listen, when I wrote critique I meant........enough variety? any good ideas for additions? recommendations to eat more are fine, but why leap to the anorexia conclusion? and even if you are a doctor you should know better--medical advice over the internet can be dangerous. suggestions, food critiques, recipe swapping---that's all great and what I like about this forum. but (what seems to me) reactionary, harsh, simplistic backlash.....isn't that nice.

let me soothe your fears......in addition to what I listed, I had some eggs last night and then I had some low fat fro yo.....(I posted around 7.....I snacked a little more)....that's around 1600 or 1700 calories, which is far from being a rexy lexy.

to answer your questions:

  • Do you make yourself Sick because you feel uncomfortably full?
  • no, I do not binge
  • Do you worry that you have lost Control over how much you eat?
  • no......though i don't exercise super amounts of control either. I eat until I'm full but I don't obsess over every little calorie. at this point, what worries me more is getting the proper amounts of nutrients (because I'm a semi-vegetarian) & keeping myself healthy
  • Have you recently lost more than One stone (14lbs) in a 3 month period?
  • no....in fact, for the past year my weight has not changed (except probably water retention, etc)
  • Do you believe yourself to be Fat when others say you are too thin?
  • No, I don't think I'm fat and I'm not trying to lose weight.
  • Would you say that Food dominates your life?
  • no.......but I enjoy it, reading about it, and yes (gasp) eating it!

from what my doctors have told me, there are many factors that lead to a stopped period----including stress. and as stress  inhibits the appetite, it can be a vicious cycle, in which both feed into each other. things aren't so black & white!!

gi-jane, I don't think you're a doctor and aren't in any position to diagnose "states of sickness and malnutrition"..........just because you're trying to do so over the internet, doesn't render you any more authoritative!

(and as I said in the last post, I had seen doctors who told me I was getting enough kcals--between 1400 and 1900 a day, usually).

yeah, it did, thanks! i thought from your first post that you were criticizing  the fact that I have a few beers throughout the week with "reevaluate priorities". I'm not trying to lose weight, just be healthy----and so, yep, I have one or two beers twice a week. I think it's fine......and honestly, I think that beer holds far less "empty" calories than trashy mix drinks. It's about enjoying alcohol & hanging out with friends, not getting drunk for me....which is, I think, comparable to enjoying good quality food in moderation rather than binge eating on diet bars or what have you. to say beer or chocolate cake is poison is just nonsense.

sounds like we're on the same page!

hmmm....there were lots of zucchini in the tomato sauce. and then there were carrots and sauerkraut. I ought to have more veggies......sigh. I feel good though!

Honestly, I don't feel any difference in satiety or energy when I'm eating meat/getting lots of protein and when I'm heavier on whole grains/veggies. Hmmm.....

Also----beer isn't poison. Beer & wine are way way better for you than hard liquor, in moderation of course. Evne if they have more calories than a shot of vodka, they are more filling and a nice weekend pleasure. I love beer!(of course, I like  to drink good quality beer and wine.....and never more than 4 or 5 servings a week. there's a big difference between a good artisinal beer  & say, PBR).....let me keep my beer please!

Thanks all for your advice!!

thanks.....both the pasta & bread are whole grain, sprouted wheat. which i think packs more protein that most?

i will probably add some protein to my dinner.......it was so hot today that I hardly wanted to cook dinner, hence all the raw vegetables/fruits. But it is only 7, i may get hungry again in a few hours. Maybe add some eggs in there?

There was olive oil in my tomato  sauce, btw!!

Hemp......interesting. Do you have any suggestions on how to cook??

Weight Loss Can bananas make you fat? Jun 07 2009

i agree........I used to try to limit my fruit intake to one piece of fruit a day and now I usually have between 4-5 servings. Fruit is good and healthy! I prefer fruits that have lots of water in them (apples, berries)......a banana seems more substantial. It's still good for you, but it probably packs more calories and gives you a less immediate sense of satiety, b/c it holds less water. No problem with that of course, as long as you realize how your body reacts.......

i second jannid!! it is not necessary to eat traditional breakfast foods....there was a great article in the nytimes about having "savory" breakfasts....for example, healthy breakfast pizzas .

I personally like to have quinoa in the morning with some salt and cinnamon and maybe fruit. I also find that having 2 eggs really fills me up.......

I was wondering if it happened to anyone else..........especially the bit about losing/gaining period without a fluctuation in weight (but a fluctuation in calories in/out possibly, with the walking).

I don't know........or just to introduce myself. Hello my name is x and I don't menstruate. Or even if there was concern, advice to see a doctor, fine, but most of the comments I got in response were rude and (dare I say) hostile.

clairelaine, what I expected.......was not this kind of backlash.

I have been to doctors--several--and nutritionists, all of whom tell me that I'm eating enough. They have run tests and they have told me I am healthy. I/They are not even sure if my loss of period has strictly something to do with weight.

I'm not anorexic and that's a stupid conclusion to jump to via internet. I am not trying to lose weight, as I said in my post. I'm not necessarily trying to gain weight either. I am rather tall but have a very small frame & am naturally pretty skinny (at my heaviest I was about 135 pounds, and that was drinking every night/eating lots of sugary cereals & cakes/also, I was on antidepressants and birth control which made me gain)
