Fitness The G.I. Jane Challenge - 100 burpee/pull-ups for time Oct 25 2009

I'm just going to poke my head out to say that you people are my freaking heroes.  I'm a dedicated lurker (yeah I read the forums every day and haven't posted in like 2 years) and I seriously love reading your posts, vyperman and fitnessgirll...every time I want to be lazy and not go to the gym I pop onto the fitness forum and realize that if you people are doing insane stuff like 100 burpees into pull-ups I can get my butt into the gym for a normal ol' lift routine.

I'd steal it if I hadn't been the one to get it for her!  I'm thinking of getting one for myself, though, when I return home...but I don't even own a wii so it'd be a considerable chunk of change to purchase all of it.

I get home from work way too late to hit the gym sometimes so it's a good way to stay active...but I'll admit I mostly just think it's fun.  I'll hula hoop endlessly and I love the running in place and the step aerobics.

Got one for my mom for her birthday but I think I've been playing with it more than she has!  It's not my primary form of workout but I have a lot of fun with it.  I think I usually play 20-30 minutes on it...

hey ladies...i've had a really tough week so i've been MIA.  haven't been stressing much about food intake although i do suspect i'm emotionally eating (the pecan chocolate chip cookies i baked the other day were a tip-off).

don't know when i'll start feeling better about a rather wretched turn of events that happened this week, but i'm still working out and i'm not bingeing on donuts, so that's something...

have a great weekend, everyone!

how neat that program sounds!

i work with a trainer to keep myself accountable.  i need the accountability too, but mostly i need someone to haul my butt into the gym ;)

speaking of which, i'm so sore it's not even funny.  i just want to go back to sleep!

I have a Wii and I love it!

I've been playing on my NES and Sega for the last ten years (okay, probably more than 10 years) and I lurve them but the Wii is neat for family time with my mom and when guests come over.  It's also just a fun little system as something new.

I've also used a PS2 (my sister has it) and I like the variety of games available for it.  The PS3 was a little too spiffy for me (read: expensive) and the XBOX never caught my fancy.

Hi Josette!

I do 30 minutes of cardio 2-3 times per week and I weight train 3 times per week.

I also use my food log nearly every day (I took this weekend off).  I find that I can stay within my caloric limit but am very bad at keeping my ratios proper if I do not use the food log.  I totally envy the people who can do it!

I eat sugarless ice cream (the kind that uses Splenda) which I like a lot!  My mom's diabetic so I follow the diabetic diet (even though I don't live with her) kind of as a show of support.  Light Splenda-fied Mint Chocolate Chip is my favorite!

Hey Judi!  Good job on the 4lbs!  I didn't do so well on the weekend either, but that's okay.  Today's a new day, right?  We can totally do this!!

YAY for Jenny fighting the Teddy Grahams binge!

I must admit I sort of took the weekend off from logging ::looks sheepish::

but I didn't eat any of the cookies I baked for a party on Friday!

hey twindaze, you can do it!  you might be PMS'ing which can make it hard, but you'll manage to get it under control!!

i go through occasional periods of the same thing...eventually i manage to get it under control, it just takes a little time :)

i'm totally confident in your ability to do this!

Hiya Weemallard!

Oh I feel you on the plus-sized but tall issue!  It's nearly impossible to find pants (especially since I'm disproportionately tall with most of my height in my legs).

46 is nowhere near elderly!  You're still a young 'un by some standards ;)

Good luck with your efforts and we're here if you need us!

oh Avesha I hope you're better!

I didn't do much this weekend.  Spent at least 4 hours in the pool on Sunday, swam laps and goofed off.  Got very tan despite my compulsive application of sunscreen.

Saturday was mostly errands and such...tried to relax a bit and hang out with my mom.

Anyone else do anything interesting?

Mornin' and Happy Thursday to all!

I've been up since 4 to meet my trainer at the gym at 5 so I'm hitting my mid-day slump (how sad is that, it's only 10am here).

