Hey thtlola! I've broken through my plateau only to set into another one... I was at 180 and unable to budge for nearly a month, I finally fell to 177 and that's where I've been for the past 3 weeks now. School is definetly a stressor and I haven't been keeping up with anything at all the first week of school...I had scheduling conflict and I'm sure you all know that to fix a school's error, it takes days. I feel like I have lived in the Busar's office for the last week, and the gym I usually go to closes at 7. I go to class from 8-8:45 and my only break is exactly an hour long (how long I usually work out) so there's no time left to get to the gym, get a locker, a machine, shower, and to class. I'm hoping that once school is settled and we're all into our new routine for the next semester, that we can make new fitness accommodations and stay on track. I'm so glad to see someone reply! It's always encouraging to see that we suffer from the same downfalls. Keep up the good work and I'll report back soon, hopefully with some progress! |

Original Post by thtlola: I've hit a plateu due to work as well. I didn't stop working out all together, but I've dropped from 7 days a week to maybe 4 or 5. I've been working 7 days a week since April but now that the summer is almost over, I've just felt drained and when I get home exercise is the LAST thing I want to do. I think that the only route I can go to stay successful is to go back to the gym rather than working out at home. Once I get home, I just want to crash. I'm glad to hear that you've shaken your plateau back into progress and I hope that I will start seeing similar results... |

Thanks for the tip about the multi vitamins! I'm going to have to invest in those, especially for potassium defficciency (bananas are so high in calories!) and I keep getting cramps in my calved while working out. Great job keeping up with your exercise! I must admit, last week wasn't a very good one for me : / I only made it 3 days. I'm def impatient and it feels like my goal date is so far away. I'm sticking with it, but I guess until I see some results, it's all self motivation. I've been out to eat twice this week and thought that I did really well, until I came home and put everything into CC. There's really no "good" alternative in Tex-Mex food or hamburgers! But I'm keeping my eye on the prize and I just keep trying to picture myself thin and how happy I'll be. Only down 3 lbs so far, which I guess is pretty good for 2 weeks. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more people on here! Come on college kids! I know you're out there and you're struggling just like we are! |

Ok, guys, I have an accomplishment to share! I know that it probably seems like nothing to some of you, but was a HUGE step for me. Last night I went to the movies (my absolute FAVORITE snacking destination) and I went with a friend who is SUPPOSSED to be dieting with me. She starts talking about popcorn and an Icee. Now, Blue Razeberry Icees have to be one of my fav things, and I actually started to consider, but then I stopped and looked up the nutrition facts on CC on my cell phone and found that it is 80 calories for 6 OUNCES! So a whole small Icee would have been 267 calories, or to put it another way 38 minutes of cardio! I'm proud to say that my friend and I both sat through the entire movie with nothing but water, had a great time, and didn't have any regrets. So how is everyone else? Any success stories, and shortfalls? No one posts on here! |

I origionally researched and found that I should be eating about 1500-1600 calories a day until I joined cc and it suggested I eat 1200. I thought that sounded wrong but I kept hearing others that were doing the same thing. I don't mind increasing with the right foods, but I really am getting full just on the 1200. I thought about incorporating a protein bar pre-work out and a protein shake post workout since those are both pretty high in calories and good carbs/proteins. Any suggestions? Sorry to deviate from the origional post! |

I do actually! When I'm stressed out, I def start feeling the need to eat, and ALWAYS overeat. I'm pretty sure it had to do with the fact that when I was a child I was rewarded with food (i.e. good grades got me a dinner out, cookies and snacks for good behavior, same with a bad day, my mom would bake me a cake to make me feel better) so I've had to start telling myself that I don't NEED to eat, I WANT to eat because I've been programed to want it. I start listening more to my body - am I hungry? If I really am hungry or if I'm just so upset that I can't resist, I eat fruit. It not only satisfies my sweet tooth, but I get to eat, and fulfill my childhood "sweets make everything better" mentality. Try frozen grapes, yum! Also, if you need something more substantial (in the sweet category) I know the best diet "cookie" recipe: 1 cup of honey bunches of oats cereal (this is the best one, but if you want to go healthier, try just quacker oats) 1 cup of dark chocolate chips (try to get the highest % of cocoa) 1 1/2 cup of dried cherries Melt the chocolate, add the cherries and cereal, mix and drop 1 tbsp size scoops on a cookie sheet. Let cook in the fridge for 3-4 hours until chocolate hardens. Enjoy!
Hope this helps! Stick with it! |

