Without getting exact numbers, which I don't think you'll find, it does seem that the overwhelming majority of users here are female- roughly 9 out of 10 if I had to guess. Maybe we guys just aren't socially inclined to think in terms of our waistlines, which is a pity I think. Now that I can finally see a difference in my life, health, and self-perception, I don't intend to ever go back to my old ways.

I just keep to myself.. I'm sure the webmaster of the site could do a database search and tell you. good luck getting them to..

BTW Irishboy, I recognize your t_shirt, I grew up there...

Lol okay good to know :)

This thread has raised another question for me. My thighs sometimes chafe when I do long runs. Do guys' balls ever chafe? (sorry, curiosity got the better of me.)

Only when I run in my kilt...

Seriously, I wear "snugger" underwear to keep the boys from waving around. Keeps the chafing under control too.

And I did wear my kilt once to go golfing (sans undies). Bad idea, when walking the course on a hot day. There was lots of chafing, and a lot of pain after. Never again.

Serves you right for wearing a dress Tongue out

Foods Lunch for the past 2 days has been an 8 inch pizza and greek salad.. Is it so bad? Aug 12 2009

pizza is evil ! the cheese is where all the calories are, the bread/crust isn't so bad. if i had to guess i would say that 8inch pizza is 1,500 calories. once slice of peperoni pizza from a 14 inch pizza is about 390 calories. a 6 inch pizza hut personal pizza is 640 calories.

Fitness Treadmill vs outdoor running Aug 12 2009

I looked at the c25k website and did not like what they had for beginners....20 miles a week for training!!!!

I thought the C25K was in minutes?!? If you can run 3.1 miles on the treadmill, you will be fine. I would just TRY to run outside a few times before the race, and if you can swing it, once a week would really get you ready for the "feel" of running outside.

and yes, put your treadmill on at least a 1% incline to offset the effects of treadmill versus outdoors running.

It's 20 to 30 minutes 3 times per week, combination of walking and running. I don't think it adds up to 20 miles per week, maybe 6 miles combination walking/running per week.

It's important to realize it takes 3,500 calories over what you need in a day to gain a pound. you would have to pig out on brownies for two or three days to gain anything from it. maybe its time to stop focusing on the scale for awhile. try just eating your maintenance calories for awhile and not weighing yourself everyday. please remember a one time binge is not the end of the world, and most likely you wont even gain anything from it.

You don't need to go as drastic as 1,400 calories per day. enter your stats into a BMI calculator like this one

http://www.webmd.com/diet/calc-bmi-plus

you didn't mention how tall you were, but a 5' 9" inch male at 400 pounds needs around 4,000 calories per day to maintain that weight. so eating 3,000 calories per day you are going to lose weight. but use the calculator for a better idea of what you need. Walking is great exercise, don't worry about how much you can do at first. you will get better at it over time, congrats on deciding to get healthy for your family and your future, and good luck !

Um...Bring her lunch? As opposed to sending it to school with her? My kids are college age now, but as I recall, about the last thing they would have wanted at that age is for mom to show up at lunch every day. It's their social time. And even if they are not real sociable, I'm thinking that the only thing worse than having mom show up at lunch every day is for other kids to see that mom is showing up for lunch every day. Of course, your mileage may vary.

i think she meant "she'd like to bring her lunch"... as opposed to .... probably buying a lunch in the cafeteria? or going home at lunch... something along those lines

oh and i forgot, crystal light singles for a juice! 0 cals - 10 cals !

those lunchable things are packed with sodium, so not healthy for what you get out of it

Ha! we posted it at the same time
