| My feet. I have lovely feet. No corns or hammer toes- just nicely shaped toes and smooth even toned skin. they are lovely whether I'm fat or not so fat. while most are trying to loose so they can bare more in the summer time- i look forward to baring my footsies no matter what the scale shows! My hands aren't bad either. | |||

| Hey there everyone
I'm still here. Progress is slow, but I havent given up. My new goal is to drop 10 lbs before new year. will sart working on that monday. its been a bad week for me health wise. had bad TOM, and several attacks of my IBS this week- stemming from over eating LAST WEEKEND! so i've been down for the count all week. But will pull myself together for the next phase of my plan- an all or nothing to the death battle for those last 10 lbs before new years. That would put me in the 280's range (285 to be exact), which i havent seen in years. |

| I think i make the biggest mistakes on weekends when i let myself get hungry- thats when all reason goes out the window! So i'm going to try to eat more during the early afternoon- instead of waiting all day to eat and find myself starved. I will eat some cereal when I get up, and have a filling lunch. I have already roasted some skinless chicken with bell peppers and carrots- which I think I'll have w/ stir fried eggplant for lunch and/or dinner sat. also- coffee is a great appitite killer for me- with low fat creamer and splenda. | |||

| Hi Shakti- I just LOVE Essence magazine too- because it features beautiful black women and black culture/ issues. I used to buy Mode Magazine before they went belly up- cause I loved images of larger lovely ladies of all backgrounds. I'm so sad they're gone. That was a real fashion mag to me.
Being plus sized in this coutry is rough- but its the only life I know. I believe that curves are beautiful and wonderful- but we all owe it to ourselves to be as healthy as possible. so I encourage anyone to get to a healthier weight- but in the mean time- enjoy yourself. dont curl up into some ball thinking that life can't be wonderful until you're a size whatever. just enjoy the moment- be happy. Thats what I'm trying to do;-) |

| Hi Seashel, and everybody-
I'm Black, and my hair is brown and short or medium length compared to most black women. I sometimes wear braided hair extensions- but find i get the most attention when I'm wearing my own hair out. I like to wear it kindy poofy- w/ big curls. i hate flat hair. Check out my profile. I agree with whomever said that no one expects a large woman to be attractive- so when u see one who is- you take notice. I think that accounts for the majority of attention I get- which believe it or not- is mostly from women. not in a gay way- but they're always checking me out- big ladies, and regular sized ones too. Sometimes I feel like they're thinking "who does she think she is- trying to look good- as fat as she is" other times i feel like they are admiring something about me. As far as what my theory is on why I get attention- I really think it boils down to my basic look. i think its a combo of my face, complexion, and figure. some black men go for lighter skin and eyes- which I have. also I have a huge bust, small waist, and big round hiney- also things that most black guys love. Mine are just kinda supersized. I dont wear much makeup- usually some lip gloss. Aside from that- I do my hair, and on special days- mabey a bit of eye makeup- a little liner or some natural looking eye shadow. Most of the guys I've met who actually approached me have told me they dont go for "big" women, but thought I was cute- including my current partner of 10 yrs. I always tell him that i've spoiled him for thin women:) |

| Hi Jenni,
I must say- this is like the funniest thing I've read here in like- forever! I am the woman you describe. I am a 300lb woman who turns heads at the market, the mall, on the street, etc. and its not my attitude that anyone is noticing- or I dont believe it is. Usually- its my hair, my outfit, I've even been complimented on my feet! I think the bottom line is- when you take time to look good and take care of yourself- others are going to notice. In a way- I can understand how you feel, because i've been on the recieving end of this type of sentiment many times, but its just funny. Just remember- everyone has their challenges in life. You need to focus on yourself- and figure out what you can do to feel better about how you look. |

| Hi Vic,
No wonder you've been stagnating. You're freakin Gorgeous! I wouldn't feel motivated to loose weight either if i looked as good as you! I had to wait until i felt too fat to look good in my clothes anymore before I got really motivated, and even still- its been a difficult road. My advice is to start out nice and easy. If you dont excercize at all- start there first. Getting fitter benefits anyone, makes you feel better, your clothes fit better, and as a result you will be looking better. Best to get started now- ASAP. if you do- its possible you'll be seeing some results byefore Xmas:) |

| I am glad everyone has been positive about my post. Like I said- i didnt want to make anyone feel bad- just realize that giving up is never the answer! I had a bad weekend food wise, but i'm right back on the wagon, making better choices and knowing that things will get better. I realize now that I am 30 lbs lighter than my heaviest weight of 324- last year. I started trying to loose, got down to 307- then gave up. so i know what I'm talking about here. Now- over a year later- i had to start over, which is so very hard, but its gettign easier. I feel like i have a good routine now, and I'm running on autopilit most days. get my workout done, pack my food for the day- and eat only what I packed. doing great- except on weekends, when I experiment with trying to eat out without gaining. the point is- this is a process, a difficult one, but not impossible. We can all find a way to make it work for us becuse we are important enough. Wheil i am no where near my goal of being under 200- I know I am definately better off now than I was at my biggest. i feel and look better. and its because- despite slow progress- i havent given up. neither should anyone w/ 100+ lbs to loose! | |||

| Well- that's why i wrote this and decided to share w/ everyone. We all need that kick sometimes. I hate it when it comes from a thin person- like my hubby- who never tried to loose weight and doesnt know what its like. But for those of us who do know and are trying- we hate to see others making excuses. If my lazy butt can workout for 30 or more a day minutes- so can anyone! that is- any healthy person w/out medical issue of course. I've added yall to my friends list. See ya around! | |||

