Fast food: relating to, or specializing in food that can be prepared and served quickly. I think raiding the fruit bowl on my kitchen table is the fastest food I can get. :) Tastes better and it's healthy...well, except Bill & Bob's roast beef sandwiches dripping in bbq sauce and stuffed with onion rings. It takes over an hour for me to get one of those though. |

This is how I manage to get away with it...I write my name in for the first 2 (15-min) blocks, then write in a friend's name for the second two and then back to my own name...since the machine is reserved for the next 90 min, I don't have a problem. :) |

Original Post by bookworm12_2003: That is the ONE thing I really hate. I have started telling those sweat-sharing piglets to wipe down the machines when done. It seems the norm...and one of the people who do this was actually an employee of my gym. She's gone now, thank God. (Gross!!!) It is rude to leave your germs all over the machines...even if you are not ill, you can make someone else ill--gyms are filled with people trying to improve their health and those of us who have to take immunosuppressants are at risk. Plus, there is H1N1 now and the safest way to prevent the spread of illness is proper hand-washing (and that includes spraying and cleaning your own sweat off of any machines you are using). |

Here are some yummy and calorie dense foods:
I understand when it's possible to eat little and not have an appetite, even with extensive exercise. I've been there. The only reasons I can think of would be illness or as my niece once suggested, a "shrunken stomach" (meaning your stomach can't hold very much for food and you have to eat often). Try eating as often as possible--even if it's just a small amount. Initially you may have a bloated feeling (I did), but that is only temporary. Once your body is used to being nourished regularly, you will feel (and be) healthier--also, running will greatly improve!!!

| Foods | What are some Very VERY VERY Low Calorie Snacks??? | Aug 16 2009 23:06 (UTC) |

Original Post by olgaclark:
At only 9 calories per serving, they are very low calorie...even if you were to binge on the entire (large) jar, you would only be consuming 180 calories. I make a salad with them:
There is no need to add dressing for flavor. The spinach is good for helping your skin and hair while dieting (especially) and the tomato acids and vinegar help your body absorb the nutrients from the spinach. Spinach is a SuperFood and has sooooo many health benefits...one of which is beautifying your skin's appearance. This salad is very healthy and extremely low in calories. It's one binge food that you can feel good about over eating. :)

I think it would be wonderful for you and your Mum to work together to get healthier! I would love my mother (whole family, actually) to join me. Ask your Mum if you can buy a food scale (we have them here for under $15 at Walmart). They are not expensive, but they are very helpful. Weigh your food in grams then enter them on this site. I think a good tape measure is also very helpful. If you notice that you are not losing despite working out and eating healthy, you may see the difference in your body size instead of your weight. Choose foods that are healthy, like fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat low fat protein (like shrimp, fish, chicken breast, egg whites, etc.) and whole grains. Toss out the white bread and rice! Brown is better :) if it's whole grain! Nuts are a great snack in moderation (I eat them every day). Trade solid fats like butter for a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil...very tasty and a healthy fat. Don't forget to make an offer to your Mum...invite her to walk or workout with you everyday. You can even offer a challenge--like if you both stick to your new healthy eating plan AND walk (or exercise) for 30 minutes everyday for say, 2 weeks, then you can reward yourselves with something enjoyable...like a manicure, pedicure, new shoes.... Enjoy and remember that the journey of developing healthy habits can be fun! :) |

I eat a bit more calories than usual, but keep most portions small. I aim for Remember you are on vacation and it's only a week... how much damage do you really think you could do in such a short period of time by enjoying the foods of the area? Even if you gain a pound or two, it won't be the end of the world...just return to your normal eating/activity levels when you get back home. Have fun! :) |

Here's a snack that will make you feel full (total calories: 140): 2 Weetabix bisquits and 1 fiber water (Kellogg's makes it--it's powdered and comes in 2 flavors, Pink Lemonade and Iced Tea)). Before eating the Weetabix, take a drink of the water and then take small bites and have a sip of water between each one. It's very filling. (Also, very healthy). You can also add some yummy berries (they are low calorie and healthy). Tomatoes: a large one (plain) is very low in calories and filling. :) |

| Foods | Really.. how many calories in a normal/large sized apple? | Aug 04 2009 14:41 (UTC) |
3 |
Walmart sells a scale for about $14. You really need to buy one and weigh your foods in grams. I plan to continue to do this even after reaching my goal. It's the most accurate way to see how many calories/nutrients you are actually eating. There is a post about obsessing with a food scale...sorry, but I consider that MUCH better than under or overestimating my caloric/cholesterol/fat/carb intake. We are all gaining, losing or maintaing weight to become and remain healthy and weighing your foods before eating them is a major help in obtaining that goal of good health. If you are away from the food scale and want to eat the apple, just measure it with your hand and then when you get home, do the measurement...there are circumferences for fruit/veggies and they will give an approximate weight. Best to you! |