Thanks nene! I will def try the one night a week thing! That will save me sooo much time and hopefully will get me out of this negative funk. I can't beleive I'm complaining so early in! Basically the way I lost the weight that one summer was a super unhealthy diet of fiber one cereal and salad, that's it, all day every day. I don't know how I did it, really. I would kill for that will power now! Plus I walked everywhere since I didn't have a driver's license yet and that was my only form of transportation. But I know just how you feel, even when I was 140 I thought I was disgusting. I couldn't stop picking at everything. I hated my arms, my thighs, my stomach, everything seemed horrid. Now I'm dreaming of the days where I could ever even think of wearing a bikini again! The supportive boyfriend can definetly be a blessing and a curse. I finally had to tell him that I needed him to stop telling me that he loves me big, I told him that I want him to love me HEALTHY so we can live a long life together. What is your basic diet like? I feel like I'm not incorporating enough fruit and veggies because I get so full after my protein/carbs. I have to force myself to eat an apple in between meals. I know this is kind of a cheat question, but could I just take a multi vitamin to supplement for the difference of fruit and veggies? I eat 2 salads a day, and eat 3 apples, but I can't reach that 6 fruits a day. I'm trying to stay focused on the small victories, which has been easy for me because for some reason I'm losing rapidly. Now that I think back on all my diets, I always drop quickly at the beginning then plateau for a while before I start taking it off 1 lb a week. So far, I've lost 5 lbs this week. It seems so excessive, and I know it's not healthy, but I'm literally doing everything I'm suppossed to (meeting my caloric intake and exercising) and I guess this is how my body reacts. But it does make for a really nice inspiration to see those numbers going down! Thanks again and I know we can all do this, together. |

I agree, dkenworthy high school was definitely fun, but college is the best time of your life! I'm trying to adsorb it all while I can! I am so proud of your weight loss and just how everything felt hopeless when you had your whole body of fat to lose, now you're in your in your critiquing mode, you are going to start nit-picking and all those feelings will come back but now aimed at one body part. I'm still far away from my weight loss goal, and HATE my arms too. I never wear sleeveless or short sleeves, no matter how hot it is (as a matter of fact it's 105 in New Orleans right now with humidity in the 80% range) and I'm wearing 3/4 length. It's all about dressing for your body. People always say that I wear my weight well, when really I just hide my least favorite body parts and accentuate my fav parts. So, until you reach your goal (and I know you will), just try dressing in a way that makes you feel good about yourself and you'll be surprised how that affects your confidence level. When I dress cute, I feel prettier, all over. Just remember, it's only temporary, and then you can flaunt those sculpted arms! P.S.cellotlhicks Can you be my weight loss buddy?! I was inspired from that post! You are one of the most upbeat and positive people I've come across so far, keep it up we all need more people like you on here! |

Thank you nycgirl! Man, it amazes me how many people have joined this site and aren't using it fully or researching at all! I joined looking for help, thinking that I couldn't really know that much, until I started reading. I'm finding that I'm giving more advice than getting because everyone just joins and asks group questions expecting someone to tell them what to do without finding out for themselves. I'm not being rude, but this idea is just silly. First things first, you're not losing because you're not eating enough. 1200 calories a day is bare minimum to stay alive. You are essentially tricking your body into thinking you are starving and it in turn is preparing for a fast. Your body starts shutting down, less energy, slower metabolism, all in a combined effort to store fat. You should use cc and all the helpful caloric calculators in your profile. This will tell you how much you need to eat to balance out with your exercise level. Which brings me to my next point, how much are your exercising? One thing I did do before starting a weight loss regimen was RESEARCH!!!! If you have even an hour of just simple online reading, you will see that 1200 calories is def bare minimum, especially if you're exercising. Get to know how the body works, here are a few facts that you should never, EVER forget: |

| Weight Loss | Just cut that out! | Jun 20 2009 22:01 (UTC) |

Like everyone else, I haven't literally fantasized about cutting the fat, but definetly have imagined ridiculous situations that would never happen, like 3 wishes or the magic wand thing. But that always makes me more depressed, because if you could change anything, the list could be endless. I remember one particular occassion that I started thinking how awesome it would be if I could just give someone a list and *poof* it would happen, but before I knew it the list was like 2 pages long and I was thinking about my freaky Fred Flinstone toes. But then back to real life, all I really want is to be thin FOREVER and maybe that laser hair removal wouldn't be a bad idea either!
Side note: Is that really a sympton of ED? People actually have fantasies and consider doing this? |

