Young Calorie Counters does anybody else have a flabby stomach like this? Jun 30 2009

See that line? most girls i've seen don't have that, even if they have a flabby stomach.

what i can't tell is if it's skin or fat. it looks to me like the gut of an overweight person, except that i'm 116-118 pounds.

YES YES and YES.

I'm between 116- 118, and I don't believe I would be so concerned with my weight if it wasn't for my stomach. I'm not sure if it's fat... I kinda yo-yo on what I eat. (not like yo-yo dieting, I just eat less some weeks, than more others.) I drink plently of water though.

Recently, I've been cutting out extra sugar and doing a few toning exersises, and it's been giving me more of the curvy/lean muscle look to that area. hah

Hope this helps some!

That sounds yummy! Okay, I confess . . . I actually ENJOY veggies.

Aha. I've been mistaken for a vegetarian more than once :)

And I LOVE steamed broccoli. Lemon juice is like an alternative to olive oil for me. But if olive oil wasn't so high cal, I would probably use it more often.

Thanks for the ideas...anyone have any squash ones? We have a bunch just sitting in the fridge.

Hey, thanks Clint. No, I don't have a goal. I'm at the point where I pretty much want to stay where I'm at. I don't think I could lose that much more weight. I think I'm at the point where I am losing fat and gaining muscle. I just had a snack. cottage cheese with some cashews and a nectarine...never had a nectarine before.lol.

You're fifteen. Your body is maturing and that's what happens when you are healthy.

I mean no offense, and it is good that you are concerened with being healthy...just make sure that it is healthy, not fitting a perfect image when your body is still changing.

I once voiced concerns about my weight to an Egyptian guy-friend of mine, and he said, "We have a saying, that 'all women look the same in the dark.'"

I had to laugh.  I've been much more accepting of my body, no matter what stage it's at, ever since.

 Hahah so true. Cheers.

I have a small bone structure. (found using the 'wrap hand around wrist' test, and the fact that I just know I have one)

So I AM ten pounds overweight even if my BMI says otherwise...

Here goes: I'm 5'3, 118 pounds, US pants size 2-4, tops I am in-between a small and medium. Cross between an hourglass and apple.

Sounds nice, but I'm carrying a-little-more-than-healthy weight around.

It would be awesome if anyone here was my twin in measurements!

Weight Loss Need Help Controlling Binge Eating! Jun 24 2009

Original Post by fooledbyfaith:

Ok, i used to be a very healthy eater. Cleanest eater ever. I was 5'4, 115 pounds...very happy. Anyway, I move back home and i go crazy with junk food. I cant even explain it. I didn't want it yet i craved it. It was all i could think about. Id find any excuse to get out of the house to buy it. So i gain around 40 pounds. And i blame it on the fact that for 2 years i deprived myself so much that i just went food crazy. Im finally getting over it but having to lose this weight all over again is a terrible burden and just frustrating. Anyway, my first piece of advice to write down your goals and keep them in sight. I also have a little mantra i repeat like...I want to be skinny, or Make the sacrifices to reap the rewards. And when i see a note that says 5/6 jeans it makes me want to fit into them even more. I have also started to write when i want to binge. Just yesterday I wrote a whole paragraph of the foods i wanted to eat and then below it I wrote a paragraph of the goals i want to accomplish. I want to be healthy, proud of my body and be comfortable throwing whatever on and going out the door. And its then that things come back into perspective and I dont want the food anymore. Also set a rule of no food after dinner and stick to it!!!Its sad to let food control your life. And its totally not worth it. We have the brains, not the food. So why does it always win? Well dont let it anymore. Just be strong

Thank you so much for writing this.

I'm 10 pounds over my ideal weight, and I just needed a kick to get me going.

I know this is kind've strange, but your reply helped me get into focus :))

Weight Loss At the rate that I'm going... Jun 24 2009

Congratulations :)

And about it balancing out...I'm not completely sure what you mean, but I'll try to give you an answer.

Keeping a routine like that is healthy, but also vigorous. I don't know what your weight is, or how much more you were planning on losing, or if your goal is gaining muscle and losing fat, but I do know that the only way you will reach a place where you are maintaining a specific weight is when the number of calories you eat equal the number you burn. (but you probably already knew this...)

Right now it sounds like you are burning more than taking in, so at this rate you will keep losing.

So once you reach a weight or fitness level your happy with, loosen up a little. A little. By this I mean you can maintain the weight by bumping up your calorie intake slightly, OR cutting back on the exercise. Remember, once you reach your goal, you can get out of lose-weight-diet mode, and just live a healthy life.

I know this was realllllllllly long, but hopefully helpful?

Have you ever heard of anything called the French woman's diet?

It's not like an actual diet plan though, it's a lifestyle. For example, start thinking of food as a natural part of your life that you share with your friends and family. Eat just the right portion, enjoy the cake but eat it slowly...you wind up getting MUCH more satisfaction out of everything, and while staying thin.

One of the phrases from the book is "French women think about good things to eat; American women typically worry about bad things to eat".

I just found this so interesting because it shows how corrupted the relationship many people have with food is, and how we can follow the lead of other's who don't have a society stuffed with Dunkin Donuts advertisements.

There's no one easy answer for this, and different things work for different people. (I'll just get to some advice now. hah.)

1. Try separating your food from his. Sure you have to share the same fridge, but just make a clear line down the middle. The fault in this is that it requires self-control...but what doesn't. It might be somewhat of a help to see clearly the 'good' and the 'bad'.

2. Keep frozen yogurt or something crave-worthy. So if you unfortunatley are forced to watch him eat a bowl of ice-cream, you can grab your frozen yogurt. (I know this is weird, but try pretending that he is eating something healthy like you are...)

3. I know screaming at them to stop buying tempting junk is out of the question, so instead, maybe try introducing them to some of your stuff.
