| Weight Gain | "You're So Skinny... | Jun 02 2009 13:32 (UTC) |

Finally I have found somewhere to vent my frustrations about this!! I have always been very skinny, I don't help this because my eating habits are poor, but it is also genetic and my whole family is on the skinny side. People are unbelievably rude about skinny people. I have had people point at me in the street and say "Oh my god, look at that girl she's so skinny she looks disgusting"... It's awful, I feel un-womanly and unattractive. Even my friends will say "you've lost weight!" all the time despite the fact that my weight has been stable for the past 6 years. It is hurtful because it is meant as a negative comment. I think sometimes there is an element of jealousy "Oh you're so lucky you can eat what you want - but I wouldn't want to be as skinny as you", what people don't realise is that most people are insecure about their body in one way or another, even skinny people... The media is also pretty merciless, you're either too fat or "dangerously thin". The emphasis should be on your health not your appearance. I wouldn't dream of commenting on someone's weight be they over or under weight. It's socially unacceptable to tell someone they're fat, it should be equally unacceptable to tell someone they're too thin!!! |