Unfortunately, this is part of the arduous life of weight loss. If you just started dieting, give it a little while and you'll start seeing the inches zip away. If you've been on this weight loss regimin for a while and still aren't seeing changes in inches, you may need to watch your sodium intake. If you're eating too much sodium, it forces your body to retain water, hence less weight, more inches. Good luck and stick with it! |

| Young Calorie Counters | losing weight and falling in love ... | Jun 20 2009 21:29 (UTC) |

It makes me feel terrible to read this. I can hear your insecurities and I can relate. So I'll start by saying that everyone's posts above are great advice, be yourself and be the best of who you are. If you beleive that you can have anyone you want, more people will want you. If you're getting attention from this guy, you must be doing something right! Let him know that its not going unnoticed by returning the attention. Second, do you want to lose weight to impress a guy? If you think about it, wouldn't you want him to like you how you are now, to know for sure that he likes you for you? The BEST thing you can do is find someone who likes you when you feel the worst about yourself, because that is real love. Next, you should not even be considering losing weight. If you are struggling with body image, you're going about changing those attitudes the wrong way. If the scale says you're in an ideal weight, but you FEEL fat, then you don't need to change what the scale says, you need to change how you feel. You are in the appropriate weight range (actually you're underweight) so if you're concerned with "flabbiness" you need to focus less on "losing weight" and more on toning the weight you have. Remember, muscled weighs more then fat, so in working out-the number on the scale may go up, but the number in your jeans may go down! I know working out is the HARDEST part. Anyone can diet. But if you really want to look and feel better, do things the right way. You sound like you're starting down a path for destruction. Destroying your metabolism at a young age not only increases your risks for health conditions, but also is setting you up for being an over weight adult. If you're truly concerned about being healthy, RESEARCH. You should be eating AT LEAST 1500 calories a day with a sedentary lifestyle to survive, you need probably about 2000 or so to maintain. Use all the tools available to you on this website, that's what they're there for. Lastly, I'm obviously not a dermatologist, but I have oily skin as well and I can tell you a few things that work WONDERS for me (ohh, if only I could show you before and after pics, I could be on late night infomercials!): -Every day make a cup of green tea. After you drink the tea, use the bag and pat it on your clean, dry face. -Once a week, put an egg white into a bowl. Take a cotton ball and dip it into the egg, apply it to your clean, dry face. Wait until it starts to feel really tight and then rinse and pat dry. -Don't ever wipe your face, pat it dry, leaving the moisture on your face will stop your body from feeling too dry and trying to make up for it with oils -Eating healthier foods will clear up your complextion -THE BIG ONE: NEVER, EVER leave home or go to sleep without moisturizer. If you have a clean face when you leave home, your pores are open and waiting to take in dirt. Moisturizer seals your pores and dirt sits on top. You will IMMDIETLY see results from this. People with oily skin are always afraid to moisturize, you just need the RIGHT moisturizer and to use it regularly. |

Wow, it's shocking to see how many of us have naturally thin friends. I think that the hardest part for me. I'm not JUST envious of thier bodies, I'm envious of thier lifestyles. I'm envious that I have to work EXTREMELY hard to lose the weight, and will continue to have to work hard to keep it off. I too watch my friends each Taco Bell after binge drinking in the wee hours of the morning, while I sit in the back thinking about how much I have to work out to burn the light beer I drank. The only thing that keeps me going is thinking, after all this hard work during my weight loss, I can wear a bikini along side them. No more t-shirts over bathing suits, no more "slimming" one peices, no more humilation when I look at beach pictures and notice that I'm the same size as 2 of my friends. And I will tell you, when I'm thin, I will wear all the rocking clothes and look amazing in my new bikini! Just keep your eye on the prize and you'll feel much better. |

I'm in this same category as well! Age: 22 Height: 5'2 SW: 185 CW: 181 GW: 120-125 I have the same scheduling issues. I do the pre-planned container thing as well, my biggest problem is finding time for exercise. I just started my new lifestyle 3 days ago and I'm finding it much more of a challenge than expected. It's not the diet, it's not the exercise, it's getting to the gym. I tried thinking of other options like wii fit too, but before I started this lifestyle I did nothing but research for about a month to find out how to do things the right way. The problem is, now that I know more, I have more things to accomplish. It's ideal to work out in the morning, but I have to be at work at 8am, the gym opens at 7 and I need 1.5 hours of exercise. If I work out after work, I don't get the same benefits of the peak work out time, and therefore have to increase cardio to make up for my daily recommended carbs and fats. I was told by a personal trainer that there is an enzyme released after 20 minutes of increased heart rate that burns more calories, so ideally you want to work out longer after that 20 minutes. Most websites recommend 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week, but at 30 minutes, I would have just released the enzyme, whereas an hour will give me 40 minutes of serious fat burning. I def would like to be a buddy in this support system, I need all the help I can get!

