I found out about this granola by Galaxy Granola from this forum. There are 4 different "flavors." The calories range (per 1/2 cup or 50g) 155 to 165 and sugar from 7g to 14g. Check out this link : http://www.galaxygranola.com/ I love granola too. I have a serving of their "not sweet vanilla" which has nothing but just granola and add a serving of silvered almonds EVERY day. This is one snack that I must have on a daily basis....I look forward to it. I purchase mine from Whole Foods but you can get them on-line thru this link (or can find out where to buy them, the info. is on this link as well). If you find something better in your quest, be sure to share. Good luck! |

| Fitness | What causes the cramps in the lower ab when jogging? | Sep 16 2009 16:18 (UTC) |

My pain is not under the rib cage, I think I know what you're talking about though as I get those once in awhile. My pain is just below my left hip bone but a tiny bit closer to the right (like an inch or two from the hip bone). It's like a sharp pain that comes and goes as I continue to jog but it does not go away until I start walking or stop altogether. I tend to have a bowl of oatmeal with a couple of ounces of strawberries about 2.5 hours before the treadmill. I do drink a lot of water right as I get up in the morning. I drink 1.5L, maybe that is the issue? But the water goes down before the breakfast. Gosh, there are a lot of you experiencing cramps during runs. |

We'll be staying in Seoul for the bulk of our stay and a few days in Soreaksan for some hiking. We're in a hotel so no kitchen. You're all right about Korean food being low in calories. Most of their side dishes are vegetables. Although I love the noodles with black bean sauce (and so inexpensive!). I was mainly concerned with sodium....but what I'll do is wait for a whole week after my return to get on the scale. That way the water retention will have disappeared and won't depress me (that is if I fair well overall with the food intake). I hate to be going on a vacation with only 4 - 5 lbs left. I'd rather be going when I've entered the maintenance stage so I can up my total daily calories. But the way Seoul is laid out, we'll be walking plenty so that should be some help. Mermaid, we'll be drinking bottled water so I'm not too concerned as far as the quality of the water I'll be drowning in Thanks all. |

Thanks gi-jane. What you advised makes complete sense. I'm starting to rethink my sodium issue. Maybe retaining water has more to do with than just sodium, I'm beginning to think my fiber intake is too high.....I get anywhere from 35 to 43gms a day. And I thought the more fiber, the better. I've been drinking between 12 to 18 cups of water a day along with fiber (all from foods) so I thought I was okay but maybe not. |

| Maintaining | Does eating at maintenance mean.......... | Sep 06 2009 05:29 (UTC) |

Yes, that is what I meant. If I burned 2k, I'd eat 2k. If I burned 2500, I'd eat 2500. I'm just over 4 lbs from my goal so I hope to be eating my "maintenance" sooner than later. So far, I've been obtaining a deficit between 500 and 750 although I'm "thinking" of incorporating 1 cheat day per week (supposedly effective in weight loss). |

I've read tons about this, mostly from posters of this forum. I still have yet to try it, mainly because in the back of my mind, I'm not completely convinced.....the idea of the old traditional weight loss is hard to leave behind (it's almost like a bad habit). Anyway, I'm very tempted but should I wait until I hit a plateau or just incorporate it into my diet (I mean my new healthier life style :-) ? |

I've had my Gowear for about a month now. I love it. Since I was already counting calories for food intake, I just needed to know how many calories I burned (didn't want to do all the calculations for every activity I engaged in....I'm lazy). Gowear has helped me in maintaing the calorie deficit on a daily basis and also helped in losing more pounds! The best part is that it has also motivated me with parking the car a bit further, taking the stairs vs. the elevator, etc. I'm still lazy but a lot less lazier than pre-Gowear. It would be best to get the display watch as well....that way you don't have to upload to the computer each time you wanted to see what you've burned. |

Instead of walking with an open plate, could you use a bag or a portable cooler type bag? That way, they can't actually see what you're carrying.....not that you need to hide anything. But maybe it'll make your life a bit easier. Just a thought. |

Amethystgirl, I can totally see your point. I'm hoping that once I get to maintenance, I can start toning up my body. For now, I've been concentrating on cardio to trim down the fat. Once I start toning, I will be reaching for different goals....seeing some results (hopefully). Even in the maintenance stage, I think you should still reward yourself.....maybe every 6 months or so.....take a vacation or something. Good luck. |

Oh I see. I thought that. But I recently bought a Gowear and I'm able to see what I'm burning as the day progresses, makes calorie counting a lot easier....for me anyway. Okay, that pretty much answers the questions I had in regards to maintaining. Thanks! |

Thank you, I have a better understanding of that statement now. Could I ask one more question....this one arose from reading other posts. Many asks how many calories they should be eating to maintain.....but if it's a matter of consuming what you burn, why do we need to know our BMR, etc? Why the calculations? Again, just curious but I'm hoping to reach the maintenance sooner than later |

