why the hell would you want to lose weight before getting pregnant only for it to pile all back on when you do? what a waste of time and a blow to your efforts only to see the scale increase and all your hard work done prior to the pregnancy mean absolutely nothing. |

Eat a bunch of donuts, candy, burgers, pizza, etc. All the good stuff us people trying to actually drop weight have had to give up. Gaining isn't rocket science so why make it harder than it needs to be. |

| Weight Loss | I'm SO confused. Could someone help me figure everything out? | Aug 28 2009 04:27 (UTC) |

Your BOOBS are bigger which I would like to point out is almost every women's wish when they put on weight: to gain it in their boobs but instead it goes to less desirable places. Your CLOTHES fit the same. I put on 7-8 pounds and I cannot get my butt back into most of my jeans without having a problem with lovehandles and the pooch on my stomach. I went up just a dress size but am pissed. If you get smaller, your boobs will shrink and all your clothes won't fit anymore. I really don't see the point in this topic. You have no reason to complain at all. |

the sugar free jello puddings! 60 cals and the flavors are awesome! also chocolate protein zone bars. 190 cals each but i had a problem binging on these before so i won't buy em anymore. they are crazy good tho and have vitamins and minerals compared to a regular chocolate bar. |

Original Post by giasbash6260: Or you know it's lower than it should be for your age and height and won't make it obvious. i've seen your profile pics. you are very thin. this is a forum where advice is given and ideas exchanged. i personally do not judge but if I think your doing something that i know is unhealthy and know that a majority of people reading that same post would agree, then i'm going to tell you. 90-120 minutes of cardio daily is insane. granted your not trying to lose weight and eating to make up for it, but most people do not realize that excessive cardio is DAMAGING to the heart. the right amount will condition and make it stronger as well as drop pounds, but the amount your performing consistantly is unsafe. You may feel great being young and working out the way you do now, but as you get older it will catch up to you. And you will wish you took it slower and treated your body better. |

what fat??? your 104 pounds! i know your recovering from being anorexic but seriously your not fat and no you wont look bigger strength training. at your age you should be eating a minimum of 1500 anyway and your already at a deficit when u eat 1200-1400. do a half hour weights and half hour cardio if your that determined. also remember if u keep that mindset of wanting to be 96 pounds, your plan has eating disorder written all over it once again. i would suggest talking to a professional as well because your goals are drastic and i think your not quite into recovery if your still thinking your fat at the weight your at now. there is nothing wrong with 104 pounds with your stats. period. |

ok so you want to tone not lose weight then. so for that you nix the losing 8 pounds thing. you can stay at 104 and eat a healthy 1200-1400 cals plus a free day every week like you have been. what you want to do is more strength training. gaining muscle will BOOST your rmr because muscle is active tissue and 1 pound of muscle is equal to 1 pound of fat. along with the sensible eating plan and focusing more on building muscle, you will look leaner and stronger. and not gross at 96 pounds with flabby loose skin which is what I think will happen if you lost those 8 pounds. concentrate on muscles and you lose the inches and not mess up your rmr |

To all posters who go to the gym 5-7 days a week and do at least 1 hour of cardio: how many calories are you eating everyday and how long did it take you to lose the weight you wanted? I'm trying to get myself into the working out 6-7 days a week thing again since this is what helped me lose weight the first time around. I just walked on a treadmill for 60 minutes and lifted weights 10-15min afterwards. Though these days it will be much harder since I work. i do 4 10 hour shifts and don't leave until after 6 every night. |

| Weight Loss | morning binge | Aug 12 2009 17:44 (UTC) |

I have a binging problem as well and mind tends to start 3-4 days after starting my plan. I'm on day 3 from starting over yet again within the last month and so far I'm telling myself if I can make it to a week without going overboard, I can do this. I was craving peanut butter this morning and any kind of bread so I made some toast 140c and a tbsp of PB at 90 c. I already had 300c this morning of oatmeal and I try to stay at about 1000-1200 for an entire day. U picked a good time to binge I say. Now you have all day to work some of that off if you wanted to. Go to the gym and stay an extra half hour and you will be fine. As for eating, stick to lite things such as salad and fruit. Perhaps a grilled chicken breast for dinner after a good workout. Protein helps me A LOT after a binge to get rid of the bloating and water weight gain. Remember takes 3500 to equal pound of fat. You many have eaten a pound of food or more this morning but from what you said, I highly doubt it comes to 3500 worth of calories. |

