Vegetarian Fish Eating "Vegetarians" Oct 21 2009

Original Post by djane:

My point is that, once upon a time and to Catholics, fish was not considered a 'meat.' So, I can understand how there are people who don't eat red meat, poultry or the 'other' white meat, do eat fish.  So, there is an historical context underpinning fish eatin' vegetarians.

BTW, society has lots of ways to use words to redefine/refine meanings. So, guys in the army do not 'murder.'

I'm with you. I always grew up thinking of fish not as meat but as just another category (of protein). So I personally don't mind it... I always thought there were quite a few vegetarians who also ate fish.

For those of you who eat fish, do you also eat all seafood? In particular, lobster and/or crab. If so, I'm wondering, have you read 'Consider the Lobster' by David Foster Wallace?

Well... are you exercising?

If you aren't, do. And don't concentrate on ab exercises - weight lift and do cardio as well.

If you are, then just be patient. Sometimes people get very unlucky and the last bit of fat takes a long time to go away; longer, it seems, when it's someplace you don't want it to be...like your tummy.

At first glance it looks like you're low on fat and protein, but I could be wrong. Make sure you are logging your food so you know how many calories you are eating. NEVER starve yourself. It may work at first, but then it will stop working and you will only end up hurting your body. Aim for a balanced 40% carbs / 30% protein / 30% fat diet.

Log what you're going to eat for the day the night before so you know you're at what you should be. If you find yourself high on carbs and low on fat, for example, add some healthy nuts like almonds or walnuts, or natural peanut butter (made w/o hydrogenated oils).

Very good points so far. Being too strict IS setting yourself up for failure in the future - it happened to me, too. HOWEVER you can look at this as a good thing. Now you have motivation for remembering to eat right (portion control, calorie counting, etc): you KNOW what will happen if you let go. But if you do slip up, well, it happens! Nothing a little exercise and planning for the next time won't fix.

Don't despair! You'll get back where you want to be. Just remember those lessons you learned when you were losing the weight the first time. Another thing that really helps is to find a group of people, online or in real life, who have the same goals (to be healthy, lose weight, etc) and keep accountable with them... DAILY. It sure has helped me remembering when I pick up a cookie that I was going to have to 'fess up to my group.

I work night audit at a hotel too - only two nights a week now - but it really messes up my schedule of wanting to get up 6 am and doing cardio! I also can't really exercise at work, either.

I have had a huge problem in the past wanting to munch on bagels and OJ (my advice: stay away from the juice machine, it is just sugar! and stay away from the bagels, the portion/cals are way out of control), but now I bring my own food to work. I will also cook dinner in advance and bring it in tupperware. It is great this way because then I get the serving portion measurements out of the way early!

I also try to plan eating every 2-3 hours / 5x a day. Sometimes that doesn't work out so well when I'm up early and don't take a nap before work because I'm up for a looong time.

Anyway... enough rambling for me. Good luck!

Fitness Anyone doing SLIM IN 6? Jun 10 2009

Glad to hear you're still going strong on day 2 ronna. I am on day 7, starting Ramp it up this evening. I decided to start doing something else in the morning (since just thinking about going running makes me want to stay in bed..) -- this morning I tried the Cardio Core and oh boy was that a work out. I might try alternating with the Slim in 6-Pack.

FYI this is my second time starting. I did it once before back in 04 and got great results (i believe I did SIU for 2 weeks/RIU 2 weeks/and then at the end of the 4th week, I was in the middle of BIU and I was like 'screw this!' in a moment of weakness) which is what motivated me to actually buy the whole thing all over again since I lost everything. Another thing that I think will help is my boyfriend is working out/eating healthy now too! We drink Silk, eat 5x a day... I'm so ready to lose this fat! :)

One last thing, Ronna. My back hurts also when I do crunches and especially any ab exercises that use legs - my suggestion is to PULL your stomach muscles in even more. Hopefully that helps!
