| Foods | What does Soymilk classify as? | Mar 16 2009 16:16 (UTC) |

I'm pretty sure it is a bean product because soy is a bean and soy milk is soy bean extract and some sugar with added Calcium. Unless there is a milk substitute area, it is a legume. |

| Weight Loss | Body Fat Percentage?! | Mar 16 2009 16:11 (UTC) |

I always had trouble with that also because I am exactly that height and the BMI chart said that I should be like 97 lbs, I medium bones also and found that anything below 120 is too thin. I was 110 once and my family and friends told me I needed to gain weight because I looked scary. It is all about person judgement, the BMI chart is one tool of many that are used by professionals to gauge weight to height ratios. It does not take into account many things, including your muscle and where body fat sits, which plays a huge role in health. If you are physically comfortable with the amount of body fat you have and it is within the healthy range of body fat % or the BMI or through measurments then you are healthy, everyone is different and your body will tell you if it is not healthy. |

| Vegetarian | i would like to be vegan... | Nov 20 2007 23:58 (UTC) |

I am a vegan, and to do it properly takes a lot of research. There are vegan friendly products out there, usually in the organic/specialty food sections of the grocery store. There are even vegan pastries out there. Vegan does not equal anorexic. I even know vegans who are heavier because the diet does not mean you cannot have olive oil, butter and cheese substitutes ect. I tend not to eat things that resemble eating meat or dairy, it seems like cheating to me. The only thing I use is egg replacer substitutes in baking. So, most breads do not have egg in them especially artisan bread. It is really easy to find bread that is vegan friendly. It is also expensive to be a vegan. There is also an issue with getting the proper nutrition and eating well rounded meals. It is important to get complete protein chains and omega fatty acids. If you decide to go the Vegan route it would be beneficial to research what vegans lack dietary wise and get a multivitamin that is made especially for vegans/vegetarians. You also need to look at it as a lifestyle and less like a diet, it is hard to come off the vegan diet because your body will adapt to not having dairy and meat so if you decide to revert back, it may take your body for an unpleasant spin. You also need to remember that there are different levels of veganism, anywhere from just dietary to what you wear, what health and beauty products you buy and researching corporations that may use animal products/test on animals. You dont have to swear by all of them. Anyways, those are all the issues I can think of but it really can be beneficial and cleansing to you internally. So look at all the information and consider taking flax seed oil for omega 6's (it is very difficult to find omega 3's in non-meat origins) and decide whether it is worth the effort or if you think you can keep up with all the specifics. You tend to adapt to it eventually and you can make some really yummy vegan foods if you try.
Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | Fruits and Veggies dont count? | Oct 27 2007 19:04 (UTC) |

a calorie is a calorie no matter where you get it from. Im not sure your stats but 1,000 calories would be low if you were counting the fruit and veggies. for basal metabolism women need anywhere from 1100-1200 calories a day. That is just for normal body functions like breathing, blinking, autonomic nervous system ect. so any movement you do on top of that while only eating 1000 calories cut into those vital calories. Also, your body will compensate for the loss and slow down functioning (metabolism is a big one!) and brain and physical functioning will slow down which no one wants. I would say, eat all the fruits and veggies you want on top of 1200 calories a day and don't worry too much about it BUT some fruits and veggies have more calories than others, fruit a lot more than veggies. So, dont go too overboard because they are not a free food and add up in the end.

| Foods | Can you eat TOO many health food bars in one day? | Sep 12 2007 02:07 (UTC) |

| As long as you are counting them into your daily allowance of calories there is no problem with you having three. In reality that is only 330 calories and you eat them spanned through out the day, not three in one sitting. You also go to the gym.. so I really don't see any issue with them, they are usually fortified with vitamins too! | |||

| I don't know how "healthy" this is per se since it does not benefit you nutrient wise, but there are these "fudge" bars by Tofutti (a company that makes desserts for Lactose Intolerant people) and these things taste really good. They are only 30 calories each and NO SUGAR. I eat them all the time (like 3 a night) and I have not gained a pound. Pound cake is also pretty good for you.. and you can get it sugar free. There is also fat free cool whip, it is only 12 calories and no fat. try mixing some frozen berries in it, or fat free/sugar free pudding. | |||

| Golean by Kashi is the best cereal, high fiber and low sugar. It is a little expensive as well as Bare Naked "fit" granola which is the only granola i have been able to find that has low sugar. Also, my favorite snack, if you have a fridge in your dorm, is whole wheat pita bread and hummus. Hummus is good fat, and soooo yummy it is also very filling. | |||