Original Post by snowfence: Depends on what and in general bad idea. Oatmeal is healthy but binging on it not good. I binged on oatmeal nightly and put on 10 pounds this year. You can get fat on healthy food too. It's all about portions. I know how you feel I have a problem with binging too. I've been terrible sticking to my plan lately. Being good 3-4 days then afterwards I end up craving things and eating everything in sight. I've had to start over probably like 5-6 times within the last month because I'm stressed and eat a lot when stressed so I give in. I hope it's not binge eating disorder but makes me wonder. When I do binge I still think in a healthy foods mindset but continue to eat till I'm stuffed and its uncomfortable. Then I feel like crap the next day and it takes a good 2-3 days to feel better assuming I workout to get rid of the bloat and being regular to get rid of all the extra pounds the human body will carry in waste.

I'm already contemplating how good I will be when I go meet my fiance's family next month in Tennesse and North Carolina. From what I hear they are really big on BBQ and fried stuffs. I will be gone for about a week. No exercise at all. I'm hoping to drop at least a couple pounds before I go for the sake of fitting into the clothes I wanna wear but lately after being good 3-4 days I end up binging. I've had to start over probably like 5-6 times within the last month because I'm stressed and eat a lot when stressed so I give in. |

| Weight Loss | Birth Control Pills | Aug 10 2009 14:37 (UTC) |

You are very lucky to be able to to use the copper IUD without problems. I had one inserted last August and within two weeks it had to be taken out because I was in a lot of pain from my body rejecting it. I got a bad infection (my gynocologist did tests and she even said they didn't know what kind of bacteria was causing the infection.) I was on amoxocillin for a week and ended up being sick for like two months afterwards. $200 for nothing and I always wanted one. Oh well. As for the birth control, I am strongly against hormonal birth control. Yes it bugs the hell outta my fiance who has said countless times to me that it would not matter if I gained 50 pounds on it, but the way my self-esteem is now just trying to lose 10 pounds forget it. I would be misreable if I had to lose any more than that. Also and the biggest factor in my views on BC is that my grandma from my mother's side was on high dose birth control back in the 1970's. She ended up getting breast cancer and had a mastectomy done on her left breast several years after being put on it. Breast cancer is still around today and seems like it's rather getting worse than better (yes they have better ways of detecting it, but if your genetically prone or lifestyle habits count against you, you are at risk no matter what anyone says). And people diagnosed with it are getting younger when it was long believed to happen mid-life. SCARY! I see a BIG connection between breast cancer and birth control usage. Synthetic hormones our bodies don't know what to do with. So I ask myself: is it worth it to get cancer to avoid pregnancy? No thank you. |

Oh I had a fun day yesterday lol but am paying for it now because I feel like crap. Lets see I ate 1 cup oatmeal for breakfast with tea a huge banana and organic pop tart for mid morning lunch was mango chicken with black beans I was snacking on rosemary and olive oil flavored triscuts all afternoon (these are YUMMY and ADDICTIVE so watch out) dinner I was craving sweet potatoes so I bought the biggest canned sweet potatoes they had at the store, drained and rinsed all syrup off (hey I was good a little bit today lol). Then my fiance went to see his friend who's a cook at this mexican joint by our place and brought home the most delicious fajitas EVER! So then I proceeded to eat 3 small corn tortillas filled with the stuff then went to bed. Wait I had a miller lite in the afternoon too lol 100 calories so not bad. it's 5:33 am now and I just finished 1/2 cup oatmeal with a small protein shake. Gotta be at work in couple hours. Don't feel too great and am wanting a PB and J sandwich rite now O.O hopefully i wont get too lazy after i get off at 3 today to get to the gym. working out for a good hour after a binge like that helps alot with the bloating and general uncomfortableness. Again glad people here go through the same episodes of what I experience. I dislike myself greatly for not having the willpower to stick to what I wanna do for no more than a few days but I hope being in this group will inspire me since I have other strong women around me who understand :) |

