Health & Support how can i get taller? Aug 20 2009

I probably grew an inch to two after I graduated high school and went to university. So don't think too much about it, eat lots of things, enjoy your teens and then before you know it, you will have grown much taller :)

haha you know what's funny? Guys held doors for me all the time when I had long hair. Now that I cut my hair really short (boy short then and now it's a bob), I noticed a significant (no i haven't done a scientifically experiment) decrease in guys-holding-doors-for-me experience.

I don't hold doors if the person behind me is far from me but if they are close, I'll hold the door so the person behind me - regardless of gender - won't have to open a closing door.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  Finally, a superpower that works on my textured refrigerator!

Wow, that was just... too funny. thanks splitrail, you  made my day!

But my fav is Jean Grey. I've always liked telekinesis and telepathy for superpowers. And Batman!! Like someone said before, he doesn't need superpower to be a superhero ;D

I haven't really read any other posts than the original post but I have no friends in CC. I guess I don't socialize on CC much. I think I'm more sociable in RL.

Hey, don't sweat it. It's just a comment, why does his opinion matter, right? But I'm guessing you look probably tall with your height plus heels. And nothing wrong with tall girls, nothing un-feminine about that.

Motivation Body Image Issues Aug 14 2009
17:49 (UTC)

Well you should know eating under 1000 isn't healthy. And you probably do know that. If you are having body image issue, you will still have it when you lose weight.

I have a very similar stat as yours and sometimes I feel fat. But sorry honey, there is a limit to how far you can take your body. I believe the (over simplified) solution to body image problem is to accept your body as what it is and don't take out other frustrations on your body.

Foods Non fat or sugar free yogurt? Aug 13 2009

I agree with cweadock. When they say sugar free, they mean artificial sugar substitute. And there's nothing wrong with little fat from yogurt since you do need fat in your diet.

And I also recommend the same one, vanilla yogurt from stoneyfield.

DARN ITTTT D:

I won't lie, I was secretly (or not) hoping for positive answers.. Tbh, I'm pretty sure it's not really food that's causing it. You'd think after 23 years, you'd figure out when you eat ___, you start scratching like a madman.

Docs tell me to minimize consumption of pork, dairy products and some fish. So I will. And I happen to be going through a phase where I'm not really interested in meat. Something about the taste of meat that's not appealing.. So I'll continue trying to be veg/pesc. Thanks much for the information, mogochud!

So from what I gathered, you haven't talked much about future at all - I don't really understand why your bf wants to be engaged when there was no serious talk about future. Someone above mentioned that too, as to why he's hurrying. But you do understand from a guy's point of view, 25years is about time you get serious about getting married.

And many posters also pointed out that when they started dating, she was 15 and he was 20 - yea I find that a little disturbing also. BUT they did date for 5 years and now the age difference of 5 doesn't really matter as much as they did when they started. So I wouldn't worry about that as much.

There are always those couple of people who are really opinionated and I just nod. But they don't get the point and keep on talking... now THAT is draining.

But otherwise, I love talking to both talkative and not-so-talkative people. Just use your commonsense and if that person doesn't seem to be listening, s/he is either preoccupied with something or would rather do something else. You just have to get those subtle hints when people aren't really up for talking. But other wise, talk away! Don't be self-conscious!!!! A lot of people would love to have such attitude :D

The only ultimate question you should ask yourself, regardless what others think or tell you that you are too young is this:

DO YOU WANT TO MARRY HIM.

If it's no, obviously don't. If yes but you feel you are too young, it's okay to be engaged for however long until you feel you are ready. The fact that you came online to ask a bunch of strangers tell me you aren't feeling quite sure.

Hey I was in a similar situation as yours about a year ago. I was majoring in Computer Science and Psychology. I had declared Psychology as a major around my sophomore year and started working towards it. No biggie. Until I took a programming class and I absolutely loved it. So I was going for Psyc major and CS minor - until I thought about it more. Which one did I like better? Which major do I see myself working with later in the future? Computer Science. So I made it double degrees. But there was a slight problem, I wasn't going to be able to finish both degrees by the end of my senior year. I could have easily graduated on time with Psyc major and CS minor but I really wanted to work in programming field than useless Psyc bachelors. (I really think Bachelors in psyc is useless- in order to secure a job in psyc field - would require gradschool, masters or PhD. but if you just want a job, it's fine.)Oh and for some odd reason, minoring in Psyc wasn't an option. Besides, I was only 3 classes away from finishing that Psyc degree! I'd rather spend extra time to get the BS degree after all that time and effort I had put in it.

So I told my parents about wanting to take extra year to finish both degrees. And even then my course loads are usually 4~5 classes with all of them 400 lvl (for upperclassmen). Stressful yes. But in CS field, it's rather important to get CS degree (not necessary but strongly recommended) so I went with what I wanted to do with my life/future. And there's no shame in taking extra semester or year.