Best bet is to speak with a nutritionist specializing in geriatric diets. Good calories: New Whey '42' protien drinks (available at GNC). It a 180 calorie drink with 42 grams of protien (and it's only like 3.5 oz.). Foods like avacados, bananas and creamy peanut butter (mixed with milk to thin a bit) are high in calories and healthy. You can add peanut butter milk to oatmeal also. I believe that all nut butters are high calorie and healthy. I am sure you already know about Ensure. You can blend pasta and beans (baked beans usually are good and high calorie--also they have a high sugar content). Rice and lentils are good too. Any potatoes, but especially orange ones like yams are very healthy, high in calories and can be mashed. Salmon, eggs (with yolks), cheese, whole milk, brown rice, olive oil, and almond milk are easily mashed/blended or can be added to a mixture. :) Almond milk (also an almond butter): Also, don't forget about your slow cooker (crockpopt). You can cook lean beef until it's very tender and put it in the food processor/blender and/or add it to mashed sweet potatoes. Also, the beef broth is healthy and can be used as a liquid instead of water. Best to you and God bless you and your Mother. If you need any help, please just message me. :) -Lin |

Please, before you even consider such a drastic weight loss plan, ask yourself if you think your skin will be able to shrink enough (that fast). 78-lbs in 100-days is going to leave you with too much excess skin. THEN...think about sacrificing your good health. At some point you will have to start eating again. Don't you feel it would be wiser to take the time to lose the weight in a healthy manner while you are learning how to be your healthiest? I do. :) |

So what, you ate a lot today! I just did that recently as well (last Monday (7/27/09) I ate a whopping of 4 days of my normal intake of calories). It was GOOD and I enjoyed it immensely. It's really okay to pig out every so often. We're human and many of us enjoy eating too many calories...probably the main reason diet companies and sites like this are so popular. I only sweat out my first lapse which was in June. When I saw that I didn't gain weight, but actually lost after the binge I learned something. Your body is averaging your caloric intake and burn rate over a period of time (days???). I am sure if I didn't binge, I would have lost more weight (but just ounces more), the bottom line is that I didn't suddenly weigh 100-lbs more for pigging out at my favorite fast food place. My advice to you:

Original Post by tortoisewins: I can't get your link to work, but what you are describing is a "spontaneous abortion" which is the medical term for miscarriage. That is very different than a voluntary abortion. You implied that the animals chose to abort their babies when in fact nature made that decision. Miscarriage is entirely different than an abortion. Mothers who miscarry have not chosen to abort their child. I cannot find any credible info on that subject anywhere and I have even called my vet today and she said abortions are done on animals, but it's only because people choose (and pay) to have it done (obviously without the consent of the animal). Also, I am surprised that you could not find any information about what is done with the aborted babies remains. Some are cremated (especially late abortions), some are used for cosmetics, health products, medications, stem cells, research, etc. There is a HUGE profit in selling fetal body parts. If you search using Google, you will find sooooooo many links. However, many will be Christian. Here is a highly credible, non-Christian site for you to check out: The American Society for Cell Biology Just out of curiosity, your comment about parents of aborted children...if it's only a clump of cells and not a human being yet, then why would there be a memorial service in which the aborted babies are included with the ones that were miscarried? My clipped toenails are just a clump of cells and I don't feel the need to hold a memorial service for them. Maybe the hospital workers who do this realize that there are women (and "sperm suppliers") who will one day regret having taken a human life--a life they created. I did see that you quoted from someone's blog so I will quote from a forum post: *** WARNING: Not for the squeemish or extremely sensitive. ***
Really do a search if you are interested--not all info is pro-life nor Christian. You will find many scientific sites as well and be able to read first hand what they admit to doing legally. You will learn that it's not so uncommon for a baby to survive the abortion, but it's tossed in with the other abortions anyway. You will discover a few people who were aborted and lived to tell about it (rare, because usually they are just discarded along with successful abortions). You will also see that the abortion clinics WANT your baby because it's profitable...they SELL them to labs, etc. Sorry my post is soooo long. God bless you! -Lin |