| Foods | eating oatmeal everynite? | Aug 09 2009 01:25 (UTC) |

Original Post by spekgirl: its because carbs are the body's main source of energy. Unless you planned to work out late in the evening, eating a lot of carbs at night is not a good idea and its best to stick to higher protein choices. Personally I wouldn't eat oatmeal at night because I used to do it all the time and then bam I put on 8 pounds (i eat very healthy, just ate too much and stop working out for a while). But since you are trying to GAIN, I think oatmeal or any type of carbs is good whenever. Wish it was the reverse for me. That be awesome I would eat brownies for every single meal *sigh* |

| Weight Loss | Under 1200 a day bad? | Aug 08 2009 13:06 (UTC) |

I have two sugesstions: 1. My opinion, I think it is possible that at 1000 calories you are not starving your body because at your height and weight that might be where your calories need to be in order to keep everything working. BUT and this is a huge BUT, you need to have this confirmed by getting your RMR tested at a gym or by a nutritionist. I am 5'4 119-120 pounds working on getting down to at least 115 but biggest goal is 110. My RMR tested at 920 calories if I were to lay in bed all day. I also try exercise at least 5 days a week mostly cardio and staying at my heart rate the entire workout which I am for 60 mins per session. I learned a very valuable tip recently on here that I did not consider before and that was to make sure I was eating back what I was burning. Because if I went to the gym 2 hours after having a 300 calorie breakfast and burned about 500 doing cardio, my intake for the day is now -200. I eat 400 for lunch and now my intake is 200 calories so far for the day. See? I still have a 500 deficit just need to make it a priority that I eat the 1000 calories a day. 2. You can try cutting back on the fruit and grains. Eat most of your carbs in the morning and throughout the day focus on veggies and meat. Eating the carbs in morning gives you energy and time to burn it off all day long. Plus when you focus more on meat like grilled chicken, you will be fuller longer. You can eat 2 grilled chicken breasts for a total of about 440 calories with some seasoning on them. Hope this helps |

Original Post by flabbynomore: OMG you don't know how happy I am to read that you guys have problems with binges too. I binged last night and i'm very disappointed because I thought my method of CC was going to work well this time. What I was doing before is focus a lot on protein and only eat my carbs in the morning which was always oatmeal. This time I bought a lot of sugar free yogurt and jello to help with the chocolate and fruit cravings. It seems to be a pattern with me: I do good 2-3 days then on the forth BAM I eat everything in sight. Last night was grilled chicken and ricotta cheese, PB and Jelly that I was eating together rite of the jar with no measuring, 2 yogurts, and an entire container of my fiance's leftover sloppy joe mix lol. I'll take the day off today i guess but tomorrow i'm back on. Ugh I can't keep doing this to myself. |

I am SO bad when it comes to patience in weight loss. I always expect things to happen overnight like dropping these stubborn pounds I put on this year. Didn't gain overnight so I won't shrink overnight. Hopefully I will stop with expecting results fast and take it slow for once. |

I'd go with the sausage since there is not a lot of carbs. I try to lay off carbs at night and stick to my biggest carb meal of oatmeal in the morning. That way I have all day to burn it off. |

