Motivation OK, quick poll. What is your goal size for pants and shirts? Sep 22 2009

I'd like to be a 4/6 in pants and a small on top... I am currently a medium on top and maybe a 12 on the bottom, but I used to be a 4/6 so I believe that it is entirely possible to get back down there!

Kat, the same thing happened to me a few years ago too. Only it wasn't just guys but all people just making a huge fuss over how I looked. I became so vain and self-absorbed, I totally lost myself. Then some stress came my way and I gained like five pounds. Because my looks had become the number one thing in my life, this five pounds became the bane of my existence and I fell into a depression. Five pounds turned into 10 into 30. I think it's been a valuable experience in that I've learned how important education, developing my own personal values and the relationships in my life are what really matter. Weight should be about health and your own self worth, not about looks and vanity. I think that people can really lose themselves in that stuff, it's so easy in our society.

You should try to get down to your goal caloric intake over time, take it slow. When you shock your body by only giving it 1500 calories, you're going to always binge. Go down 100 calories a week from whatever you're comfortable eating now, maybe like 2200. Slow and steady wins the race, you'll get down to 1500 and be able to maintain it, and you will still lose weight along the way... Just not super fast, which is good anyways.

In my opinion you should just drink a bunch of water and make yourself a delicious salad with a bunch of amazing vegetables. Then take a bath and do your nails or something. When you wake up you will feel clean and pretty and on the right track. Stuff like that always works for me.

I want to lose weight because I am young and beautiful and why should I ruin that for myself with overeating? I want to enjoy my life to the fullest, and I feel like I'm on the road to that right now. It's a very beautiful feeling.

Weight Loss Healthy weight loss after an eating disorder.?.? Apr 24 2006

I had an eating disorder in high school, and it is really hard trying to heal yourself without getting professional help. Everyone's advice on this board already has been great, but I just wanted to stress that you really have to watch yourself in front of your daughter. Eating disorders are concidered to be caused by both genetics and learned behaviors. My Mom tried so hard to hide her weight problems from me, but she did not succeed, and I developed an eating disorder. Kids are very observant of their parent's actions, and even if you're trying to hide it, it's possible that you're daughter could pick it up.

Anyways, I hope I didn't come off in the wrong way or anything, I just know that my Mom regrets now that she didn't do everything she could to prevent me from traveling down that path.

From one non-meat eating, eating disorder recoverer to another, I have a lot of advice on what foods could help you up your calorie intake. Recovering from an eating disorder, it can be very hard to remember what a normal day of eating was, and I still can't really remember how I did it before counting calories. When I started eating again, I was a bit weary of nuts and nut butters, because they are so calorie dense. It takes time to get over calorie content, even if you're trying to increase your intake. My advice is to find a really good vegetarian/organic/health grocery store in your neighborhood. Foods that I loved when I was a kid that I had forbidden to myself were all being sold in these stores, only healthy! Hempseed wholewheat waffles, Vegan Ice Cream Sandwiches, great chilis and baked goods, all low in calories and high in taste and health. I could eat more, but I managed to maintain a good healthy weight for a long time. I didn't feel like a pig because I was eating healthy treats that helped contribute to healthy diet.

Then I stopped caring and decided to eat whatever I wanted for a while, which was fun too. Now I want to feel good in my body, so I'm trying to get rid of some of my extra weight.

Also, going through a hospital program for eating disorders, they stressed following an eating schedule. Try to create a food plan for yourself and make a schedule to get yourself back on track. Try to eat the same amount everyday at the same times, and if you're still not consuming enough food, just add more into your plan somewhere.

I know what it's like to have an eating disorder, and when I started to heal, I read all of this literature that said that people don't recover from it mentally. This isn't true. It takes time, but everything can go back to normal, and you can live a normal life and eat normally while maintaining a healthy, self-satisfying weight.
