I also like guys who can fix things!  Maybe it's sexist, but when a guy can't change a tire or install something simple, they lose lots of sex appeal.

This works out great for me cause I can fix anything mechanical, or building things I always seem to get them to work.  I don't know how but I do.  I find short girls attractive (I'm a 6' tall guy btw), and not just a little shorter than me I find it really sexy when a girl's like 5'0-5'3.  It's just so cute and feminine.

Drink lots of water the day before in the morning and mid-afternoon.  Then don't drink much that night or the next day until your weigh in.  Drinking lots of water the day before will let your body release the excess water

like bmx said it depends.  If you just had A day like this then it's no big deal but you wouldn't want to do that for very long.  If you worked out for 5 hours I would guess you burned more than 1100 calories, that'd be only 220 calories per hour which is like very light exercise, I'd guess you burned close to twice that, although I'm sort of basing that on me and I'm 3-4" taller than you and 70 lbs heavier.

You could always just donate money if you really don't want to blow your calories for the day.  Or you could just have a cheat day and feel good about it because some of the money went to cancer research.

I'm heading off to college in a month (Cal Poly SLO YEAH!!) and I'm an incoming freshman.  I've been eating really well for the last few months and I've lost 26 lbs so far.  I'm curious to see if I can maintain my healthy lifestyle once I leave.  I'm sure I'll get way more exercise (I'm fairly sedentary now) even if I don't make it to the gym because I won't have a car, only a bike.  It's a big and hilly campus, maybe not big compared to other colleges but way bigger than my high school.  Fortunately I got into the Cerro Vista Apartments there instead of the dorms so I'll have a kitchen and a fridge/freezer so that I'll be able to cook for myself a lot of the time and not order pizza.  I have been using lean cuisines and healthy choices for a lot of my meals which is nice because I have problems with portion control and those are really helping me with that.  But you have to freeze them and the dorms have no freezers so that would've sucked.  I'd love to join a college age accountability group too if someone starts one.

yes you will lose weight without exercising.  I know it's better if you exercise and that'll you be healthier if you do but you can do it without exercising.  I think if you lose weight without exercising you head towards the "skinny" body type whereas if you exercise (weight training most importantly) then you head towards a "fit" body type.  I've always been obese and now that I've decided to take control of my body I kind of want to "try on" different body types before I decide where I want to be for the rest of my life.  I have a lot of friends who are skinny (btw I'm a guy and I'm talking about guy friends) and they seem to like it, they don't try to be muscular, they're happy being skinny and thin.  So I've been dieting and not doing weight training, although I have been doing about 30 minutes cardio a day.  I want to be that "skinny" body type and then see how I look and feel about myself with that body type.  Then I'm going to bulk up and add some muscle and try being the "buff" guy whos all muscular for a while.  and I'm sure it's way harder than I think it is to change my body type that much but I'm going to at least try to experiment with "different bodies".  Sorry this turned into such a long post but good luck with your weight loss!

yeah, just eat the amount you burn for say 3 days and then go back to the diet. If that doesn't work then try it for a week.

you hit a plateau, there's a couple things you can try to break through it.  1 - change up your exercise routine, 2 - have a cheat day/meal (it tells your body it's alright to lose some more fat), 3 - eat at maintenance for a few days

I started my "new lifestyle" on June 13th of this year and as of today (almost 2 months) I've lost 25.2 lbs.  That seems like a lot to some people for 2 months but I had about 90 lbs to lose when I started so I've got a lot more than most people.  I started at 249 lbs and want to get down to 160 lbs.  Drinking water helps a lot with losing weight, it can make you feel full when you're craving something and it also helps your body metablize fat.  I probably drink more than I should (about 100-120 oz per day) but I think it's better than not drinking enough.  As of today I officially lost 10% of my body weight, which is awesome, and I'm 28.31% done with my weight loss.

I'm a male teenager, I'm 17, from the US, 6' tall and right now weight 225 lbs.  I am a large framed guy but 225 is about 65 lbs too heavy for me.  I started my "new lifestyle" about 2 months ago at 249 lbs, so I've lost 24 lbs so far.  I want to get down to about 160 lbs and then maybe go down to 150/155 lbs depending on how I look.  Then I'll probably try to bulk up and add some muscle up to about 170 to look buff instead of skinny.  I know how you feel about the moobs (man boobs), they suck.  and being "friend zoned" all the time is the worst, it happens to me all the time.

Dude, 150/155!? I'm 5' 9" and right now 162ish. If I saw someone who was 3 inches taller than me, but only 150lbs, I'd afraid of breaking them if I shook their hand. It's good to have goals, albeit they need to be healthy ones. 160lbs sounds a little more reasonable, assuming you have no muscle mass....

