th of July I probably ate around 2000 calories (I'm on 1200-1300 normally) and after the next day of inevitable water weight from all the salt and sugar, was back to my weight before I ate all that junk. It was just for a day though. Since I ate a little bit of everything I wanted, I was able to start fresh the next day and finally be rid of some of the cravings that I'd been ignoring for so long. There is a really good thread on here that I read before I started my day. It's about having cheat days to speed up your metabolism and prevent or get off of stubborn plateaus. So far I've been following the advice AND I've started losing weight again (had been on a 2 week plateu of 107 before, now 104.8). Here's the thread. I'm such a dork. I usually research something to find out how to do it "correctly" before I actually do it. http://caloriecount.about.com/cheating-diet-i ncrease-fat-loss-ft7139 Sorry this was so long, and it may have been more info than you needed or asked for.I just thought that it might help you relax and enjoy your well deserved day of celebration without stressing about hypothetical consequences. More than likely, one day isn't going to undo all of your hard work. Happy Birthday hun! |

Your bangs are REALLY straight across. If you got them cut to be a little jagged I think it would look better. Also, the length would probably be more flattering if you got some long and medium layers put in and styled the bottom of your hair with a round brush to give it some volume if you want to leave the length. The following picture is one with a shorter hairstyle but I think the bangs would look great on you. http://www.hairstyle-blog.com/the-shattered-s hag-hairstyle-look.html |

I'm 4'11 & 3/4 and 105.6lbs. It stinks! I've been dieting for almost 2 months and haven't even lost 2 lbs. because my calorie deficit is so low.I have about 1500 on burn meter and min. of 1200 cal. It's definately harder for us shorties to lose weight and it takes more time, I think. Anyways, I'll be there for ya anytime you need to talk or want some input. I am steadily losing weight now(slowly but surely) and since we are almost the same size I might be able to help. |

I personally do believe that eating the majority of your calories at one time is not good for your metabolism. You should spread your calories throughout the day. 1,000 calories for breakfast may be a little excessive for a single meal.I eat every 3-4 hrs and have been losing weight faster than when I was just eating 3 times a day. It's been working for me |

Artificial sweetners are not good for your metabolism. They teach your body to ignore sugar as a source of calories. In small amounts this probably wouldn't happen but if you are consuming mostly diet drinks it could have an ill effect. |

I'm really glad you've decided to get better. For long term recovery, I think going IP or seeing a therapist is pretty important given how long you have struggled with your ed. You didn't develope those attitudes and habits and everything that comes with it over nite and you will be hard pressed to develope new and healthy ones on your own because you have forgotten what healthy is (i know i did). I quit on my own a couple of times but it didn't last. I always went back to my old habits after I gained enough to be considered healthy again. I liked the fact that being in IP, I always had someone I could talk to about my concerns. It's really scary admitting that you can't do it on your own and putting yourself under hospital's care. But I'm really glad that I finally did b/c it really helped me. If you don't go IP at least try to see a therapist or some type of professional that you can talk to and remember to listen. I wish you the best and lots of luck in your recovery. You can do it. |

| Weight Loss | I'm ate 900 calories yesterday when I normally eat 400, and I gained .5 pounds....? | Jul 06 2009 04:46 (UTC) |

If you don't believe that you're thin at 109lbs and 5'3 you may have Body Dismorphic disorder. I suffer from this. I find that the only way I can tell if I look "thin enough" is if I take a picture of myself and then look at it. Give that a try. PLEASE. Also, you may simply not have a small frame. There are different body types and at your age, yours may not be entirely clear. If you want to grow into a woman (or get any taller) you will need to eat at least 1500. If you find that you gain weight and don't maintain a healthy weight with those calories, exercise more but don't eat less than that. I started starving myself when I was in 7th grade off and on until I was 21. I'm 4'11 (much shorter than my parents who are 5'7 and 6'0) and I'm 22 so I definately am stuck being short probably because I prevented myself from growing by not eating enough. Hang in there. I feel for you. I really do. I even remember not feeling hungry even though I was eating only once a day. It will take time. If you like, gradually increase your calories, like 100 more than you're eating now, every few days instead of eating 1500 right away. If you find that you can't do that on your own you should definately get some professional advice. |

| Weight Loss | 4lb GAIN in 4 days :*( | Jul 06 2009 04:27 (UTC) |
2 |
4lbs in 4 days? If you ate foods that you don't usually eat like those high in sodium you might be retaining water. If you had sweets but only use artificial sweetners and eat sugar-free foods when on your "diet" your body could have disregarded the sugar's caloric content and gone straight to storing it away as fat instead of metabolising it. SInce you didn't consume 3500 over your limit on EVERY one of your off days you shouldn't have just 4 lbs of fat so those are the only two other things I can think of. |

