Both. Drinking a smoothie with protein gives your body something to burn. If you don't, you are just wasting your time in the gym. You should also eat something afterwards to help keep your metabolism pumping. As they say in Men's Health..smoothie before and smoothie after.

Weight Loss Hungry? Jun 20 2009

First off I would like to say thanks for posting the question.  You might want to increase your caloric intake to 1200. That is the bare minimum. I say this because if you eat less then that your body goes into starvation mode. Thus instead of losing weight, your body will hold onto the fat. It's a biological thing. Back in the times when humans were nomads, we didn't know when we would get our next meal. So, our body helps us to live longer by holding on to the fat. So, increase your caloric intake, add some exercise (at least 30 - 60 mins a day), and drink lots of water.

You also said that you feel hungry a lot. Once you increase to 1200 calories you should space out your meals. Eating 6-7 small meals a day is good for the body. Your body is constantly looking for fuel and if you give it healthy, portioned items then you will lose the weight. Here's one of my examples:

Breakfast: 3/4 cup Special K Blueberry with 1/2 cup milk

Snack 1: Grapes

Lunch: Wheat Pita Pizza with 2% mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, and turkey pepperoni

Snack 2: 100 calorie popcorn

Dinner: Spaghetti with tomato sauce

Snack 3: 1 cup watermelon

If you space it out, you won't feel as hungry because technically you will be eating all day. Just keep the portions small. Follow the serving size on the back of food packages. Etc, etc, etc, lol I have always wanted to say that.

I have no idea what the post was about but it seems to be about muscle. I would like to know the original question so I can offer some sound advice :)

It could be that you're not eating enough because you are burning so much. Have you been eating a healthy snack after your work out? Your body needs something to burn at least 30 to 40 minutes after you eat or your workout is for nothing.

The first problem that you have is you hate yourself. Losing weight isn't just a physcial issue but also both a mental and emotinal issue. Before you even tackle the issue of weight loss, you have to be comfortable with who you are now. Losing weight isn't something that is done for a short period of time. It is a lifestlye change. It's is forever. If you just want to lose weight to look pretty then you will gain it all back. Lose weight because you want to be healthy. Because you want to live to see your daughter's wedding day. Because you don't want to get diabetes and have to stick a needle in your arm every day. Because you don't want to be gasp and feel lightheaded every time you walk up the steps. If you do it for the wrong reasons, then you will fall back into old traps and gain every pound that you have lost back.

Now to answer your question. I pick up both a Men's Health and Women's Health magazine. Men's Health suprisingly has a lot more tips and suggestions that can be used among both sexes. Anyway, I love them because they offer exercise routines you can do home using items around the house, healthy recipes, updates on current health improvements, and so much more. Once you do find a routine, make a mix cd with some heartpumping music.

Also, exercise is not the only thing you have to do. You have to eat healthier: more fruits, more vegetables, and more water. It can become a family effort, that way you will have support.

But whatever you do, don't get down on yourself or you won't have the energy to accomplish your goal.