I said maybe i'd get down to 150, I've been down to 170 before and I was still kinda chub.  So I figured I'd get down to 160 and then see how I look.  If I'm fairly skinny at 160 then I'll bulk up and add some muscle and gain like 10-20 lbs.  And 150 lbs would give me a BMI of 20.3 so it's not underweight.  I've been obese all my life and I'd like to at least know what it feels like to be thin.  And as of this morning I'm only 2.2 lbs from being in the overweight category instead of obese.

Young Calorie Counters Why the Weight? Aug 11 2009

I am losing weight because I'm fed up with being the fat guy.  I'm 17 and haven't had a girlfriend in 4 years, I know people say that confidence is everything but it's had to be confident when you're 90 lbs overweight (well was 90 lbs overweight, now I'm only 65 lbs overweight)  I'm leaving for college in a month and I realized about 2 months ago that I won't fully enjoy the college experience if I'm fat while I'm there.  I'm going to Cal Poly which is like 10 minutes from the beach and that's what everyone does for fun, and if I'm fat I'm not gonna go to the beach to enjoy myself because I'll be embarrassed.  And I'd like to have a girlfriend in college, which would be a lot easier if I was at a normal weight.  And I want to be able to go to parties and not be the fat guy no chick wants to hang out with.

It's up to you, 1700 is plenty to not have to worry about starvation mode.  You could subtract the exercise calories from the food you ate and have the same weight loss as if you weren't exercising and eating less, while getting to eat more.  Or you could not eat the extra 370 calories and lose weight faster, I guess it depends on how satisfied you are with the rate of your weight loss.

9 lbs in the first 2 weeks is pretty normal.  I think you might have a little loose skin after loosing 50 lbs if it's faster than about 6 months but more than that I don't think you have to worry about it.  If you really want to be extra sure you don't get loose skin use a moisturizer daily or twice daily and it will increase the elasticity of you skin so it will be able to contract better as you lose weight.  Congrats on your 9 lbs so far

How recently did you start dieting?  Because if this was your first week of dieting then it's normal to lose more weight than planned, it's from your body getting rid of a stored water.  Some people can lose up to like 12 lbs in the first week but then it generally slows down after that.  As for the loose skin, it depends on your stats and how much you're planning on losing, and the rate at which you lose it.

Original Post by yaza:

teens shouldnt even be eating less than 3000 calories a day, i remember when i was 15-16 if i eat anywhere under 3000 i would be shaking and feeling extremely lazy. im nearly 20 now, and im eating 3000 to maintain, with no exercise, even 3000 cals now i feel like im starving myself.

I heard people say stuff like that the entire time I was growing up.  "He's a growing boy, he should eat as much as he wants" and bad advice like that is how I ended up at 249 lbs.  I finally realized that that's not true at all.

I'm male 17, 226 lbs (as of this morning) and 6' tall and eating 1500 calories a day trying to lose weight.  Lost 23 lbs so far, 60 lbs to go.

I've been doing good, I went up to 234 while on vacation (from 232) but since then my weight loss has sped up quite a bit, it's only been 7 days since I got home but I'm down to 228.4 lbs (5.6 lbs in 7 days) and I'm hoping it'll continue like this.  I'm making some peach sugar free jello for tomorrow since I found out it's super low calorie (I'm probably the last person to figure this out but w/e).  I couldn't believe you can have 4 cups of jello for only 80 calories!  How's everyone else been doing.

kamqueenb - yeah, I was suprised but I lost 20 lbs in a little over a month, although probably a lot was water weight.  I started out eating a little unhealthily (I hadn't looked at the forums or anything so I didn't know) but I was eating like 1250 calories a day.  Since I discovered that that's unhealthy (it took a couple weeks) I've been eating around 1400-1450 a day.  I was working out by doing a 2 mile bike ride on my street every day (150 cals) and then doing our stair stepper for about 20 minutes (200 calories) and that was about it.  It only took about an hour, after I got back from vacation I changed it up a little, I've been biking 5 miles a day (about 350 cals) and not doing the stair stepper.  I decided to do that instead because when I go to Cal Poly this coming year I'm not bringing my car, only my bike so I've got to be able to ride somewhere without sweating like crazy by the time I get there.

Weight Loss Diet Soda's. Jul 26 2009

I love diet sodas, they're great for curing cravings.  All this talk about aspartame being bad for your health is a bunch of bullsh1t.  The only studies that "prove" anything are on mice and the mice are given roughly 500 times the aspartame in a diet soda every day for like a year, so you're giving a creature 1/200 th the weight of a person 500 times as much aspartame as drinking a diet soda.  Do the math... that's 100,000 times the aspartame per lbs that a person drinking one diet soda a day would have.  You give anything that much of any chemical and it's going to be bad for it.  I hate how people think aspartame is so bad for you just because it's not natural.

