| I was not talking about absorption, but about fever! For your body to burn a fever you need to burn more calories.
If you are vomiting (which is waht I assume you meant) you change the acid balance in your body - leading to lots of digestive changes. If you have stomach flu the best thing to do is drink water mixed with normal lemonade (80% water to 20% lemonade). sesoz PhD and MD to be........ |

| does not absorb calories, but burns more to fuel the fever! If you do not eat enough to fuel the increase in temperature, you will burn muscle. That is why very sick people "waste" quickly. It is not the nutrients as much as the raw energy........ | |||

| I make a big plate of low-cal bite-sized bits:
capsicum, celery, carrot, a few olives, tomato, maybe a bit of fruit or low-fat feta........ Another favorite is to drink a strongly flavored herbal tea (I like Blackadder) - it seems to curb the food cravings. Keeping up the excercise helps alot too...... I really should be studying myself........ |

| ((((HUG)))) hope that helps a bit! Dont sweat the small stuff - but remember to keep your goals in sight. The university will fix the computer, books can be exchanged, and some classes are hard - both mentally and emotionally. I remember putting off a chemistry and a statistics course, because I was not ready to commit to them. But eventually I did and passed well. It is hard to learn how to ignore the negative thoughts, and focus on the positive, but the reality is that no-one else remembers the bad stuff - so why should we?? How do other CC members deal with this?? |

| Weight Loss | Is 1500 calories okay? | Jan 31 2007 02:05 (UTC) |
5 |
| 1 Sarah to another... You are busy, active and looking after kids. 1500 intake is still low enough to lose weight, (so is 1800 for most people) just a little bit more slowly then you may want. Slower weight loss = better longterm control. with your walking you are at the 1200 mark anyway! |

| The Lounge | Should a 6 year old boy be getting migraines? | Jan 30 2007 22:19 (UTC) |

| Migraines can affect small children, and often cannot be easily diagnosed (even in adults!). Kids often present with severe stomach pains/cramps, triggering fears of appendicitis or food allergies.
I know of two young boys from different families who suffer severe migraines - one is hereditary, and presented with stomach pain from the age of 2, moving to the headache at 6; the other has had headaches from the age of 5, and gone through the process to eliminate allergies and tumors. If this child eats alot of fast food, I would be considering caffeine as a culprit initially - tho definately have the child checked by a qualified dr...... Hope he grows out of them! |

| Weight Loss | Can someone ever have to much fruit? | Jan 30 2007 02:02 (UTC) |

| Fruit is high in sugar, and can be high in carbohydrates. I also know from experience that eating too much can stop weight loss. Most "diets" suggest 2-3 peices (or ~405g) per day. | |||
| Weight Loss | Is anyone doing weight watchers? | Jan 29 2007 21:58 (UTC) |
1 |
| I followed WW a few years ago and lost 20kg over 8 months - but when I found CC and checked my WW diet I felt that the food intake was too low on WW. I also regained 15 kg over 24 months, both due to a decrease in excercise and small increase in food intake. I think more cals with a slower weight loss is far better for longterm weight control. WW has a lot of benefits - the points system is quite easy to follow - just maybe not enough for an active person! |

| I was not thinking in terms of intake - just in terms of oestrogen and fats! I agree males should not eat less then 1500 a day, and 19 year old males should eat more, since they continue to grow until the age of 22-24. ihatelettuce has not provided any of this info - hence the suggestion to talk this through with his Dr..... |

| our study has focussed on oestrogen in female bodies..... basically it facilitates fat distribution ... I do not think eating more is wise - oestrogen will change the way you metabolise food - and fat wil be more readily stored instaed of "passing through". This is really a question for others who have been in your situation - either your Dr or a specialised website/support group. However you have sparked my interest too........ I will see what I can find.. |

| Weight Loss | question to the girls RE: amenorreah | Jan 17 2007 22:34 (UTC) |

| Your period is very tightly related to the amount of fat your body carries (or is eaten). Loss of your period while dieting is not a good sign, and usually indicates you have decreased your fat intake too much. That is why so many annoerexic women lose thier period. Fat is important for many metabolic functions within your body - it is important to ingest some fats daily. It does not mean you will start gaining weight again, it means a) that you are eating enough fats for your body to work and you wil get another period next month; or b) that the "period" lining your uterus has built up so much that shed itself - and you may not get another for months. Really you should seek medical advice, and possibly track you hormal changes over a month to find out what is going on. Looking at you ticker - you may be at the optimal weight for you body anyway! |

| our 6 year old cattle dog and 5 month old whippet love to play, but the whippet is just too fast! The cattle dog lies in wait, trips her over and then lies on top of her ..... very funny to watch! The whippet has also earned the nickname "Klepto". She just cannot walk past a loose object without picking it up and taking it for a walk. When she is bored she walks past with different objects until she finally has something "precious" and worth a chase! Luckily she is smart and is starting to leave things if we tell her NO. |

| missed you again! Just ran next door to check my neighbours buckskin - who was lying in the sun in the same spot (I thought) all morning in 30C full sun. Thought he had been bitten by a snake, or was colicky (unlikely as no kicking). So I went tearing across the paddocks, my faithful canines ready to vend off any snake that should cross our path, up to the horse, who politley stood up, shook itself and checked my pockets for carrots..... | |||
