Motivation Teens wanting to lose weight May 08 2007

Hey, jitterbug. I'm 18, 5'6", and at one point I used to weigh 122. I think my most natural weight was 125, the number that my body always bounced back to whenever I gained or lost weight.

I currently weigh.... um, I don't know. I'm too scared to look at the scale, haha, but I think I secretly gained 10 pounds these past 2 weeks to fit into my prom dress (I bought a dress a little too big, sniff sniff). So that might be a number around 135 (I about died when I saw the number 130 on the scale, haha. I've never seen that number before in my life!)

I don't know if I can be reliable enough to be counted on as a partner, but I'm trying to lose at least my prom-weight so that I can fit back into my pants again! Ahhhhhh!

thebledx3, do you know why you didn't have your period for three months? My last one was the last week of february, so it's already been two months. I've always been highly irregular, and had a tendency to skip a month every few months, but skipping two months just makes me a wee bit uncomfortable.

I thought Atlas Shrugged was much, much better than Fountainhead, and the philosophy was more defined and less contradictory in that book.

If you enjoyed it that much, I suggest you try the national Ayn Rand Essay contest that the Ayn Rand institute likes to do. I won a $2000 scholarship last year for second place. Oh, and the next year they'll send you a free book just for entering (so I did Anthem in 10th grade, then they sent me Fountainhead last year and Atlas Shrugged this year for free! Whoopee!)

Weight Loss teenager - 17 years old - need help with problem areas, mostly thighs Apr 23 2007

I really think it is genetics. I'm 5'6", and at one point I lost weight down to 115, and realized that there was a small difference in my thighs that the scale and tape measure both revealed, but I still looked more or less the same. Then I realized that I was just built to have that body shape, and will never have the trim, slender thighs that my sister has.

haha, I'm about to enter college this fall, and I keep telling myself the exact opposite: that I'll be able to lose weight better in college.

My problem is how much I snack between meals, so I figure if I can only swipe my meal card 3 times a day, I'll be okay. Anddddd Yale has the largest gym in the US, so hopefully I'll make good use of that!

Hum, now I'll just have to learn to control myself at the buffets... darnit

I disagree. I'm 5'6 and my range is 120-125, so I think your minimum could be 115lbs, or maybe a pound or two below (but not too much!!)

while supernova may have better songs, it has these pesky "unlock" challenges to unlock most of the songs, so I'd say as a beginner, you're better off with Max2.

Again, like everyone said, you can set height and weight into consideration and it will calculate calories burned, and yes, it will hurt the tops of your calves a lot.

However, I should mention that you get very little workout at first. Yes, do the Beginner version of every song in the beginning, but there is very little exercise involved at first. After you get a little better, you can start playing on Light and Standard modes, and then you will be getting more of a real workout! Can't wait until you hit the Heavy level, then you can easily burn more like 30 calories a song, which equates to 300+ calories flying off in a half hour. At least, flying off much faster than most other forms of exercise.
Foods Fruits Are Good Frozen Jan 19 2007

I'm glad you guys like the frozen oranges! Although, with the freeze that just destroyed all that strawberry and citrus crop, I don't think we'll be getting oranges for a while. (Isn't it ironic, though, that here we are freezing them, and it's a natural freeze that killed the crop?)

Claire, what do you mean the milk freezes around the berries? Then what do you do?

Frozen fruit is SO much better than canned fruit (unless you get canned fruit in its natural juice and no sugar/syrup) and dried fruit (again, unless no sugar added).

Although, if you freeze banana sliced thinly enough, would it resemble dried banana chips enough? I know people who like to freeze bananas as popsicles, but I'm going to try the frozen-chip idea, since my dad just bought a whole bunch of bananas.

sorry, claire, I have to disagree about the beef&broccoli. I love it, love it love, and my mom makes it all the time, but every time I've looked at restaurant nutrition facts for a beef&broccoli dish, it was SOOO CALORIFIC!

No, besides broth-based soups, I can't think of any better restaurant alternatives, either. How about wonton soup, and stick to 5-10 wontons ? The liquid will help fill you up.

wow! Thank you both for these articles!

However, michelle, I did find your article a little hard to follow and am still not completely sure about how to set a weight program. I sort of understand how to figure out the weights you should be lifting, but not really how many reps (first they say you should be able to do 12, but then they uses 10 as an example?) and definitely nothing about sets. I never understood sets.

Could you try explaining it to me, in another way?

I see pictures of my dad way-back-when, and he was sooo slim, and he ate 6 bowls of rice everyday... just for dinner. (and he was really studious, hardly into athletics)

He started packing on the pounds ONLY when he was introduced to pizza, and had to resort to eating nothing but pizza for a long time while my mom moved away for a year and he had no one to cook for him.

Aha, I look at pictures of him as a skinny student in grad school in in his late twenties and cannot recognize him from the large, round man he is now.
