sophiecore,

the reason you may not be losing weight is because your are restricting your calories to severely. Just at rest your body needs 1600 calories based on your ht,wt and age. Then you have to factor in that your are very very active, so you need more calories around 2765 calories. So you are not giving your body enough calories to do its normal functions. when your body goes into starvation mode, the metabolism slows down because the body is trying to conserve energy. also be a female restricting calories below 1200 puts you at risk for health problems such as missed periods, thinning of the hair, brittle hair and bones. Please be careful.also you at your ideal body weight for your height. so maybe focus more on toning. Also you may not be losing because you are building muscle, and muscle is a biggest mass than fat so it weighs more. Take yur measurements you may be losing inches.

Radiohero,

are you losing weight by doing this? initially you may but over time the weight loss will decrease because the body is going to go in starvation mode and the metabolism will slow down. you should never restrict you calories lower then 1200 calories for women and 1500 calories for men. you definetly should be eating more. restricting calories severely for a long period of time could cause health problems, especially if you are a women. So fiqure out your BMR or the aim for a healthy weight loss of 1-2 lbs a week for women and 2-3 lbs a week for men. in order to loss a 1lb a week, substract 500 calories from your daily BMR and to loss 2 lbs a week substract 1000 calories.

3500 calories=1 lb

500 calories x 7 days a week= 3500 calories

1000 calories x 7 days a week=7000 calories.

hope this helps.

Weight Loss I'm slightly confused, I think -- Calories Jun 01 2009

carpenyx,

the best way to understand this is to determine your BMR, the amount of energy(calories) your body needs very everday functions. then this is multiplied by your activity level. So if your BMR with activity is 2500 calories to maintain weight, then decreasing calories to 2000 a day would equal a 1 lb weight loss x 1 week and decreasing calories to 1500 per day would result in a 2 lb a week weight loss. Never go below 1200-1500 calories per day, this would result in your body going into starvation mode and the metabolism would slow down.

remember 3500 calories= 1 pound

so 500 calories burned x 7 days a week= 3500 calories

1000 calories x 7 days a week=7000 calories.

you could either eliminate the extra calories by exercise or eating less.

hope this helps.