| Hey- now that's what i'm talking about! i don't wanna be thin- i just wanna be healthy. my weight is the only medical issue i have- but its started causing others- like High bp, edema(ankles). Am I gonna let the love of Burgers ,Fries, chips, dips, icecream, bacon, etc. cheat me outta a fuller more fabulous healthy life? come on now (think extreme sarcasm here). while I still love yummy foods- i'm finding that I can enjoy heathy choices also. had tuna salad today w/ low fat mayo- I usually hate that stuff- but it tasted goo today. and eating in moderation is helping w/ some digestive issues i have (so called ibs, but i dont believe it!). the point is- w/out change there can be no progress folks. | |||

| Hi to all!
SpotsKnight- I wanted to reply to your post because i think even with a scale that works- many of us w/ a lot to loose struggle w/ our progess, or seeming lack thereof. Wht I wouls say to you is the measure of progress is more than a number on a scale. its how you feel when you walk up a flight of stairs, your clothes fitting better- etc. I'd suggest starting a workout plan- after being cleard by a DR. and measure your progress based on your routine. for ex: if you plan to walk 15 min 3 times a week, and stick to 2500 calories each day for a week- mark off each week you accomplish this as a success. Or If starting out- you can only manage 20 min on the treadmill at a moderate pace- and after 2-3 weeks you can last for 30- thats another measure of progress. The bottom line is there will be no progress w/out any effort to change. |

| I try to think of how far I have come personally, and realize that is also success. It has taken me a while to understand that success cannot just be measured by a number on a scale. I have been working hard since march, and have lost only 16 lbs, while others have lost dozens more in the same time period. however- my blood pressure finally came down into a normal range. i can workout for an hour w/out dying. My figure is looking better. I know that it may take me longer than a few months to loose everything I'd like, but if i keep going, i will get there, or at least get better! I have over 100 lbs to loose, so quitting is NOT an options, cause slow weight loss is much better than no weight loss. | |||
| Fitness | Question about cardio vs. weight training | Sep 07 2006 01:06 (UTC) |

| Hi Raehn,
I'd just like to add one other idea here which is you can start toning without decreasing the amount of cardio you are currently doing. If you workout to a cardio video say for 1 hr or 45 min or whatever a day- just start doing a toning video after that like 2-3 times a week. it will increase overall calories burned, and you wont loose any ground by decreasing your cardio. I love this one: "I want that body" by tamilee webb. It has 6 toning segments 15 min each, 2 each for arms, abs and buns/thighs. It is great cause you can choose to do any section in any order! If you go to the gym to do your cardio- likewise start staying an additional 15- 20 minutes afterward to do some toning or weight training on the various machines, or with free weights. some great excercizes that almost anyone can do are bicep and tricep curls with light free weights ( mabey try doing 3 sets of 8 using a 5lb weight), squats and lunges while holding free weights ( again- 3 sets of 8 is not a bad start, can increas reps and sets as you get stronger), and the classic crunch for the abs- all of these can be done in limited space in the gym, or on a mat in a corner somewhere. I'm no fitness guru, just a fatso who's watched and done dozens of fitness tapes:) |

| I've seen similar specials, and realize that I too will likely be faced w/ this problem, but I was hoping I'd be lucky and my skin would look normal after loosing over 100lbs. My goal weight is like 175, so mabey I'll be spared. I guess it doesnt matter anyway- still need to loose the weight. i can worry about extra skin when and if I have any. | |||

| I've been thinking about this topic a lot myself. I've lost only a little bit- like 16lbs, but already, some tops i bought at 22/24 earlier this summer dont fit well anymore. It has been a struggle for me to stop myself from stopping- cause I unlike many other large folks- Love to shop! but I dont wanna waist money on clothes i cant wear for long. I dont wear jeans, or pants- only dresses, skirts, nice sweaters and the occasional pair of gauchos. I think I'm gonna have some of my favorite clothes altered- I have some nice drsses I love and will still love at a smaller size. As far as the rest goes- I'm gonna go out of my way to find a nice deserving large young lady and give all of my fabulous clothes to her. I may have to make a special trip to a church- since thats the only place i've seen anyone nearly as large as me! | |||
| Weight Loss | Can't stop eating when I start. How do you stop | Sep 01 2006 21:06 (UTC) |

| Hi Jasmin,
I've found some foods seem to tigger a desire for me to gorge myself, so i am working very hard to stay away from them. Sugary foods- like cake and ice cream seem to make me want to eat a lot of them, and then i'll want something salty- like fried chicken! White rice makes me wild! I can eat like 5 bowls of it- with gravy and chicken of course. so I've found other foods dont ignite this response- like brown rice, chicken breast w/ stir fried veggies, eggs, soy burgers- seems i eat enough to be full- then thats it- not sneeking back for more. and the more I eat this stuff- the less I crave sweets. there may even be some scientific basis to this- ala the glycemic index stuff. whatever the case is- seems to work for me. |

| I tried Jenny and LA. Jenny really worked for me- but like every time i try to loose- I'd eventually give up. Jenny was great as far as I'm concerned- it was like a no- brainer plan, because u ate their food. at that point in my life- this was a plus, since i didnt like to cook and measure stuff. If I could afford it- I might have gone back. If you really follow their plan all the way thru- you would eventually learn to prepare your own meals, and the prepackaged food you'd been eating woulda helped you get used to smaller portions. it was just really expensive tho. LA's plan is good, but takes more thinking. less expensive than jenny- over the long run. I never tried WW- but heard nothing but good things about them. I think these programs get a bad rap from a lot of folks- and that's not fair. they have helped a lot of people loose weight. for those who need some focused one on one and a plan designed for them-and they have the$$ to spend- I'd recommend any of these 3 as a starting point at least. | |||