How is everyone?

Welcome Judi!  And congrats on the weight loss to date!  You're doing wonderfully :)

My mom has type 2 diabetes and because I have an associated autoimmune disorder, I'm at very high risk.  I  follow a modified diabetic diet to keep myself from becoming insulin-resistant, so I know how hard it can be!

Good luck on reaching your goals~~I think you'll find that as you feel healthier you'll want to exercise more (even if it's just walking)!

ooooh Bristol's a good school.  LSE is definitely stronger in Econ than IR.

It must be soooooo tough to imagine him leaving.  It's nice that your breaks overlap, but I'm sure it'll still be tough.  I guess all you can do is throw yourself into your studies and wait.  It's good that you guys are realistic about the challenges and can communicate about it.  You're a step up on most people.

I was lucky enough to get a full funding offer that really swayed me--full tuition plus a 15K per year stipend for 4 years to do my PhD at a small school in Boston.  My boyfriend compromised by foregoing some of the great law school offers from other places and choosing BU.  I guess we both compromised because we realized that we wouldn't do as well academically without the other person there to cheer us on...and the thought of graduating without debt was just soooo unbelievable for me.

What are you studying? (I feel like I've asked that before...)

Welcome Bellad and good job on the weight loss!

Elly, that sounds so nice! Your mom must have been soooo excited!  And it's quite impressive that you managed to do all that cleaning without waking anyone...

Avesha--where's he going for grad school and what's he pursuing?  I have a BA in Economics and am starting my PhD this Fall.  I was totally considering some schools in the UK but decided to stay in the US to be with my boyfriend :)  I really wanted to go to the London School of Economics, though.

Oh and hey writestuff!  Good job on the weightloss so far!  And welcome to the group :)

hey dame--while i normally am a total guilt-ball about hanging up on people...he deserved it!  screw the friends-with-ex!  you probably have more than enough friends without him, you rockin' hot chick, you!  but, um, yeah...i've never actually managed to stay friends with an ex either...

i definitely agree with elly's advice...try a new class or something.  or a new hairstyle, or a new nail polish color or something.  lol, try some yoga...it'll either relax you or you'll have great vengeful thoughts involving how you can now twist yourself into a pretzel and he's given up all rights, etc.  (wow, i'm bitter, aren't i? ::snort::)

ooooh fun!  the puppy will have so much fun!  so many new smells :D

i'm going to a boston university newly-accepted law student reception with my boyfriend (he's the future lawyer...i'm an economist).  since it's not my networking event, I get to dress all cute and chic instead of super-professional.  so i'm wearing a pretty black and white print dress and red shoes!  i'm very excited :)  i expect it'll be stuffy and boring but i haven't had a chance to wear this dress yet so i'm still happy.

thanks Dame!  I was pretty excited...it definitely made the appt easier knowing that the numbers told him I was a healthy person in terms of lifestyle (i was going to talk to him about a 40lb weight gain over less than 5 months and i was scared he'd take one look at me and think "yeah, put down the fork, honey.")

sometimes you work for awhile and look the same even though you're losing weight and then suddenly the next 5lbs off make you look totally different.

i'm sure your goal is attainable...

...and as much as I love Indy, I'm betting you resemble Lara Croft more!  (what with being a girl and all...)

hey ladies, sorry I haven't checked the thread in a few days.  Welcome, Bev!

and Dame--congrats on being so smokin' hot sexy!  (take that, jerk ex-boyfriend!)

barney--I weigh closer to 300 too and I'm 6'2"

katy--I can gain or lose 20lbs and no one notices :P maybe it's the same for you?

oh, i have to tell you guys about a doctor's appt i just had where he was waxing poetic about my cholesterol of all things!  he actually turned the computer screen to show my boyfriend the numbers and start rambling about how wonderful they were and how it really reflects my living habits to have such great cholesterol and how if all his patients had these numbers he'd look really good...lol i couldn't stop laughing!