I'm hoping I can say the same about Parmesan cheese in some indeterminate future... I just can't stand the stinky smell or the sharp taste of Parmesan. It tastes like.. vomit to me.

I used to hate salad until I went to college. I went to dining hall and found nothing I liked, saw that the only non greasy/fried food was salad and decided to give it a go. And I love salad! I love the variety and versatility of mixing things up. Nuts and fruits, different veggies, sometimes chicken... YUM

I also had no love for cookies or burgers until 2 years ago but I decided to give them a second chance when I saw my bf scarf them down. Now I have a huge crush on cookies and burgers that won't go away!

Health & Support Not Everyone has an Eating Disorder!!! Aug 04 2009

As to why you see so many people throwing around the terms, because I think this section of the forum has a lot more posts regarding EDs.

While I understand that it might sting a bit to see it thrown around so lightly, I'd rather hurt 100 people's feeling if a warning could prevent someone from going down to that path of ED for the rest of his/her life. It is so disheartening to hear young girls eating so little to achieve what society defines as beauty. I can't even fathom what mothers would feel while reading such posts even though the OP isn't even related to them. And you will notice that most posts that warns OP of EDs are usually concerning and from worry. Some are rather scolding, yes, but that's because some people do get tired of the huge influx of ED related posts.

Besides I think most people on CC are very aware of the huge percentage of existing ED sufferers and are careful not to accuse people of such. I've been here a long time and mostly accusation occur when the OP states eating extremely little calories or exhibit strong signs of EDs.

Health & Support Eggs and Cholestrol Aug 03 2009

Eggs are high in cholesterol, and health experts in the past counseled people to therefore avoid this food. (All of the cholesterol in the egg is in the yolk.) However, nutrition experts have now determined people on a low-fat diet can eat one or two eggs a day without measurable changes in their blood cholesterol levels. This information is supported by a statistical analysis of 224 dietary studies carried out over the past 25 years that investigated the relationship between diet and blood cholesterol levels in over 8,000 subjects. What investigators in this study found was that saturated fat in the diet, not dietary cholesterol, is what influences blood cholesterol levels the most.

Improve Your Cholesterol Profile

Not only have studies shown that eggs do not significantly affect cholesterol levels in most individuals, but the latest research suggests that eating whole eggs may actually result in significant improvement in one's blood lipids (cholesterol) profile-even in persons whose cholesterol levels rise when eating cholesterol-rich foods.

I had a cheat "week" rather than a cheat day because I was on vacation. I ate icecream every single day (maybe twice a day even), ate unhealthy dinner every night with deserts and sodas. Oh and my cup runneth over with wine. I might have gained a pound or two (or 5) but I'm not too worried or upset because I try to work out everyday, I try to eat healthy every meal and hey, it was a vacation!

I love the rain, makes me feel badass.

I have to agree. When it storms outside and people are running for the cover, it makes me feel so awesome and energized to know that I'm enjoying the run and rain, people staring at me like I'm crazy. In fact, I try to go run right before the storm so that after half my run, I would run through rain.

Health & Support SUBCONSCIOUSNESS is killing me!! I hate it when people look at my body. Jul 23 2009
21:34 (UTC)

I used to never wear skirts (let alone short skirts/shorts) because I really hate how my legs look. And I have similar stat as you. I always thought my legs look unproportionally thicker and fat compared to my upper body, and thought that other people thought the very same things too. I even wished they can shave my knees thin (because my knees are knobby) so I can have thinner slimmer legs... but you can't.

But one day, I said "F that." I can't wear cute short skirts when I'm 70 yrs old. So do it when you can. It's really hard to accept it but if you never try, you will never be happy with what you have.

I think I grew until sophomore year of college. So yes, you will probably grow more.

Not to sound too crude but at age of 13, don't worry about your weight or measurement so much. They are bound to change as your body goes through puberty and mature.

Practically every public school in my state banned whole milk from the cafeteria...

And skim milk still has as much calcium as whole milk, what's so bad about skim?

Well, besides needing fat in your diet, fat in milk helps with absorption of calcium.

So milk > pill. (but then again, I like natural stuffs so I may be biased, ha)

Original Post by blue2525:

I am glad you too found how great sparkling water is for you and helping to avoid carbonated pops and sugar cravings.  For me it was more about not being interested in flat water and not drinking enough.  I love sparkling water (no flavor) so much that I drink twice the water now and less champagne which I love.  I even put Pelligrino in a wine glass now and "pretend" its champagne.  As you get more into this you will notice that you will favor a certain brand.  For me I have turned into a water snob.....I love Pelligrino and will have Perrier only if that is all there is.

Haha that's funny... For some odd reason, I prefer Pellegrino far more than Perrier. In fact, I get annoyed if they only have Perrier instead of Pellegrino. Have you tried other Pellegrino flavors? I abhor any flavor from Pellegrino.

I also drink seltzer too. Lots of them.
