It just depends on how much you move and the amount of activity that's in your daily routine. I sit in an office all day and in order to lose weight I have to go down to 1200 cals/day and excersise 5 days/week. I'm sure that you are using way more energy in school and with working out so much that 1400-1600 is fine, if not under the limit, to maintain your current weight. I try and eat around 1300-1400 on days that I know I'm going to work out hard and I'll still lose even though I eat a bit more sometimes. This website is great for making sure you're getting enough protien and fat in those 1400-1600 cals/day too, it's not just counting the calories that's important because 1200 cals of nutrient deficient foods isn't as helpful to your body as 1200 cals of good, nutritious foods. 50-60% of your cals should be carbs from fruits, vegetables and whole grains. 25% of those cals should be from healthy fats like avacados, extra virgin olive oil and peanut butter. 25% of those cals should be from protein that is lean like chicken or tofu or fish. And don't forget to let your body have at least one day of active rest to repair and replenish itself, which is basically making sure you're not just laying on the couch all day on your day off!! As young as you are you can easily sustain on 1400-1600, preferably more, cals/day. Food is fuel for your brain and your body!!! |

I'm working with a trainer right now and what we do is a 10min fast paced walk on the treadmill, then weights and abs then 20 min of cardio. The weights routine is basically 4-5 machines of mostly either upper body or lower body. We start with the first machine and do all that are planned for that day then we get my heart rate by doing a minute of jumping jacks or something like that then we do the weight routine once more, then the cardio. I have also been keeping my calories down at about 1200-1400/day (I sit in front of a computer all day so I don't really need much more in order to lose weight) with 50% of those calories being carbs and 25% fat and 25% protien. I've lost 10lbs of fat in the last 6 weeks and am still losing. I work with the trainer 2/week, do yoga 2/week and a cardio class once/week. It seems to be working well for me?....good luck!!! |

Judging by your profile pic you're cute?....What the hell kind of man would say something like that, is he bald and fat and harry because he sounds like he might be! Lol! This country is full of magazines of women who have fake boobs and no waiste line yet the majority of our country actually looks quite the opposite! I sometimes find myself feeling insecure when I compare myself to the women in those magazines and videos my boyfriend watches...it's hard not to. You just have to remember that everyone is different for good reasons and what you look like doesn't define who you are.
For your own personal satisfaction, I think you should get in shape to feel better physically and mentally and then dump his ass!!!! There are plenty of appreciative men out there that would consider themselves lucky to have you!!!! |

Thanks for the answers! I was really hoping someone would tell me that my efforts were not being wasted! I actually work out 5 days a week, I lift with my trainer twice a week, do a cardio class once a week and do yoga twice a week and if I'm feeling extra motivated I'll do a body sculpt class one day too! I think I have a pretty well rounded routine and am eating 1300cals/day with 85 grams of protien in there somewhere! I'm hoping to be swimsuit ready and have shed the winter banana bread weight but July! Thanks again! Off to yoga!!! |

I try and break my meals into 3 300 cal meals with 3 100 cal snacks! I sometimes go over but I don't worry too much about it! |

I did it! It was the hardest diet I've ever done!!!! It was bland, flavorless food and not much of it! It had me eating alot of herbs and psyllium and cranberry juice and the taste of flax seed oil still grosses me out! I lost weight on it though but not as much as I expected since it was torture! |

Using stevia is a life-saver for me! I'm a sugar freak and when I need a sugar fix I go for the plain yogurt or cottage cheese with a bit of stevia and fresh fruit! I use stevia in almost everything that needs to be sweetened and I save calories and carbs! |

Despite all of the useful posts, the "poopy-tea" (as my mom and I refer to it) experiment came quickly to a halt as both of us would rather go on a cracker and water diet to lose weight than deal with abdominal cramping and diarhea! I tried the tea just to see if I would have the same reaction to it and it was like having a very bad flu bug, all day!!! It was in a green box and she got it from the Asian store near her house and we won't be buying anymore of it! Haha!!! |

I want to eventually work up to heavier weights and possibly start lifting more seriously to build some muscle tone. I just figured I should start slow and since I've been doing the body sculpt/cardio classes and the yoga I've seen a definate increase in my strength and yoga skills! I just need to get with a trainer now and have them show me what type of heavier lifting I could do to increase muscle mass and drop the cellulite grossness, now that I've worked on my stamina a bit, so I look smokin in my bikini this year!!! My goal is to lose 10lbs without losing muscle and actually gaining muscle! |

So, I use 3-10lb wieghts during my body sculpting class but we use a slow to medium pace followed by a pause in the middle, holding the weights in some tortuous position , then back to slow to medium paced reps until my arms are about to fall off! Is that not effective either?....I have a hard time believing that smaller weights are useless?...I'm usually sore by the time I get home and I would consider myself moderately athletic, moreso than most office workers at age 33. |

You sound like you're doing great so far!....I stick to %50-%60 carbs, %25-20 protein and %25-20 fat. Your body needs good fats, monounsaturated fats, that are in things like nuts and avacados. You also need carbs for energy and I try and keep my protien around 75 grams because you don't want to overload your kidneys with protein, most females with a medium frame only need around 75-80 grams of protein in order to be healthy. Combined with excersise 3-4 times a week for at least 30min each time, you should be able to lose quite a bit by summer!...Excersise is key though, if you don't excersise you will lose muscle tone and that kind of defeats the purpose of losing weight if you're just gona look smaller but flabby!....I did that once and was just as unhappy! |

I go to yoga at my gym 3x/week and there's a guy in my class that is awsome at yoga!...he makes me look like some lazy couch potato and I'm actually not that bad!....Everyone that I've brought to yoga (which are all girls) have come out of class with a new perspective on yoga, it's NOT just layin around doin stretches!!!!....it'll kick your ass if you practice good form and challenge yourself so good for you for trying something new!!!! | |||

| I just try and avoid salt and drink alot of water. As for the constipation you may need to just eat more soluble fiber such as potatos and white breads and regular semolina pasta and less whole wheat (I know white foods are supposed to be a dieting no-no but it is also my opinion that that is just a bunch of nonsense), research the suluble versus insoluble fiber information because I used to get constipated and now I don't since I canged my diet and I'm still able to eat healthy!! | |||

| This is CRAZY! It totally comes out more moist than using eggs and oil!! I used cherry flovored cake mix with diet cherry vanilla coke and it was awsome! I thought the color of the soda and the pink cake would conflict but it didn't make a difference in the color of the finished cake at all...everyone thought I was a nut for baking it this way until they tasted it!!! | |||

| From what I've read eating 3 medium meals (300-500 calories each) plus a healthy snack in between each and a snack in the evening is what keeps your blood sugar in check which is what keeps your body from storing fat. Eating only 2 meals per day increases your blood sugar because you are starving your body. Eat smaller portions more often throughout the day and excersise regularly and you'll feel better and lose weight! Sounds like you have the drive so keep going!! :) | |||
