| Weight Loss | Where do you lose fat from first? | Nov 18 2009 22:55 (UTC) |

Butt. Always. I don't have much of a butt to start with, so it really disappears fast. Unfortunately I gain it in my hips and butt first. Not that I lose it from my hips, noooo. |

| Weight Loss | Stretch Marks | Aug 05 2009 18:17 (UTC) |
3 |
Without microdermabrasion, surgery, and certain lasers, you can't really "get rid of stretchmarks". They're scars. Scars don't go away. The only thing you can reasonably expect to do is lighten them and make them feel smoother. A stretch mark occurs when the skin is stretched to quickly, and tears internally (below the skin). The reason they're often dark is because you are seeing the underlying tissue showing through. As they age, the skin will try and knit itself back together, which is why the lines often go from red to white or yellow (depending on your skin tone). The light colour tissue is scar tissue, which is why sometimes it is lighter than the actual skin tone. I found that my stretch marks went from dark maroon/purple to a light pink colour by applying lotion each time I was in the washroom, and gently massaging daily in about 1.5 months. The texture is still raised and different from the rest of my skin, but getting closer. I just use whatever is on sale at walmart. I really felt the "Jergens Ultra Healing" worked well, but it could all be in my head, and all lotions work about the same from my experience. Good luck |

| The Lounge | I'm going to get fried. | Aug 05 2009 17:50 (UTC) |

It's very warm where I live (it was 115 F yesterday!), and I just either exercise in the evenings, or inside. I live across the street from a track, so I jog and ride my bike there at night, and during the day I'll jump rope inside. I'm very fair and burn super easy, through sunscreen, and night time workouts seem to be the only option for me. Hope I helped some. |

I second the cheese thing. A grilled/melted chese sandwhich is always an awesome snack, and you can always put some lettuce or spinach on it. Cheese sticks (such as string cheese) could be good for your morning snack, in addition to your yogurt and banana. You could also add some oats to your yogurt. Although they aren't especially high in calories, they are good for you, and don't add much taste. You could also, instead of having an omlette, have a couple fried egg sandwhiches, cooked with olive oil, on toast, with avocado, or a little mayo. It wouldn't take much more time. One sandwhich for me is less than 2 minutes cook time, so it wouldn't take up precious time. |

| Health & Support | Hypoglycemics: dietary+exercise struggles | Aug 04 2009 07:01 (UTC) |
2 |
I do not test my blood sugar, and have never seen an endocrinologist (or heard of one, for that matter!). My family and I deal with it based on how we feel physically, and how we expect to feel based on what we've eaten. My diet is about 40-55% carbs, 20-30% protein 15-40% fat (I know it's a large range, but it varies with how lean the protein I eat is) I never linked carbs to hypoglycemia, because I try and choose carbs that are low(er) in sugar, and whole grains/long grains, as much as possible. In my mind whole grain and all that constitutes "healthy". I will try to limit my carbs more, hopefully in the 30-40% max range. I do my best to eat regularly and always carry snacks with me (peanur butter or low sugar granola bars) that are as healthy as I can seem to reasonably keep in my purse/car at all times. When my sugar is dropping I first feel a little tired, lethargic, lack motivation. As it progress, I become twitchy or nervouse, shaky, giggly, a bit loopy (similar to that "tipsy" feeling people get from alcohol), lacking focus. If I haven't gotten food at this point I begin to feel sick to my stomach, dizzy, my heart races, I feel weak. Lastly, if I still haven't eaten, I throw up, and then pass out, in addition to feeling tired, sick, and shaky. Sounds pretty typical to me for unadressed hypoglycemia. I have learned though to NEVER let it get this bad, regardless of the circumstances. These feelings have been the reason I carry lots of weird food with me all the time. Sorry this is such a long post, but I wanted to completely address all the questions. |

| Health & Support | Iron deficency and weight gain | Aug 03 2009 08:05 (UTC) |

I'm anemic, and I've found that if I don't take an iron suppliment, or if I don't make the conscious effort to eat things with iron, I tend to crave weird foods (pickled artichoke hearts anyone?). I think that when your body lacks something, it tried to make up for it by craving certain foods. Of course, just because someone crave sugar doesn't mean they're lacking it, but I think that for some instances, this can be true. There was a study done a few years ago about children who ate dirt. It was found that they lacked certain vitamins in their diet, and the dirt had some of those vitamins present. Just a thought. |

I lift while I watch tv using light weights and many repitions. It's more bearable, and I am not left in agony afterwards, or completely bored during. I started out with large soup cans and have progressed up to some 5 pound weights I bought at a thrift store for $2. |