I'm game. I don't need to lose 30 pounds but I like that this is a support group for people around my age which is awesome. height: 5'4 current wt: 120 goal wt: 110 (although I would be extremely happy to be 115 again) cal intake: about 1000-1100 ( I had my RMR measured and I burn bout 1000 doing nothing because I'm small and in a healthy weight range already. Just notice my jeans are tighter, flabby arms, and no more abs :( amount of exercise: 60 minutes in gym hopefully 5 days a week. I know I can definitely do 3 days just my schedule is crazy for work so 5 times a week doesn't always happen. Combo of crosstrainer elliptical and treadmill. Both doing intervals. Still working on how to put in weight training. I even hired a personal trainer but am buying out of my contract because everything he's teaching me I already know so it makes no sense to pay someone when I know what I'm doing. Always wanted one so don't regret it, just not needed I guess :-). I estimate I burn bout 500 at the gym when I go 5 days a week so I have a deficit without starving my body. |

| Weight Loss | RMR Help | Jun 21 2009 03:52 (UTC) |

I spaced out posting a lot of helpful info this morning with my first post because I was in a hurry to get to work but I will be more detailed here:
So I’m 22, 5’4 and I weigh 120 pounds. My body fat percentage based on my Omron calculator is between 11.6 – 12.4. I don’t need to lose a whole lot of weight. I just have a pooch on my stomach now where my abs used to be, muffin top issue, and my thighs have never been my favorite feature.
I lost around 20 pounds in 2007 just by walking on treadmill for an hour and 15 minutes weights. I can’t remember specifically what I did diet wise and how much I ate. I do remember eating what ever just watching portions which included still eating regular family meals. Is it possible my calories were in fact over 1500 when I was bigger and that’s why I was successful the first time? It only took me bout 4-5 months to lose that much.
I work in a warehouse for around 8 hours a day 4 days a week. I rarely sit and am usually standing or walking around entering, picking, packing, and shipping orders. Each day I’m there I lift about 40+ pounds of totes/and or boxes filled with orders up and down a flight of stairs. I cannot workout until after I leave work but I aim for 30 minutes interval cardio and 30 minutes weights alternating each day with legs, arms, abs, etc, I have two rest day being Tuesday and Friday when I work late at my job.
I paid my nutritionist to use the Body Gem on me where I sat completely still breathing in and out of this thing in my mouth for 10 minutes. No exercise or food at least 4 hours prior to testing. My result was 920 calories burned in an entire day just being alive.
She used those results plus the Harris formula and factored in my level of activity BEFORE I talked with a trainer and reduced my exercise to 30 minutes cardio and 30 minutes weights 5 days a week. He said I was working out way too much and not properly resting my muscles. When I saw the nutritionist I was working out 7 days a week for an hour cardio and 30 minutes weights. She based my meal plan and calories on that. I found out I need to eat more calcium enriched foods and take vitamins.
I have no clue how many calories I burn at the gym but I know its around 275 for just the treadmill since I do interval training. It’s way more if I knew how much I burned weight training for the day.
I avoid anything white and processed (white flour, potatoes, bread, sugar, etc). I only eat 100% whole wheat bread with whole wheat flour being the main ingredient I look for. Lots of fruit and oatmeal. I like hummus and feta cheese. I’m also in love with the chocolate zone protein bars. They are 190c each and taste awesome and I like them because I crave chocolate daily.
I eat around 6 times a day with dinner being the biggest. I also have to snack on something before going to bed as well.
I’m working on my water intake because I am constantly dehydrated and its hard for me to just drink plain water. I can drop 3 pounds easily just by drinking more water and peeing all the time. I’m trying to drink lots of iced green tea with Stevia to help with the liquids.
Rely a lot on lean cuisines, smart ones, and healthy choice dinners. Mostly because I know exactly how many calories are in them to write in my journal and keep to my intake and because they taste very good with lots of variety, inexpensive, and I do not get bored of eating them.
I still don’t know what to think of the RMR thing. If I burn 920 doing nothing and lets say 300 at least at gym I’m burning 1200 a day. Eating 1300 I have 100 net calories left. My RMR is low because I am already at a healthy weight and I have muscle as well where as someone weighing 150 can easily have a RMR of 1500. |