That seems so easy.....but why do people say that maintaining is so much harder than loosing? I mean, I'll get to eat more calories than I am now. Just curious.... Thanks for your response! |

m4mitchell, i have a couple of questions for you after having only worn my gowear full-time for the past 5 days. 1) does your arm (where sensor meets the skin) get irritated at all? after 3 days, mine was itchy and welted despite not having worn it too tightly and i take it off during showers and give breaks now and then. right now, i've switched it to my right arm even though the directions say to wear on the left arm......seems to work fine. 2) gowear seems to give much lower calories burned than my elliptical machine (which was to be expected since the machines are often inaccurate). but also lower than my HRM which i "thought" was somewhat accurate. any thoughts on this? gowear has also motivated me to be more active....i even park the car in the corner spot so that i can walk....i never used to do that. thanks |

Thanks! I've been counting calories since the beginning of June. But I've been using the CalorieKing Nutrition and Exercise Manager software (not the on on CC). I've got obsessive too and measured everything when eating at home. So, I've got that part down for the most part. On the software, I've alloted myself 1200 cal/day. When I enter my activity (workout), it bumps up my allotment. Say if I burned 300 cal, then it has me consuming 1500 cal (1200 + 300). I've been going with it since June but have seen very little drop in my weight. Now, I'm wondering how was I suppose to have a deficit if I'm eating all the calories I've burned? I supposedly burn 1390 calories per day by just "normal living" according to CC. But if I'm putting back everything I've burned, doesn't that basically say that I don't have a deficit by working out? As I understand it, I'm only burning ~110 per day (1390-1200=110). When I realized that I freaked out.....the last 2 months have been useless basically. Anyway, this is when I decided to invest and purchase the Gowear. The deficit thing got me very depressed.....I've been doing this all wrong I guess. I still don't understand why the software had me eating what I've been burning. |

Hi, just wondering how you like your Gowear. Mine is arriving tomorrow and am very excited. This deficit thing has had me reeling. I'm hoping the gadget will take all the uncertainties out of it....making it a clear cut to knowing exactly how many cal to consume for a 500 per day deficit. |

Also a big fan of "Almond Breeze" brand almond milk (unsweetened original). For 40 cals per 8 oz, can't beat it. I have it in my oatmeal or high fiber cereal every morning. I really like the taste. I've never been fond of milk....whole, lowfat and esp. skim. |

| Weight Loss | How accurate is CC's estimate of daily calorie intake recommendation? | Jul 25 2009 04:50 (UTC) |

Chrissy, that is good news! I ate 1300 today and thought I overate....but I actually under ate! I thought 1200 was kinda low....I do work out ~5 days per week between 30-50min (mostly cardio). I plugged in "lightly active" as I'm mostly sedentary aside from my workouts, the recommendation was still 1200....I wonder why? My weight loss overall has been a bit slow....up and down daily although the trend has been downwards mostly. But definitely, I'm not losing a pound per week. I'm 7 pounds from my goal and although I expected a slow loss journey, I can't wait to hit my goal and start the maintenance stage. Maybe upping my daily calories will help speed up my loss (that sounds so strange and contradictory). I can only hope! Thanks! |

Thanks. I understand where you're coming from. My daily menu contains what I believe is pretty healthy. At worst, I snack on Galaxy granolas and Starbucks soy lattes. I would say the bulk of my carbs come from daily oatmeal breakfast (27g), double fiber slices of bread (38g)...for my daily pb and banana lunch..........and granola snacks (38g) - 2 servings at 19g per serving. The rest come from fruits, veggies and Starbucks drinks (13g) which I enjoy 2 or 3 times a week. I'm thinking that I'm making choices that aren't terrible unless my thinking is totally screwed up. It's okay if it takes a bit longer to get to my goal (another 8 lbs) but I just want to make sure that this carb intake is not working against me. I thought that if I stuck with a 1200 cal limit, that I'd lose 1/2 to 1 lb per week per CC. But that hasn't been the case. |

The concept of "calories in and calories out" is one that I can understand totally. But, trying not to consume too much sugar (natural or not) is one that I'm having trouble with. Just incorporating grapes, blueberries, strawberries and yogurt pushes my total intake way up. What I don't understand is how people say to eat all the fruit we want while watching the sugar. It's really hard, there's tons of sugar in fruits no matter how natural it may be. It just adds up quickly. I try to stay below 80g but that's probably too high already for a daily intake. |

Greece is some place that I'd like to return to for vacation some day. I'd loved it there. This dessert is kinda high on calories but maybe you can indulge at least once just to say that you've tried it. Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts. It is absolutely delicious. You can get Greek yogurt/honey/walnuts and make the concoction here of course but it really isn't the same. Enjoy your trip! |

Like the others mentioned, frozen grapes, f. blueberries and f. cherries are great. Kinda slushy. Skinny Cow Chocolate Truffle and Fudgsicles are 100 cal. each and very yummy. What brand is the fudgsicles that only has 70 cal? When you're counting cal, every one of them counts! I have a question about grapes.....it is very high in natural sugar, is it one of those fruits that I should be limiting myself to? Out of all the frozen fruits, it is my favorite and I have it every day. I've been consuming 5oz a day but I wouldn't mind upping that |

Out of curiosity, what happens when you don't log for a few days? Does it go flat line for those days? Like for days when you're not able to log due to traveling or what not. I will plan to log for TTOM as it seems to be a good idea for future reference. But I'll be traveling pretty soon and don't want to carry my laptop. |