I second the need for at least one lower body day! Of course, you could combine your cardio with lower body. Walking/jogging carrying weights, doing lunges. Also, I'm not sure if you were ever in football, but they have some excellent cardio/lower body exercises, such as the duckwalk. Check some of those things out at a highschool nearby. I'm sure with school starting you could talk to some of the coaches, or ask to join in with some of the team's warmups and drills.

| Weight Loss | Do you weigh more than you 'look'?? I do. | Jul 31 2009 23:17 (UTC) |
27 |
I can relate for sure. At my highest I weighed 180, but people always put me around the 150 mark. Of course, a lot of the clothes I worse at 145 that used to be a bit loose (particularly high waisted skirts) still fit me at 180, but more tightly. I have a very stocky hour glass. Wide hips and shoulders, very thin waist (at 145, there was a 13 inch difference between my waist and hips! Talk about hard to shop for clothes, geez). I worry that this means that my weight loss won't be all that noticeable until I lose a lot of weight. Since I started trying to lose though, I've lost 4 pounds. That's it. I have lost almost 3 inches off my hips, but only 4 freakin' pounds. Yeah, it's just a number, but I'd like to reach my goal weight, before I run out of inches! Just for the sense of accomplishment, you know?

| Weight Loss | Should I skip it? | Jul 31 2009 22:13 (UTC) |

My vote is to enjoy your pizza! I think if you're going to be unhealthy though you should add some veggies. I hate the pizza and salad combination, personally. I would, if I were you, either ask for veggie pizza or cut your own vegetables for your slices. Spinach, olives, onion, bell pepper, whatever you like. I know that not everyone likes vegetable pizza, so making your own might be the best compromise. Plus, if you put so many veggies on it the slice is completely covered, you're getting a good partial serving! Enjoy yourself! Just limit it to 2 big slices or 3 little ones. Then either have something healthy (such as a salad) or weight an hour, then decide if you're really still hungry, or if you're just craving another piece. |

| Weight Loss | looking for some weight loss advice. | Jul 31 2009 22:07 (UTC) |

Congratulations on the weight loss, that's excellent! I think that since you work out so much, even though you're trying to lose, 1500-1800 calories should be your goal. If you think about it, normal people maintain at 1800-2000, and they don't usually work out as often, or vigourously as you do. I would say that 1300 may not be enough for you. If you were only walkin a few miles a day then I think that'd be fine, but in addition to your workouts with the tapes, it may be too little. Good luck continuing to lose! |

| Weight Loss | 5'2''ers what size are you? | Jul 31 2009 21:39 (UTC) |

I'm almost 5'3". I used to weigh 145 (very fit, lots of muscle, but could have lost 10-20 more) and I was a size 9, pretty consistently. I'm heavier now and wear a 15 (but I do like all my clothes on the bag side). I've basically accepted that I'm going to forever half to cut off anywhere from 3-8 inches, then hem. I find even with the "short" cut pants, they tend to be long. Wearing boot cut/flare pants often means that I don't have to hem, and I can just let them drag or cuff them... Good luck |

| Weight Loss | Weighing | Jul 31 2009 21:35 (UTC) |

I only count my weigh-ins once a month, otherwise it varies too much to really matter. I do weight every everymorning, but it usually is about the same. I use a tape measure instead. Although it will vary slightly (based on food intake and time of the month) I find that if I measure when I get up, before breakfast, it consistently reflects my workouts. If I worked out quite a bit this past week, I'll have lost an inch. If I didn't work out much, I'll have lost less. I fthink it is far more motivating to say, "Another inch down! A few weeks and I can wear that pair of pants that haven't fit since..." As opposed to say, "Woohoo! Down 1.1 pounds. Average!...not that I feel I look any different..." but that's just me. I'm a bit addicted to instant gratification. Good luck! |

A physical job might be helpful on the working out front. I don't mean hard labour like construction, but think about how much walking around a waitress does while you're there at the restaraunt. An 8 hour shift of that much walking is a good workout. Look for jobs that give you the oppertunity to walk around and move. Even if it's cashiering at a grocery, you're standing. Standing burns more than sitting. Also, there are lots of easy "recipes" that really only require the ability to use a microwave. Lemon pepper chicken is awesome: 1 boneless skinless chicken breast (you can pick up a big bag of these for about $6 at walmart) a small amount of lemon juice (however much your want, start out with a small amount, you can add more later) pepper
That's it. Put the breast on a plate and sprinkle it with lemon juice. Put pepper on it. Cover with damp paper towel. Microwave. If it's not lemony enough, sprinkle a little more lemon juice, and re-microwave. Tah dah! Dinner. No measuring cups, one plate, no fancy tools. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | 5'1" - 5'2" girls what is your goal weight? | Jul 30 2009 23:50 (UTC) |
7 |
I have a large frame, and am 5'2.5" (ever half inch counts at our height!). My goal weight is 124. The thinest I've been was 145, and I was muscular and pretty fit, with a bit of a stomach, and more muffin top than I wanted to have. With my frame, I know I'd look too skinny and bony, and I'd lose a lot of my muscle at 100-115. I am currently one 174 (ugh!) and my measurements are 40-33-41. My goal is to be 32-25-33 (inches are far more important to me than my actual weight). Since I have large hips, I think the thinnest my hip measurement could ever be is 30 inches.