Fitness Would like to start running but I'm 60 lbs over weight Jul 24 2009
23:32 (UTC)

I'm about 60 lbs overweight as well (working on losing weight but it takes time) and my legs absolutely hate running.  They always have, but then again I've always been overweight.  Be careful about running being that overweight, in high school when I was required to run for P.E. I ended up destroying the cartilige in my right knee and now have pain in that knee even on low impact activities (Thanks stupid PE teachers) and I have chronic shin splints for the excess stress from running and being overweight.  I'm sticking to biking and using the stair climber, it still hurts my knee but not even close to as much as running.  Hopefully once I lose the 60 lbs I'll stop having knee problems and be able to run without injury.

Weight Loss Can someone Help Please!! Jul 24 2009

You should probably be eating a little more, like 1400-1500 calories since your working out.  the P90X will help you get strength but won't do much for weight loss.  Cardio, drinking lots of water and spacing out your meals to be like 6 a day instead of 3 bigger meals will help you lose weight.

Suggest that that older family member keep the junk food in his/her bedroom and eat them there.  Not sure if they'd be okay with that but if they would do that I think it would help a lot.

She has probably damaged her metabolism extensively.  I don't know if that much damage is permanent, but at the very least it will take quite a while to recover, I'd guess at least a year of eating normally, which probably means weight gain considering her metabolism right now.  Good luck.

Weight Loss need to help my brother.. advice please :) Jul 22 2009

I was in a pretty similar situation as your brother, I'm male, 17 yo, 6', and was 250 lbs.  The thing that really helped me was I met this cute funny girl, who was very thin and fit, and we enjoyed spending time with each other, but when I asked her out she said no because I was overweight.  For me that was the "enough is enough" point and I've since lost 19 lbs, it's only a start but it's something.  This website has helped me a lot and if he really wants to lose weight I don't think counting calories is too overwhelming, it's just useful.  If he wants to make an account on here I'd be glad to be his weight loss buddy.  Good luck with your brother, and congratulations on your weight loss.

Weight Loss I think this may be recomp! Jul 22 2009

so are you trying to gain muscle or lose fat?  Because it's very hard to do both at the same time, you've probably lost a little fat since Febuary (I would guess less than 10 lbs) and gained muscle.  But if you really want to lose fat you need to lower your calorie intake to between 1500-1750.  That will make it harder to gain muscle but you'll be losing a lot more fat.  If you continue your workouts they will maintain the muscle you have so that as you lose fat you don't lose muscle.  Gaining muscle is great long term but it'll take many months, if not years, for muscle gain alone to help you lose weight.  Each pound of muscle gained only burns 6 more calories a day.  And gaining 10 lbs of muscle is fairly hard, even though it only burn 60 more calories a day.  Bottom line: If you want to lose fat/weight then lower your calorie intake.

First of all, you are in no way fat.  I'm also 17 and heading off to college this summer, I'm a guy btw, and I've been fat all my life (like BMI of over 30) and I've only had one girlfriend when I was 12.  Finally working on getting healthy, but it's not instant.  I wish I could've gotten a girlfriend with that kind of body, you look damn good girl!  You're 17 and in college already?  That's cool, I'm going to be the same way, I'll be 17 my entire freshman year.  What college do you go to?

Weight Loss Regarding an unintentional vomit? Jul 22 2009
04:58 (UTC)

Since most of the nutrients are absorbed in our intestines, not our stomach, I think it would be alright to eat more food to replace the food you vomited up.   And I don't think you can vomit up food from your intestines.  But at the same time it wouldn't hurt you to eat at maintenance until the flu is over with so that your body can get a chance to heal and fight off the flu.  but at the very least you could eat some food to replace what went up and out.

Weight Loss So do you lose your cravings? Jul 21 2009

I'm the same way with junk foods, if I start having a small portion of them I end up eating the entire box, or bag.  So I just don't eat them anymore except on special occasions, you will still occasionaly have the cravings but they'll be much weaker and easier to overcome.  I guess for people like us there's something addictive about those kinds of foods.  Good luck on your journey

Weight Loss Scale fears... Jul 21 2009

I just got back from my 1 week vacation on Friday and I thought I would've gained at least 5 pounds because I ate out at least once a day, and went to the chinese buffet (ate way too much), and basically just sat around in the hot tubs all day (fun, but not very active).  Came back home and I'd only gained 2.4 lbs, and now 3 days later I'm already down to 231.2 below when I left 231.6.  So don't worry about it too much, just go back on the diet after vacation and in a few days you'll be good : )