| Foods | High In Fibre Foods causing Bloating? | Jul 06 2009 04:09 (UTC) |
|
Just curious, how much fiber have you been consuming?I think about 25-30 grams a day is considered healthy for the average adult. There is such a thing as too much fiber. I heard somewhere that it causes the colon to age faster. Besides that, it can make you constipated if you have too much. But like lyn said, if you are just beginning to eat fiber (in a healthy amount) it WILL take your body some time to get used to it. Look at your diet too. Consuming too little fat, which lots of fruits a vegetables can lack, can also cause you to be a little..backed up if that's what you mean by feeling bloated. |

| Weight Loss | Are green tea pills really effective? | Jul 06 2009 03:58 (UTC) |

| The pills contain: Green tea leaf standardized extract -600 mg (provides 90 mg EGCG and 50 mg naturally-occurring caffeine) I don't particularly like the taste of the tea either. I was loading it up with equal until I read about how bad artificial sweetners are bad for you. Regular sugar to me isn't worth the calories b/c i'm on a 1200 cal diet so I just made myself drink it straight. Hated it at first but am becoming used to it The tea that I've been drinking is liptons and it has 130mg of green tea per bag or 8oz serving. That would be about 4.6 cups of it a day. go with the supplements if you don't like the taste of the tea but still want the benefits... I do both. They're about $15 a bottle for 90 capsules. I personally seem to lose weight and keep it off better when on them. | |||

I also heard that green tea helps to promote weight loss. Supposedly, it is supposed to keep your body from converting as much sugars, carbs, and proteins into fat. Not sure how valid that is. However, green tea has been shown to help eliminate cancer causing free radicals that are produced during exercise and muscle developement so it's good for you. The fat oxidation that green tea diet pills claim to promote probably comes from the caffeine. That being said, I recently started drinking decaf green tea instead of water ( I just got sick of regular water, really. I hate water.lol!) so that's about 4-5 cups of warm to hot tea a day. On top of that I take 2 Mega-tea diet capsules 1x a day (instead of 2x a day as recomended on the bottle cuz the caffeine is a little much for me later in the day). I have lost about 2 lbs this week, maybe a little less. It's nice because I think it has helped me to get over a plataeu I was on for about 2 weeks. Now i'm losing again. YAY! Keep in mind that is a LOT of green tea but since it's decaf (besides the 2 pills which has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee) I feel like I'm getting the benefits without feeling... uncomfortable. Melkor makes a very valid point. Green tea alone is not going to make you lose weight by itself if one doesn't adopt a healthy nutritional diet along with it. But think of it this way. You're going to be cutting that unhealthy stuff out of your diet anyway. Green tea will burn some extra calories for ya. Every little bit helps.

I actually posted the other day about this. When I feel hungry and I drink water it does increase my appetite. I don't think that I've ever felt hungry, had some water and then felt like I didn't want to eat. Of course, I'm on a 1200 cal diet and I'm still getting used to eating less. I tried drinking water to keep me from feeling hungry and it never works. It'd be nice if it did |

Adel, I think you're probably right about the jump from 1200 to 1800 being a little big. I'll definately consider that for next time. I've already planned the food for today and it's about 1700 and the burn meter is at 1400 so...I dunno. We'll see how it affects me the rest of week. |

I was put on this medication for the treatment of anxiety and bipolar disorder. I think it worked pretty well for the treatment, but after taking it I was EXTREMELY hungry after and couldn't get full no matter how much I ate. This might be different for other people, but that's just how it affected me and as a result I did stop taking it. |

I was on the shot from age 15 or 16 until I was 21. Way longer than I was supposed to be. Anyways, I'm pretty sure the shot caused me to gain because withina month after I was off it I lost about 10 lbs. It must have all been water weight, because I didn't change my eating or exercise habits at all. |

I found that running everyday for about 20 min. was great for burning fat. I dropped 2 lbs. the first week. I noticed that it was starting to make my tummy flatter as well :) very nice! It wasn't a straight run though... it was a total of about 30 min but 20 was running and I took a 1-2 min break and walked whenever i felt like I needed to and did that 6 days a week. I found that it was much easier to stick with as opposed to running longer 3 or 4 days a week. Not that much exercise but it adds up and it was a pretty good start. |