| Weight Loss | Eating too few calories? That's different! | Jul 30 2009 02:43 (UTC) |

I've been having the same problem. I think that at some point, people become a bit over conscious with what we eat, so we shoot too low. There was another thread I was following that discussed how we should all be able to up our calories to lose weight. Normal people maintain at 2000, therefore, we should all be able to lose at the 1600-1800 range. Many of the people on there broke plataues and others lost the same amount of weight, but on more food. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | How frequently do you measure your waist? | Jul 30 2009 02:30 (UTC) |
|
I have not lost a single pound, but I have lost over 2 inches on my hips, over an inch off my waist, and half an inch from my bust. I weigh daily, but it doesn't really matter to me since I've pretty much come to accept it doesn't like to move...very disappointing. I have found though, I lose at least a half inch off my hips per week! This is so validating since I've been working my butt off, but the scale hasn't shown any improvement. I measure daily just because I can always see a change from the day before (even if it's only a half centimeter, it's a change!) and that is motivating for me and is an excellent pick me up when I don't want to exercise or I'm feeling down. I only measure my hips, waist, and bust, since those are the main areas I want to lose, and I know that my legs and arms won't lose as much because they will be gaining muscle as well as losing fat. My hips, waist, and bust have a lot left to lose before I will stop losing inches due to muscle gain. I think that people should only weigh once a month, or once a week, and follow the trend, because your body weight changes so much due to water and food, as well as muscle gain. |

Since you're unemployed at the moment, I must ask, what do you do all day? I know that since I've been unemployed I spend a lot of time scoping the internet and watching tv! In 3 weeks I lost an inch of my waist, almost an inch off my hips, and a half inch off my bust by just getting up during commercials and jump roping, or doing some exercises that I've seen on other commercials. 1 hour of moderate paced jump roping = 789 calories burned for me. 1 hour of jogging in place is only 631 calories. Now, if you watch 3 hours of television and jump rope every commercial break, you will jump for about one hour! (I prefer jump roping to jogging, way more fun!) You can do this! Look for oppertunities to do stuff. My boy friend and I used to ride our bikes every evening. You guys can start out walking. Takes no equipment, low impact, and you get to spend time together. |

| Calorie Count | Maybe this is the equivalent of blasphemy | Jul 27 2009 02:03 (UTC) |

I was worried about this too just earlier today. It says that my daily calories on average are 1000-1500 calories per day. Which is odd, because I'm aiming for 1500-1600 to lose 1 lb per week. I don't feel deprived or hungry. I even had ice cream yesterday, and was just barely over 1100! It worries me a little, because I usually exercise about 700-1000 calories a day (by CC estimates). That can't be healthy, right? I haven't done much research, but CC's foods are very close to what the packaging says from all the foods I've checked.

Just wanted to say, you're my motivation. I thought 50 pounds in a year would be a good goal. You proved though, 50 pounds can be lost quicker than that with determination! It seems you lost pounds in 5 or 6 months (depending on how good my math is today)! That's amazing. I now aim to lose my 50 pounds before m\May (about 9 months). You can do it, I can do it. Thank you for sharing.

It can happen, yes. Especially if you just started exercising, or if you amped up your exercise routine recently. Either research possible side effects of your medications. Can't find anything? Just give your doctor a call. Leave a message that you might be having side effects from your medication, and you'd like him to call you back. Simple as that. Plus, it's far cheaper than going to actually see your doctor. |

I know how you feel. I'm there with you. In 4 weeks, although I haven't lost a single pound, I have lost almost 2 inches off my hips, an inch of my waist, and a half inch off my bust. My advice is to go by measurements. I feel like I make so much more progress, because I can tell the difference overnight. Of course, like your weight, it will vary based on what time you measure, what you ate the day before, how much water you drank the day before, etc. If you really want to measure every day (I know I do!) just take your average for the week. Much better that way. |

Anything whole grain will have fiber. If you go to a bread store, or a grocery with a large selection of bread, you should be able to go through and find the bread with the most fiber. Also, metamucil has lots of fiber. You can buy it in the capsul form now too, instead of just the powder. It can be a good way to get extra fiber. |