Without question, you will GAIN weight from this "diet". You will not be able to give up all other foods forever, and when you do cheat, you will spike your insulin levels, go into starvation mode, and your body will start STORING FAT. So everything you eat on your "cheat" will just be absorbed and saved. If you do not eat your recommended caloric intake daily, you will start retaining water, you will start gaining weight. Also, you said that you are "normal weight" so why are you trying to lose? If your BMI is high, EXERCISE. Hope this helps, this plan will only hurt. |

2 words: Protein bars. These are great for on-the-go. You can eat in between classes. The only thing to remember is that protein bars are not "snack food" they are a meal and they're meant to be "used". The calories are high, the fat is high, and the carbs are high. They're meant to be used on a work out regemin. You should be eating 5 small meals a day, every 3 hours. If you start this, you don't have a chance to become hungry. As far as everyone else's posts. They're all correct. You're in the healthy weight range for your height. If you want to become thinner, focus on toning rather than strictly dieting. Dieting is 80% of weight loss, but if you don't have to lose weight, work on maintaining and toning for an overall thinner look. Lastly, here is what I have done to help with the dredded trip to the fridge. PRE-PACK snacks! Count out one serving size of almonds, and try to eat 2 peices of fruit. Sit down, watch some tv, and relax. You'll be focused on the tv, not so much your eating, and by the time you're program is over, you shouldn't be feeling hungry and you didnt' ruin your healthy day. Pre-planning is the absolute best solution to making/keeping your goal weight. |

Why is your goal weight 100 lbs? The healthy and doctor recommended weight for your height is 120-125lbs. This can seem much heigher than your goal but someone who just diets and is 120 lbs looks worlds different from someone who exercises and is toned at 120. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. |

I'm so glad this exists! I was a little concerned when I saw that it started in November, but it looks like there are new people joining all the time. I'm 22 years old, 181 lbs, and my goal weight is 120-125. I've been overweight my entire life, as is my entire family (both sides). My highest weight was around 230 when I was in 8th grade, then I dropped to about 140 in one summer hanging out with my skinny friends who don't eat and love to exercise. Once high school started I maintained the 140 for a while and then found a boy friend who said skinny was ugly and he liked that I was chubby. So I became comfortable, actually happy with myself for the first time in a long time, and I slowly started putting it back on. I have many challenges facing me in a diet/exercise routine in that I live in New Orleans, the food is awesome, it's around constantly, and everything is a reason to celebrate with lots of fatty, buttery, cheesy, fried foods. My only support system really is my boyfriend who doesn't have a weight problem, but wants to be healthy. My entire family is overweight and has no desire to lose weight at all. It's definetly the laid back New Orleans additude, this is how I am, deal with it. One of the hardest things was for me to get the ball rolling. I'm honestly not unhappy with myself. I could care less if I'm 180 the rest of my life. I think I carry it well and I have mastered girdles and clothes that hide it well. I was never disgusted enough to say "this is it, I'm losing the weight" the only thing that pushed me was that my dr said that women's metabolism slows in between age 23-25 and I'm nearing 23. I don't want to gain any weight. Of course I'd love to be thin and actually wear a bathing suit (something I haven't done since high school) and be able to shop in stores for normal sizes. Lastly, finding a diet/exercise plan has been ROUGH to say the least. I work and go to school so I never have a day off and I'm busy from 8-4:30 every day. I've been trying to eat 5 small meals a day, but as I'm sure you've noticed, healthy food almost always requires preparation. Chicken, fish, lean meats all have to be cooked. My ENTIRE life has started to revolve around getting thin. I have to wake up at 6 am to cook my 3 meals I take with my throughout the day, come home to cook/eat a pre workout meal, work out for 1.5 hours then home to cook/eat my post work out meal. It's becoming SO hard to stick to this when I feel like I have no life. I can't do anything at all until my workout/meals are finished or I won't do it at all, and then I can't stay out with all my friends because I have to wake up early to prep for the next day. Also, I don't know how much you guys are suffering with not drinking in college. There's no such thing as healthy liquor and living in a party town, I feel that I've given up all my freedom for this.
It makes me wonder, do I want it this badly?
P.S. Sorry this is sooooo long but I'm hoping for some suggestions and possibly similar struggles. |