I'm so glad that you are better...please continue to get healthier every day. I also tried Atkins and had to stop after 2 weeks. I gained weight and felt awful (I am a major veggie eater) and it just didn't work for me. I was going for "cuts" and a low body fat % but because my system couldn't handle the drastic change in diet, I was not receiving any benefit from it at all. I am sorry about your immune system. Even though that bacteria was already in your body, it seems to have had the perfect opportunity to attack you when your defenses were low (so it thrived and you became sick). I have an autoimmune illness which makes my immune system very powerful (it works to kill me if I don't take meds) and maybe that could have worked to my benefit if I continued with Atkins, but my body couldn't handle the high fat diet. Who knows...I am just glad to hear that you are alright now. God bless you, always! |

tortoisewins: Just wanted to point out that many people do get pregnant on birth control. If you think about it most pills are 98-99 percent effective, that means 1-2 out of every 100 can get pregnant.
tortoisewins: As far as critters aborting. I am not sure what PG is specifically referring to. But I know many species of animals that pregnancy will gestate longer or terminate when resources are scarce. And some animals will also eat or kill their own young. Rabbits, pigs, etc..
tortoisewins: And isn't it funny that the "life is in her hands". Apparently women must bear the weight of the world, because if they become pregnant they are wholly and totally responsible. I don't hear a lot of people going after the sperm suppliers.
Honestly, does anyone know of a site or somewhere that I can learn about animals that choose abortion? I cannot find anything of merit online--(just joke things) and I am fascinated...I have never heard of it before today. This seems even greater than Jane Goodall's discovery about chimps making tools. In case anyone has wondered what becomes of aborted babies: Fetal tissue wholesalers are companies which place employees in abortion clinics to harvest tissue, limbs, organs, etc. from aborted babies. This material is then shipped to researchers working for universities, pharmaceutical companies and government agencies. Although it is against federal law to sell human tissue or body parts, these organizations have devised a system to circumvent this restriction. Technically, all fetal material they harvest is "donated" to them by the clinics. However, they do pay a "site fee" to the clinics for the right to access the tissue. The tissue is then "donated" to the researchers who in turn pay the wholesalers for the cost of retrieval. Profit is realized by the wholesalers' ability to set their own retrieval fees. |

| Weight Gain | condiments / syrups | Jul 28 2009 08:54 (UTC) |

Unfortunately they are VERY important and can sneak up on you and attach themselves to your thighs. (Don't ask how I know this.) Many restaurants give super large portions, not even close to the 1-serving size. Here is a list of some of those condiments and their calories for 1-serving.
The BEST way to figure out your caloric intake is to prepare foods at home and weigh everything (in grams). It's near impossible to try and figure out how much you get when you are in a restaurant and record it later. Once I started to weigh my foods, I saw what a serving is and it was no where near the amount I was used to eating. The cream in your latte is at least 5 servings (guesstimate)? That would add 150 calories. Look at the others, like jelly, chocolate syrup and my favorite, cream cheese--I love gobs of it on a bagel. You can see how several servings do add up--and you are getting way more than one serving of cream in your latte for sure. I bought myself a great little scale at Walmart for $14. I weigh every gram that enters my mouth (except water). |

Original Post by pgeorgian: I can't seem to find anything about animals voluntarily aborting their unborn. Please provide links. Are these mammals? Mammal mommies are so nurturing and really, with small exception, most animals WANT their young to survive--it's instinct and important for the continuation of a species. Please send links or tell me how I may find out about animals voluntarily aborting their unborn. I am interested...I am a major animal lover and have never heard of such a thing (I am a very active volunteer for 2 organizations). The only animal abortions I have ever heard of involve people and I doubt the animal asked (or chose) to have an abortion. Also, about your comment about over-population: If a person feels as though we shouldn't continue our species because there are too many people on our planet now...then why shouldn't they be responsible about creating a new life. There are so many excellent options for birth control today and being lax about creating a life you don't wish to see survive is not responsible behaviour, nor is it truly an accidental pregnancy (unless you have no idea that sexual activity can lead to pregnancy). So, how would this be a justifiable argument for abortion? Would it be applied to those who have already been born? Who should decide who's life is worthy of living and whom should be slaughtered? That argument is nonsense. If you don't wish to get pregnant, then be responsible about birth control--someone's LIFE is in your hands. Original Post by pgeorgian:
